3 out of 5 eggsBeware exposed copper and uncovered Circut board

Pros: Works well, now

Cons: bare copper, with no screws to hold HDD in place, if you experience a non-functioning drive at first, try placing some electrical tape between the case and the circuit board, hopefully you won't fry your drive.

Other Thoughts: besides the electrical tape, the drive doesn't sit in there snugly, so I used some foam tape to help give it a bit more protection and fit in there more snugly, this unit really needs to have some screws to hold the HDD in place.

3 out of 5 eggsBait and switched

Pros: it worked it was cheap
the enclosure itself has many merits over ones i have used before but i cant say i am very happy with it...

Cons: Well first off mine did not come with the case pictured or described it instead came with a drawstring nylon fake velvet style bag.
Then the fit of the hard drive when i put my drive in i was not expecting it to be 100% like a glove but it flopped around and rattled in the enclosure a single strip of foam tape on the other side of the enclosure would have prevented the issue.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work on esata

Pros: It does work on usb. I could have bought plently of enclosures that did that. I needed esata.

Cons: No matter what was done, this would not work on esata. A return to Coolmax got another identical unit that also did not work. The arrogant reply from coolmax support was "we have tested these units for esata and it is working correctly". Not true! It would only work using USB on a Toshiba Portege or on my desktop. I tried multiple other enclosures I have and they all function perfectly using esata on the same connections.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy if you want esata to function. Very poor product and support from Coolmax. Their attitude was we will replace it once and then tell you it works and let you try a refund elsewhere. The process of returning it to Coolmax ate up the return time for Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: Came with everything you need to put in your hard drive. Small screw driver, cable and a nice leather case I didn't expect.

Cons: The outside of the enclosure feels rough/unfinished.

Other Thoughts: It isn't the most expensive thing out there but it looks good unless you really scrutinize it.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Nice coloring, tiny, comes with a case, and does what it's supposed to.

Cons: No extra bonus E-Sata like other folks got.

Mine came with a T6 screw for one of the four needed to secure the end pieces. Not a big deal as I have a T6 screwdriver but be aware of it.

Other Thoughts: Running a 320GB WD Scorpio. Some cables will allow you to run the drive with only one USB port.

Pros: Works great, I feel the heat dissipating from the HD. Snug secure fit and transfers just fine.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great product.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Nice price. Works as advertised. Solid, good-looking metal enclosure.

Cons: Kind of a squeeze for my hard drive. It's a tight fit; the screws put up a fight to going all the way in, and the enclosure bulges ever so slightly at the back (not noticeable unless you look for it). However, it's not so bad that it sways my confidence; in fact, I don't even mind much, knowing the HDD is very solidly secured in there.

Other Thoughts: I have a 320gb Western Digital drive in here. Don't remember the exact model, but I how many 320gb 7200rpm 2.5" SATA drives does WD make?

5 out of 5 eggsCan't Get More For Less

Pros: Price - Under $15, can't complain.

Simplicity - Installation and assembly is very easy and a mini screwdriver is included.

Size - Nice and small for travel.

Travel case - Case is a nice addition and protects from minor bumps and scratches.

eSATA - Though not listed on the item description, it DOES have an eSATA jack.

Cables included - 3' eSATA and 3' USB Y-cable ( two USB ends help draw extra power if needed. )

Cons: Minimal drive protection - only a little foam at the front of the enclosure secures the drive in the case, but I don't hear my drive sliding around inside. And you shouldn't be jostling a platter HDD anyway.

LED - It's on the back and only signals on/off. Would have been nice to be up front and blink to show activity, but it's not a huge problem. On the upside, the LED on the back means it won't light up the room at night.

No eSATAp - It would have been nice to have a powered eSATA jack so it could operate on a single cable. As it is, eSATA mode requires the USB cable to power the drive while data goes over the eSATA cable. Two cables isn't ideal, but you already get the eSATA for "free" so expecting eSATAp for under $20 is asking a lot. It's not a big deal.

Small travel case - You can fit the drive and both cables in the case, but doing so will stretch the seams.

Other Thoughts: People reporting power problems ( the constant clicking noise, ) are under-powering the drive they put in the enclosure. Some HDDs require more power than others, especially the higher RPM models, and some motherboards are more finicky about power output over USB than others. The enclosure itself doesn't use power.

I use this enclosure with a 60 GB Seageate 5400RPM drive ( old PS3 drive, ) and it works on my laptop using only one end of the provided USB Y cable. But on my older desktop ( older ASUS nForce board, ) it will click like mad even using both ends of the Y cable. However, if I use a powered USB hub between the drive and my desktop, it will work just fine.

Also, as some people have problems fitting larger drives in the enclosure, I'll guess the "250" in the item name refers to the max drive size that will fit in the case ( some larger drives can be slightly thicker so squeezing them inside may be very tight, or they just won't fit at all. Just a guess on my part.
