1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Small, attractive, cheap

Cons: My unit is unusable. Frequent CRC errors that halt copy operations. An unreliable backup drive is perhaps worse than no backup drive.

Drive gets very hot after several minutes of operation, but CRC errors start immediately.

Other Thoughts: Enclosures for high capacity 3.5" drives need fans unless they have mesh sides. Don't believe the statements that the aluminum case will "cool" the drive. A closed box is a closed box.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Slick Enclosure

Pros: Small footprint, great cooling, and simple assembly.

Cons: Power and USB cables could be longer. This was not enough to lower rating.

Other Thoughts: This thing is excellent, if you need this type of solution this is the only one you will need

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure

Pros: Nice small enclosure. I have purchased about 25 of them without a single glitch. The aluminum case transfers the heat from the drive to the outside rather than trapping it inside.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Over the last year or so they have migrated the design to use a standard USB cable.

5 out of 5 eggsdid what i needed

Pros: does exactly what i needed.

Cons: little slow.

Other Thoughts: i put a 500g seagate barricuda in mine an i know that a barricuda has a higher transfer rate but it works. the power cable is about 10ft. long an the data cable is about 2ft.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent enclosure

Pros: Looks cool, holds your drives tight, cheap.

Cons: On occasion I get usb i/o errors when I turn it on that require me to turn it off and back on again. If you only turn it on when not doing much USB stuff, it'll work just fine (don't turn on two at the same time for example).

Other Thoughts: A decent choice if you're looking for something cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Rubber cusioned. Fan keeps the drives cool. Looks great.

Cons: Lighted fan is a little annoying. Fan not variable speed.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I loved everything about the case (no frills, barebones) and the screwdriver was a nice touch.

Cons: The controller registers any drive I plug into it as write-protected. (Tested on Win7 and a few *nix flavors, with two different drives, one unformatted and one from another functional enclosure)

Other Thoughts: Judging from other reviews I'm inclined to think controller quality is an issue.

1 out of 5 eggsUSELESS

Pros: Cheap, Easy Setup

Cons: Won't Stay Connected

Other Thoughts: I bought this enclosure to transfer data from a PC with a fried motherboard to a new Mac. I had the drive setup and connected to the Mac in less than 5 minutes, which was great. However, when trying to transfer large volumes of data the drive will randomly disconnect and have to be turned off/on again; could be a problem with the controller, or an overheating issue. Either way, this thing is pretty much useless for my needs. I threw it away and bought a Rosewill for about the same price. Rosewill works perfectly.

3 out of 5 eggsYou can hook up an HDD...but...

Pros: Connection allows me to use an old 80gig as an external, backup PS3. dirt cheap.

Cons: The actual enclosure is terrible. Complete lack of heat dissipation means no extended operations are possible when in case. Tried to use this to back up PS3 and failed every time. Noticed how hot things were getting, removed HDD from case and it worked right away.

Other Thoughts: If you just need to back something up externally every once in awhile this is a cheap way to go, but don't expect to use it like a real external backup solution
