1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute garbage.

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: It worked fine, till it died.

Cons: After a year of moderate use, it died. Don't waste your money on this garbage, especially at this price (I bought it for $20). If you're building a budget system, get a CX430v2.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We can replace it through warranty service. Please contact support team for RMA instructions.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressed

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Specifications matched item exactly
Well packaged and organized wires
Connectors are labeled for what they are intended for
Little noise while in operation

Cons: Doesn't allow for universal/upside down installation (I would expect a case to make the accommodation for this rather than a PSU so no fault here)
Only the 20+4 Pin is MolXed;
Wire color is not very attractive
CPU connector (4+4) was already connected and caused a brief bit of confusion

Other Thoughts: Is now my preferred Power supply for this power level. Highly recommend

5 out of 5 eggsGood unit for the price

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Inexpensive
Plenty of SATA and IDE ports
Quiet
Good paint job

Cons: lower energy efficiency at load (known when purchasing)
undisclosed combined 12v rating

Other Thoughts: I've bought multiples of these units with the expectation to power 300w max builds, which they do phenomenally. Don't expect this to power a mission critical server farm for 24/7 operation at max load, that's unrealistic and a better unit should be purchased.

5 out of 5 eggsA cheap power supply.

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Has been working well for almost 2 months now. It was extremely cheap with the mail in rebate. It is quiet. So far I can't understand the bad reviews. It would seem that if there was a problem with this line of power supplies, Thermaltake has taken corrective action.

Cons: It feels cheap, much lighter than an old Antec 430W I was handling recently. So far, that has had no affect on performance.

Other Thoughts: Put in in an older system my wife uses for college work. The power supply in it was not rated high enough for use with a video card.

2 out of 5 eggsPower supplies says it's "whisper quiet" WRONG!!!!

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Newegg is awesome!!! Super fast shipping and item worked right out of the box.

Cons: The description says it is whisper quiet. It is actually quite loud.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Maybe noise is cause by defective cooling fan. We will replace it through warranty service. Please contact customer service team for RMA instructions.

2 out of 5 eggsUnfortunate, please avoid

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: I have 2 units and both lasted over a year. (only reason for 2 stars)
Cheap now (it costed twice as much when I bought them)
nothing else.

Cons: 1.) NOT continuous!!!!! (Continuous power is the industry's standard and tests are regulated. This is peak power at 500w no standards or regulations!!!)

2.) No specified combine power on the +12v rails!!! (The 2 +12v rails are 17A and 18A each, but nothing is said about the combined total power to the 12v rails. And NO, you cannot just add the two together. REMEMBER, the +12v is what powers your CPU, GPU, and motherboard. Thus, it is VERY IMPORTANT how much combined power is feeding to you computer.)

3.) Does not use high quality Japanese capacitors (RubyCon, Chemi-Con... etc). These are the capacitors that good PSU OEM uses.

4.) Made by Channel Well Technology, they can be decent OEM at times but not in this case. When shopping for PSUs, OEMs are more of a quality indicator than brands.

5.) A tier 5 PSU. Avoid at all cost.

Other Thoughts: I didn't know better when made the purchase but now I do. I have replaced them since then, with a XFX (Seasonic based unit) and a EVGA 750 B2 (Superflower based unit). Now I overclocked both CPUs.

POWER SUPPLIES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR SYSTEM, SO DON'T CHEAP OUT!

Do your research and find out the actual manufacturer!!!! Read professional reviews like jonnyguru and tech power up.

You get what you pay for. In my case, I thought it was dishonest of them to sell these at higher price brackets.

Good luck, folks!

3 out of 5 eggsWhy Need Rebate?

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Don't know yet

Cons: Whenever I see a rebate on a certain item, I will stop further looking on the product. It wastes unnecessary time to print, fill in, cutting labels, mail and wait for the rebate mail. It doesn't pay!!

Other Thoughts: Manufacturers: please offer an instant reduce price to save everybody's time.

3 out of 5 eggs2 years only?

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: When it runs, it runs great.

Cons: Bought it and installed 10/2013 started having issues with it 10/15. Nearly 2 years on the nose.

It "powers up" when under a PSU tester, however when under a load it seems to be a 50/50 shot if it will power up or not.

Confirmed no issues with mainboard or drives as these are working fine with my backup PSU.

Looking around, I see that many people seem to be reporting issues after 2 years with various thermaltake PSUs, is this a manufacturer problem?

5 out of 5 eggsThermaltake, inexpensive and GOOD!

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: This is one reliable PSU, backwards compatible with older systems, those PSU not capable of running Haswell properly. By this I mean, my PC P&C Silencer 750 made a hissing sound when I put it in my new Haswell system but the Thermaltake which was meant for the old system that the Silencer was powering ran it w/o a problem while the Silencer was not compatible with Haswell.
I completely forgot about the ATX12V revisions. So, the Thermaltake has been very reliable now for almost 4 weeks in a row, powering a C2Q Q6600, 4GB DDR2, 1x 600GB HDD, optical drive, Audigy Gamer, USB 3.0 PCIex1 card and a power hungry 9800 GTX slightly overclocked (from BFG).

I've used the TR2 Thermaltake for my back up systems since the 430W and have never had an issues with them, so I highly recommend them for those systems that you just don't want to get rid of them yet. Although for high-end or new hardware, I always tend to go with those with superb reviews, reviews where they've been tested massively.

Even though this says SLI and CXF ready, it is but for cards not requiring two power connectors each. My 9800 GTX pretty much took the two available PCI-Ex power connectors.

I'm really not a big fan of dual or multi x12V rails, but in this case the price and brand from previous experience decided my choice of PSU.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsbarely worked

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Good RMA by Theramltake- faulty PS was replaced at no cost and shipping was paid by theramaltake process was painless and fast

Nice to see a company stand by there product

The replacement is on year 2+ and rock solid.

Cons: First one worked fine in my dads computer for a month. then he added a 6770 video card and random system shutdowns and failures to start occurred. Troubleshooting revealed PS was bad. Thermaltake replaced it with no problems, see pros

Other Thoughts: would buy again due to good customer support and the second one is excellent i guess i just got the one that slipped thru the crack
