5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it should - very well

Pros: Great product, good connectors, easy to set-up.

Cons: I had to search for a FAT32 program to use for a MAC/PC application with a 320GB drive. CompuApps SwissKnife is awesome. did the job first time...

Other Thoughts: Should include an extra set of rubber feet and covers as they have limited life...

5 out of 5 eggsIn service two months = very happy

Pros: We have five of these drive enclosures in service and we love them. Quiet, fast, solid, easy to assemble.

Cons: The rubber feet/rounded top screws are a bother as mentioned in other reviews, but this is more an aesthetic problem than anything else. The bottom rubber feet are often not placed evenly. We use them in their stands so this is also an aesthetic issue only.

Other Thoughts: We're using them as FireWire only. When will we see a FW 800 model?

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the best external enclosure!!

Pros: Nice heavy, durable construction. The internal fan keeps my 300GB IDE drive cool and is very quiet.

Cons: As with the other reviews, the rubber covers do not cover the mounting screws well. I replaced the original screws with flathead screws and it works fine.

Other Thoughts: I have looked at other merchants and the enclosures they offer. This is the only one I've found that has quiet, yet effective fan, assuming the others have a fan, which most do not.

My order arrived two days earlier than I expected and of course, Newegg has the best pricing.
Way to go Newegg!!!

4 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: Easy to switch out drives. Runs quiet and cool. No problems with usb or firewire.

Cons: Rubber screw covers are hard to put back on so I just took them off and left them off.

4 out of 5 eggsNow....is everything fine

Pros: Very Solid Construction, and the fan is very silent. The Ide and the power cable are very long so you will not have any trouble with them and at the same time they do not stress the HD Connectors. No problem under Linux. I am very happy and I am going to buy another one as soon as the prize will go down another little bit. Sorry for my English guys :P

Cons: I got my first Item defected; one of the FireWire ports was not working correctly.

Other Thoughts: I send the previous item back and NewEgg had changed it immediately with a new one and they also refund me with the shipping cost. I think NewEgg is one of the best store I have ever bought.

3 out of 5 eggsInitio Problems?

Pros: Well, I used to think that this was the best external enclosure out there. Has a fan, aluminum, reasonably priced, moderately quiet, front power button, every cable you would ever need, etc.

Cons: The change to the Initio chipset, frankly, sucks. This has caused me no end of troubleshooting and torture when I tried to daisy chain an "older" (6 months ago...) Arpicorn to a newer Apricorn. I can't see how waiting for tech support to "fix" this is a good thing. I am certainly not going to fiddle with firmware updates, been there, done that, not worth it.

Other Thoughts: If your HD utility is not forthcoming with the chipset: the actual controller board in the enclosure reads COMBO+ for Oxford and COMBOI for Initio...

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Works well over FireWire with a Seagate 400GB drive that I just purchased.

Cons: Moving it to a different computer, with the USB connection, is a bit buggy. Doesn't quite "plug and play". Have to dink around in Win2K to get the drive to come up.

Other Thoughts: Nicely constructed case, though the rubber screw covers don't fit all that well. It seems to be a tough case, and the fan will help keep things cool inside.

5 out of 5 eggsBest EIDE Enclosure, Period

Pros: Just like it's SATA (EZ-BUS-DTS) counterpart, this is the best EIDE HDD enclosure I've used. It keeps the HDD cool and it's useful with the USB 2.0 & FireWire ports it has (especially when I was transferring data to a friend's MacBook).

Cons: I wish it had a separate light for when there is HDD access, but again, I'm being silly. The case seems to get dirty easily as I saw several of my fingerprints on it (wasn't the case with the DTS).

Other Thoughts: The info on the box is a bit confusing/misleading so if this was sold in a store then it might confuse the average consumer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine With Daisy Chain

Pros: Own two for work and home. Both purchased from reliable Newegg. My vote for best operating USB/FW HDD enclosure. Quiet fan that keeps drive/case cool when running HDD all day. So far, Initio chipset works as well as Oxford.

Cons: Agree with suspect design of rubber feet that cover HDD install screws. Fingerprints easily show on enclosure.

Other Thoughts: Have not experienced daisy chain problems (Initio to Initio) previously reported. Only use Firewire (FW) for connections. Working 4 item FW chain as follows: #1 Apricorn USB/FW (Initio) connected to #2 Acomdata USB/FW (Initio) connected to #3 Iomega USB/FW HDD (N/A) connected to #4 LG GSA-4167B USB/FW (Oxford). No operating problems, but definitely need to be very careful with drive letter assignments (which may be problem with previous report).

3 out of 5 eggsCurrently Having Issues With Daisychaining.

Pros: Good hard drive fit. All aluminum construction. Runs quiet and cool. Good transfer speed.

Cons: They recently changed chipsets and haven't yet worked out the new issues. If you plan to buy two and daisychain them, contact their techsupport first and ask if they ironed things out yet.

Other Thoughts: I can not comment on the included software. I never installed it. Their techsupport was prompt in responding and they are currently working on a solution.
