4 out of 5 eggsSomewhat stable for a cheap PSU

Pros: Stable for a cheap power supply.
Runs quiet and cool.
Used to replaced dead 250W PSU on a Dell Dimension E510/5150

Cons: 12v rail was oscillating between 11.863 to 12.011.
Not a problem for a low power requirement system.

Other Thoughts: I usually don't buy or recommend this or similar units but the computer owner was discarding the computer if it will cost more than thirty five dollars to fix it. I saw it on sale and got it. I tested for a week before

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: Great power supply, has a lot of plugins that worked out perfect for my build. Is quiet and has great features. Would get again.

Cons: Not completely energy efficient.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend for average to light gaming build.

4 out of 5 eggsOwned 2 years, no problems

Pros: Cheap. Seems to power everything without problem.

Cons: Computer will sometimes randomly restart, and I think it's the PSU, although I have no good way to prove it.

Other Thoughts: If I would have read reviews like there are now, I would be scared to buy this thing. I'd honestly tell people considering this to stay way and buy something else if so many people are having explosions/failures. As for me it's worked great for the last ~2 years, but I think I'll be upgrading to a 700W PSU soon.

3 out of 5 eggsjersey user

Pros: Works great with an ATX motherboard that has a +12v rail. Installed it in a thermaltake V3 with a MSI z77 board. Everything is running fine. However I was planning to make a clean install with every wiring on side or at the back for a good air flow but I was disappointed to see that the wiring is not that long.

Cons: Wires are short to reach a 12 v rail socket on the board. if you want to make a clean and clutter free don't use this PSU get a different one with a longer reach.

Other Thoughts: should have gone full modular.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning for 2 years

Pros: I had one of this 500W in my system since 2010 (purchased from a local retail store but they closed last year), and it is still running
Recently a friend asks me for power supply recommendation for his new system
I find Newegg have it, and ask the friend to give it a try
This is a very less expensive 500W power supply, and it get your money worth
I just use this 2 years old power supply to the upgraded i7 system and it still power the system on as expected

Cons: No modular, no LED ……, if you look for a fancy power supply

Other Thoughts: I just been referred to newegg from a geek, and like a kid in a candy store.
It is great to know Newegg carrys almost everything people need for computer at great price, like this AL-D500EXP (I paid higher than Newegg price to the retail store 2 years ago)
I would recommend this power supply and Newegg to people

2 out of 5 eggsWouldn't buy again

Pros: It works i guess.
Was quiet for the first week.
I like my Apex case.

Cons: Loud after the first week.
Makes weird noises when i turn it off.
Makes weird noises when i power down the computer.
Was told my room smelled like burning.
The color clashes with my case.

Other Thoughts: Came with the combo package. Wouldn't of been my first choice if i had one.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for first timer/low demand system

Pros: - Cheap
- Works great!

Cons: - Not the most efficient power supply in the world.
- I recently installed an EVGA 660 Ti video card and discovered that the power supply didn't have enough cables to fully power it.

Other Thoughts: It works great, but it's not going to be a permanent resident in my computer.

1 out of 5 eggsPlenty of value was lost this day

Pros: None

Cons: Last year, my PSU failed after three years of use. This one advertised some protections against electrical problems, so I chose to get it because it looked like a reliable PSU.

A friend warned me after I ordered the PSU that stuff from APEX tends to be very hit or miss, and unfortunately I got a "critical miss".

After only a couple hours of usage, this PSU suddenly died, and it killed the motherboard with it! I had to buy almost $400 worth of replacement components (motherboard, CPU, RAM, and another PSU) because of this.

Never buying ANYTHING from APEX ever again.

Other Thoughts: I had paid extra for a 1-year extended warrantee on it. It's a shame I lost the paperwork on that. Also tried to RMA it for a refund, but I made the mistake of depending on my brother to get the package delivered, so the RMA expired.
