2 out of 5 eggsesata functionality doesn't work very well

Pros: cheap, aluminum, usb 2.0 connection works with no issues

Cons: The eSata functionality of this enclosure doesn't work too well. I've tried it in both my lenovo laptop and my custom built desktop with minimal luck. Most of the time windows explorer freezes up while trying to recognize the drive.

Additionally, the esata cable is very rigid and hard to fit in the included case along with the USB cable.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: Aluminum Case is great for dissipating heat. eSata worked flawlesssly and so did USB 2.0. Using ATTO benchmark for esata i got 46 read and 45 write. With USB 2.0 i got 35 read and 21 write. If your writing to this drive and your using esata you just cut your total write time in half and then some. 45 read is nice to have over the 35 as well. When i copied files from the external to the internal hdd it copied it at the max read speed for the external which was 45 vs the 35. Def a nice speed increase. Love the usb y cable when using usb 2.0. Also love the case it came with. The aluminum gold looks pretty nice too. I didnt think i was going to like it. Its def more of a gold than a yellow. Im using a WD scorpio blue, 120 gb, 5400 rpm drive.

Cons: The silver aluminum strip had a thumb sized dent in it. Not really a con because i knew this going into it but i had to plug in the usb plugs when using esata. I meant to try just one plug to see if it worked but i didnt want to mess with it right away.

Other Thoughts: I had to shutdown then plug in the external then start up the computer for esata to work. Def not hot swappable. USB 2.0 was hot swappable though. I guess if maybe you get a hot swap sata hard drive cage with your case then maybe, not 100% on that though. Also you know your esata is working because there wont be an option to safely remove hard ware in the bottom right hand corner. There is that option with usb 2.0 though. Unless that option appears everytime you boot your computer of course :) If your still not 100% sure just run a disk benchmark using esata then use usb 2.0. ;)

5 out of 5 eggs(>'.')> Works Great for a sub $20 enclosure!

Pros: Aluminum helps to dissipate heat

eSATA works just fine on win7 x64 out of the box, and was hot swappable.
(>'.')> Just plug in the USB cable last.

comes with a tiny screwdriver for the few who might not have a Phillips driver that small.

Cons: aluminum is VERY light weight if accidents happen to you
I would find something else cause there is not much between your drive and the world.

it feels like nothing more than a hobby box someone took the time to install a hard drive in

Other Thoughts: I am going to look into another eSATA cable.
The one that came with it is seems more rigid than internal SATA cables making it a bit cumbersome limiting motion and placement.

My ASUS G72Gx laptop has its eSATA port on the back, and the USB on the sides making my options of where to sit the drive limited to 10 or 3 o-clock off the laptop as to keep from unplugging the drive accidentally.

Most modern pc's have multiple USB ports so the USB Y cable that is needed for extra power when using eSATA is not an issue.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Works on small files but hangs when copying large file. May be getting too hot. The red light keeps flashing on the unit forever and sometime hangs my computer when I try to kill the job. Even once in a while the format will never stop, red light stay on flashing.

Other Thoughts: Like someone else said. Not worth the $21 to send it back.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: it works well in win7 64 bit, connect the esata cable first then the usb connector for power. drivers install. viola!

Cons: have to connect two cables for esata. esata cable is stiff.

Other Thoughts: it was worth it for the intended use but probably wouldn't buy it again knowing what i know now. shouldn't have impulse bought. shame on me.

5 out of 5 eggseSATA works fine

Pros: This drive enclosure works perfectly. The people that say the eSATA interface is not working probably tried to plug it into a computer that was running. eSATA, at least this enclosure with windows 7, requires the BIOS to see the drive during boot-up for it to utilize the eSATA interface. Otherwise your USB drivers will pick it up. Dont listen to the hype, this enclosure works perfectly....yes even with Western Digital Blue drives with their high starting current that many have complained about.

Cons: eSATA cable wont fit in the ugly case provided. You have to use one more finger to transport it.

Other Thoughts: Try not to let the bad press stop you from buying this product, it works great. RMA kings are novices.

4 out of 5 eggsNo eSATA, try the HD-211-eSATA

Pros: RMA replacement for the HD-250YL- eSATA works, came with optional power brick, has power and activity LEDs. Mounting "sled" for hard drive. One button "back-up" software

Cons: Somewhat longer than the HD-250YL, so hard-pack case from the HD-250 won't fit. Came with cheap faux suede baggie. End caps are chromed plastic parts, with the retaining screw binding the plastic tabs of the end caps to the case. Drive "sled" rattles in the case.

Other Thoughts: HD-350YL RMA-

1 out of 5 eggsCan't Recommend

Pros: Yellow Color stands out, makes it easy to find.
USB 2.0 connection works, but so do thousands of other products

Cons: eSATA does not work.
No Directions/manual in the box.

Went to Coolmax website to check out manual and see if I am doing something wrong. Nope, connected the unit just like the said. Tried a different eSATA port, different cable, and still no eSATA.

Other Thoughts: Bought this unit because of the eSATA support. Now I have a USB 2.0 device instead. The $15 price isn't worth the hassle to try to exchange. Guess I found out why it is so inexpensive. My search for a 2.5" eSATA carrier continues.
