2 out of 5 eggsWas great, but failed after 8 months

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V SLI CrossFire Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Simple install, looks okay, worked flawlessly until...

Cons: ... It didn't. 8 months and I've been getting random restarts for the last couple weeks, sometimes several in one day.
The cables are all about as flexible as rubber hoses

Other Thoughts: Initially was a great deal and worked perfectly, but the last couple weeks it's been restarting my computer randomly and causing me huge problems. I gave it two eggs because it didn't immediately turn my system into a bonfire and because it lasted the better part of a year.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
The TR-700 is backed by a 5 year warranty. Please contact Customer Service to receive RMA instructions.

2 out of 5 eggsBurning Smell

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V SLI CrossFire Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Cheap, got a rebate, still working.

Cons: Burning smell every time I use it. No, nothing is actually on fire. This is that 'hot electronics' smell, and its actually more than a bit bothersome. Is it failing?

Other Thoughts: I always assumed the smell would go away with use, but it hasn't yet (8 months). Given the reputation this PS has for dying, I'm planning on replacing it.

5 out of 5 eggsbeware of mail in rebates!

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V SLI CrossFire Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: good stable power for my gaming pc

Cons: thermaltake robs me of my 15$ mail in rebate
why? ...they lied...

Never buying Thermaltake again, just on principal

Other Thoughts: I bought all my parts for a new gaming rig on newegg and a few of the parts had mail in rebates... I followed all the instructions for all rebates carefully and sent in all the proof every company asked for. Waited about 2 months and get all my rebate checks, EXCEPT Thermaltake's.

They write me that I did not send enough proof and want packing slip or another invoice even If the original invoice was already in my MiR application ?!? They generously offer "a second chance" at the rebate... but i'm not going to waste another 1$ worth of time and stamps to get a 15$ rebate. I will never trust Thermaltake "sales" again. Quality of the PSU seems good but they aren't the only company that make good PSUs... Too bad for Thermaltake; I buy many PC parts in a year (I do alot of repair work) and Thermaltake products will never be on my shopping list again.

3 out of 5 eggsRuns Boots Bad Test

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V SLI CrossFire Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Cheap 700w
4 8+2pin PCI
Quiet(for now)
Runs my system

Cons: Low voltages on test but above tolerance.
My test read back a PG delay error. To slow I'm guess.

Other Thoughts: I will run this until I need an over clock. Might be a few days. It does boot my system though and runs fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Please contact Customer Service if you require assistance. We can also have the PSU replaced through warranty service if it is determined to be defective.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 11 months.

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V SLI CrossFire Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: None.

Cons: Died after 11 months. RMAd to thermaltake. They sent me back the same one still broken. My system works fine with a 10 year old 400w backup power supply. The fan is very loud compared to other power supplies I have used.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Please contact Customer Service regarding the defective PSU and we will have another unit sent to you. If you can provide the representative with your original RMA number, they will have a reference and can provide better support.

1 out of 5 eggs2 in a row with sam problem

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V SLI CrossFire Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: none

Cons: I've received 2 of these and both are providing only 2 volts on the "power good" or "power ok" pin. This should be 5 volts. If the voltage isn't high enough the motherboard will not let the power supply turn on as it thinks the power supply has failed it's POST.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We apologize about any inconveniences the two defective PSU may have caused. Please RMA the PSU directly with Thermaltake and we can test to ensure you receive a fully functional unit. Please contact Customer Service who will provide RMA instructions.
