1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks powerful

Cons: Worked for about a week then keeps shutting off. Threw the box out on the second day so new egg won't replace for me. Sad knowing I spent 250 for it and it stopped working so soon. Replaced it with my 1300 watt psu from my titan I7 sandy bridge e build and had no problems with the computer. This will be the last thermalake I buy. Now I have to wait for another ps

Other Thoughts: Thanks new egg!

3 out of 5 eggsGood price, has flaws though

Pros: it's nice and quiet when not under heavy load.
80 plus platinum

Cons: 18 guage cable... really...? so the power cable supplied with this psu is rated at 10 amps, the psu is rated at a max of 13 amps... so at full load, the cable could overheat/burn up... what is thermaltake thinking supplying a power cable too small for the amps the psu could potentionally pull... this psu should've come with a 16 guage cable minimum. this issue has also be acknowelded in some review sites of this psu as well. my older cooler master had a 14a pull and it came with a 14 guage wire, at least those guys know what they are doing and aren't cutting corners that could possibly result in a fire hazzard.

Those little status led lights are a nice concept, as long as you have a case that mounts the psu up top, if you have one mounted at the bottom then you have to flip the psu over and then no more status led lights for you as it's now facing the back of the case. They should've thought of that and placed status led's on both sides of the psu and not just one side...

8 & 24 pin cable lengths... just too short for proper cable management, especially, again, for bottom mounted psu's. luckily my cooler master psu also came with extra extension cables for the 8pin cable. i just used those on this psu in order to make the cables reach far enough to plug them into the motherboard.

Cables are pretty stiff, makes it harder to manipulate for good cable management.

Other Thoughts: This psu was replaceing a 1000w cooler master psu that shorted out when my cpu water cooler burst and drained all the raidiator fluid straight down into my psu (bottom mounted psu). RIP cooler master, you will be missed.

-1 point for the 18 guage cable.
-1 pont for the short cable lengths.
-1/2 point for the cable stiffness
-1/2 point for the status led's.
+1 point for quietness when not under heavy loads

with the exception of the supplied power cable, which is unforgivable, the cons for this psu isn't too bad and is completely manageable, although there is plenty of room for improvements.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Most power supplies at this price and wattage are gold certified and take 15amps while this one is platinum and takes 13 amps, which was huge for me as with the way my house is wired I needed to watch my amperage.

Cons: I don't mind having a 24pin and 8pin you can't remove, but having two 8 pins I couldn't remove was annoying. Also, the cables could have been longer, especially the 8 pin to the motherboard. I was probably 4 or 5 inches short of running it behind my case (Rosewill Thor V2), which is not a huge case by any means. I had to run it in front of my parts to plug it in, which forced me to have my heatsink sit in an undesired position. Even like that I was barely able to get it to reach the plug in and the cable is now stretched over my gtx 680classified. Honestly, what build did they intend this power supply for?

Also, the two 8 pin PCI-E power cords are on the same rail, and there is a set of 6+2 pins on the same rail. I was expecting 8 separate rails. I guess I should have looked closer at the picture of the back of it, but usually PCI-E power connectors are one per rail.

Other Thoughts: I ordered an 8 pin motherboard power extender for $4.50. To some it may not seem like a huge deal, but when I spend this amount of money on a power supply I shouldn't have to worry about if the cables will reach.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid PSU!

Pros: - 80 Plus Platinum rating
- dual 12v rails
- modular (not fully modular however but isn't a con)
- 1275 watts
- PSU status monitor with 3-mode LED (standby / PG signal / temperature)
- High quality 105°C Japanese capacitors
- Simple Thermaltake bag to keep all your modular cables in
- ETC., ETC.

- Everything mentioned for under $300 is a win if you are like me and like heavy-duty devices/units!

Cons: These are not cons about the unit but just things to mention:

- this PSU is HEAVY and HUGE, very long compared to your "lighter" PSUs - but this is expected!
- not fully modular, would have been nice if it was but the typical required wires (24 pin, 6 and 4 mobo pins - I'll call them) are already part of the unit
- The cables are stiff! Read "other thoughts" about why I mention this

Other Thoughts: While plus platinum rated PSU may be overkill for me (I don't plan to put this under heavy load) I did like all other characteristics of this unit (note the positives!) - 1275 watts with high quality parts and plus platinum rating for under $300 was a win for me - especially since when building gaming rigs I build with future-proofing in mind.

In regard to stiff cables, I have the EVGA GTX 680 SC Signature 2 and it was very difficult to conform the pins to there proper alignment AND without the cable-bend jutting-out ~4 inches as I don't have the chassis clearance for this so I had to bend and zip-tie the cable down without ruining/damaging the cable OR the pin connectors on the card (which in itself is not the solid to the vid card). This is not a con, just letting yous know.
