The Sabrent SBT-EKU25 external enclosure sports a super slim design that gives a sleek look to this value-laden unit. It features an ultra light aluminum case for strength and rigidity, crucial to a portable device like this. An LED indicator gives you clear power and hard disc status indicators.

You can now reuse any old 2.5" IDE hard drive as a portable external storage device, giving you easy access and storage expandability to your desktop or notebook PC. The USB 2.0 interface allows for faster 480 Mbps data transfers, enabling you to make your internal IDE drive into a USB 2.0 drive, even supporting USB 1.1 and UDMA/100 specifications. Plug-and-play operations and hotswappability means your data can move when and where you need it to.

Bus-power support lets you use the newly enclosed hard drive without connecting to an additional power source. Moreover, it even supports Windows 98, 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP and Mac Os 8.6 and above operating systems. It comes with driver disk, user manual, screwdriver, and carrying case. This is a great, compact case for a great price!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: There really isn't much to say about this product, other than it works flawlessly.

Cons: The blue LED might be a bit bright for some, but I really don't mind.

Other Thoughts: This enclosure has a Y-plug, so it'll take up two USB 2.0 ports. The HDD I'm using seems to work just fine with only one plugged in, but that can't be said for all drives.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: good for adding storage.
Has a standard rather than micro usb connector which means it will last longer through plug-unplug cycles.
fits ata 33/66/100/133 drives
controller board can be plugged to ancient thick (not even ata33) drives that are too thick and still works with them for recovering data)
properly assembled with the correct thickness drive its great. works like a charm.

Cons: none aside from the hdd not being held in place by anything but the ide connector. but thats no big deal.

Other Thoughts: most external enclosures use micro usb or mini usb, which can break off from the circuit board relatively easlly rendering them useless. Had this happen with a $129.99 high power wifi card too, so I tend to stay away from miniusb components. great that this has a standard A usb on both ends. :)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Functioned well. I have dual boot with win xp and win 7, both worked without problems.

Cons: 1) There were some dimensional problem. When I pushed the card all the way in the pci-e slot, there was still a gap with the bracket screw area and the case. If I tighten the screw, the card will start to rotate with the far side lifting off from the pci-e slot.
2) I used the 20 pin plug to install couple of usb3 ports to the front. There was very little space between the plug and one of the ram chip. I have to loop, bent the wire just barely got it in. This is a unique problem with my motherboard. If you intend to use the 20 pin plug, make sure you have clearance with other stuff on your motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsMisleading title

Pros: Good price for a 2.5 enclosure

Cons: Very misleading title for the case. you cannot know it is an IDE until you actually look at the images in the gallery. this should be obvious in the description.

Other Thoughts: who browse though all the images just for an external enclosure. why would you not put that it's an IDE enclosure in the description.

1 out of 5 eggsBad quality

Pros: It works with IDE 2.5" hard drives.

Cons: This enclusre requires a usb 2.0 port that is attached to the board, it will not power up over usb 2.0 ports on cases for some reason.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the price. I now use an Orico 2595US3 Red Brushed Aluminum enclosure and they are the best 2.5" enclosures available.

5 out of 5 eggsROCKS!!!

Pros: Tested 640GB, 750GB PATA/IDE 2.5" drives

Cons: They make 1TB SATA drives but not 1TB IDE so the advertisement is wrong.
