1 out of 5 eggsMB & CPU all Toast

Pros: It delivered power for a few months.

Cons: It was periodically shutting down my computer for no apparent reason. Finally, I heard sparking sounds and smelled burning electronics.

Power Supply failed and took the board and components with it.

Other Thoughts: I've been building systems since 1986. I purchased this to power my desk top computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply

Pros: VERY quiet! i turned it on and didnt even notice it. its like turning on a hybrid car for your first time and thinking to yourself... is this really on?

i will also give it points for the looks.
Thermaltake has a been a choice item of mine for quite sometime and the Toughpower DPS 850W strengthens my trust in their products

also has a 7 year warranty. you don't slap a 7 year warranty on something unless you know it wont break or if it does its only because theres a true defect

Cons: nothing to nit pick from my perspective.

Other Thoughts: i have this bad boy used with a

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice psu

Pros: stable running modular psu with many features, aesthetically pleasing as well, got this psu to go with the black silver and gold theme in my rig, didnt expect to be surprised with how easy it is to perform cable management with this modular psu, very easy to set up. comes with plenty of necessary and extra cables that come in a separate carrying bag, monitoring software is complete with lots features. powers my 780ti, 4770k rig with no issues at all at maximum load. may be even be a bit of an overkill for my setup. but i like it.

Cons: 1 con that is of no fault of the psu itself is my pc case itself, the in-win 904 case that i have doesn't leave much space for any normal sized psu's and cables, it can fit but you have to bend the cables to a 90 degree and install the psu upside down to where the fan is pointing up, you dont see this issue on other pc cases, just my poor case buying decision i guess

1 out of 5 eggsThermaltake blowing me off

Pros: -Utilities to monitor power (if it worked)
-Fully Modular cables
-Nice packaging (cables come in their own storage case)

Cons: -Defective unit received.
-Cables look like standard PSU cables, but are not compatible with other PSU cables
-Thermaltake's inability to respond to my RMA request.
-The internal USB header only needs to be a 4- or 5-pin plug rather than the supplied 9-pin plug (ended up using an internal USB expander and offset the plug so it would not block the unused pins)

Other Thoughts: Hooked this unit to my power supply tester before installing and the unit failed. PG signal showed as 970 ms (normal spec is 0-500 ms). I gave it a try anyhow. The computer would start after every 10 presses of the button (I had to hold the power button like I was push starting a Studebaker). Because of this, my BIOS was corrupted 3 times (thankfully I have dual BIOS and was able to recover). I waited too long before starting my build and am unable to RMA through Newegg.

I tried to RMA through Thermaltake and was directed to Tt’s RMA website. Unfortunately, their site requires you to select the product from a pull down list in order to start the process. The website only has a selection available to RMA the TPG-850M (the normal Toughpower 850), but not the TPG-850D (this product). I wanted to do a cross-ship RMA, but I am not willing to select the incorrect product. The TPG-850D is what I paid for and it is what I want.

I contacted Thermaltake about the RMA issue (per their website instruction) several times and they are blowing me off (I contacted them on Dec 10th). The five-year warranty would be awesome if they actually honored it.

I like Thermaltake power supplies, but this may be the last one I buy. I had to run out to the local brick and mortar store and get a PSU to get my computer up and running. I was hopeful of a quick RMA and left all the TPG-850 cables in place in my computer case. The (what I was hoping) temporary PSU I installed has wires along the front of my case and makes my build look ugly. This is because the TPG-850D uses different cables than any other PSU I have ever encountered (I already had these cables routed and hidden). You cannot plug TPG-850D cables into a different PSU. The modular cables ends that plug into the PSU are the standard size and shape as other PSUs, but the pins are different and will not plug into a different PSU. You cannot use standard/after market cables with this unit for the same reason. Be warned that if you need longer cables you will probably have to get them from Tt. I give it one egg since the power supply actually worked on the times I got it to start. Unfortunately, since it almost destroyed my system I wish I can rate it only half an egg

5 out of 5 eggsQUIET POWER

Pros: Fully modular design is great, flat cables make routing easy, and the power supply is very quiet. No issues, worked as advertised.

Cons: Have not been able to get the on screen display to work as of yet, says the USB is not plugged in (though it is), probably installer error (me). Not a big issue.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 7 year old Thermaltake that worked like a champ in order to upgrade to an Sapphire Toxic R9 280X video card.
