5 out of 5 eggsQuestion on Size Drive Supported

Pros: Powered fans keeps drive cool; USB 3.0 is exceptionally speedy for image backups (a relief after USB 2.0); easily combine your favorite HDD with this for external storage.

Cons: In an unreasonably dusty environment, one of my fans slowed and eventually stopped. Nothing wrong with the fans, just grit. Replacement fans are available on the open market, but trying to put them in the enclosure just about destroyed the electronics.

Other Thoughts: Someone asked if this would support a 3TB drive in a single volume. Couldn't use the Q&A, so: my understanding is that you can't get past a 3TB drive not physically fitting into this case. This from the Thermaltake web site in June 2014: :Supports for all 3.5” SATA I, II, and 6G Hard Drives up to 2TB."
So, if you are looking for 3TB, I'd ask some hard questions first, right from Thermaltake.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Product

Pros: -Very Fast a reliable product.
-Writing at 35 mo/sec.
-Nice and beautifull device.

Cons: When you put a hardrive inside, you need to be very carefull because the ''Clips'' are fragile and do not fit perfectly. You have to force them...

Other Thoughts: If you want to change often the hardrive inside, there is a lot of chance of breaking the clips.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked then it stopped being recognized by windows

Pros: Simple install.
Sleek design.
USB 3.0 with decent speeds.
Fans.

Cons: It broke. I have it plugged in and no matter what drive i put in, it doesnt seem to be recognized by windows due to a 'malfunction.' Def gonna send it back and get something better. Not worth the hassle to have it work for a week.

Other Thoughts: Would have been nice if it was NOT a hex key screw every time you wanted to swap out a drive. Would be nice with some thumb screws. And the internal installation of the harddrive was just nonsense.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsConstant running back-up.

Pros: Looks like a one toothed robot from the fan side.
Looks sleek and sexy.
Mainly look at the description, it covers most of this. It is perfect for what I need. Running a 24/7/365 backup for a work computer that needs to run 24/7/365. No noise what-so-ever from the fans. Easy to clean and maintain. Idiot proof when installing/removing HDDs.

+ 3.0 USB
+ SATA I.II.II
+ Fast Transfer
+ Switch so you can turn off the blue LED for the fans.
+ Power adapter. I have had rotten luck with connection powered externals.
+ 2.5/3.5 secure connection. Tried a number of both size HDD when a work external had failed. (The plastic connection inside is strong, just take a little more care removing the drive. Breaking this is user fault.)

Look this thing has been on for 3 months straight. No hiccups.

Cons: - Only comes in blue LED
I have purchased two (2) red LED fans to replace the fans inside this unit. I have not looked into it further as the item is still not available and I don't want to halt my current one. I'll post with results.

- Looks like a one toothed robot from the fan side. I like that personally.
- If you rush, you do have a chance of breaking the plastic studs for securing the HDD.
Get a drill,
Drill a hole in place of missing stud.
Replace with a long drive screw. (Can't link but you can find them, do some internetin')

- White?
- Why do you guys at TT love the color blue for LEDs so much?

Other Thoughts: Bring these back newegg. I need 2 more.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: None

Cons: One of the worst external hard drive cases I have ever seen. Plastic tabs to hold the hard drive in place. Arrived with one of this broken. RMA for refund.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this product.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: Wasy to install HD in; Excellent ventilation with two fans sucking into the underside of the HD and expelling out the bottom; responsive via either USB or eSATA; able to accept me WD EADS and EARS Green 1 and 2 Tb HD; solidly constructed, and aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I used for about 6 months to do daily backups on my WHS2011 operatic system drive and client backups. Now I'm using it as the storage drive for my gaming rig because I'm maxed out on internal storage with game hard drives. Yes, the lights are bright on the fans...you can turn them off.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT Work with WD 3TB Black

Pros: - Decent stand for vertical placement,
- 2 LED-lit fans for cool operation,
- Quiet operation,
- USB 3.0 port for fast file transfers.

Cons: - DOES NOT WORK WITH WD 3TB Blacks!

Other Thoughts: Totally disgusted that this thing does NOT work with 3 TB WD Black drives, let alone anything above that capacity. I guess I gotta get a new enclosure to house this drive.

Sheesh!

2 out of 5 eggsdoes not support 2TB WD WD20EADS green HD

Pros: there's a switch to turn off the blue LED lights

Cons: It can handle a 1TB WD green hard drive without a problem, but a 2TB WD20EADS won't be recognized.

apathetic support, download of the PDF manual off the thermaltake site is a 404 link

Other Thoughts: i don't even know why i'm giving this 2 stars

4 out of 5 eggsWhy a size limitation on enclosure???

Pros: Highly interrested in buying this enclosure to be used to connect an internal hard drive to a Cisco Router for DLNA purposes.

Cons: But why a size limitation on a simple enclosure?! I do not understand...
I'm trying to use a Seagate 4TB drive formatted in GPT that works just fine under Windows 7 and 8.
Can somebody please explain why it "shouldn't" work?!

Other Thoughts: Apart from that, this is one sexy enclosure... if the LED last a while :P
