3 out of 5 eggsDecent enclosure for the price

Pros: Drive fits in enclosure smoothly - good tolerances.
Plug and play.

Cons: Construction is a little cheap feeling.
Drive mounting is a little confusing as you have to take both the back and front off the enclosure to mount the drive.

1 out of 5 eggsCoolmax eSATA Ext Enclosure

Pros: Before it fell apart, it performed as advertised.

Cons: Typical horrible Asian build quality. This enclosure literally fell apart after a couple connect/ disconnect. Construction materials could not be worse. More often than not, for low cost over seas products, you get what you pay for. Of course, as a backup external hard drive, I only used it 3-4 times in 2 months so I can not return it for credit.

Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy this item. Pay more and get a better manufacturer.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective eSATA Controller

Pros: Looks good till the leather cover peels off at the edges, which was three days after I bought it.

Cons: The eSATA controller is junk. Most of the time it's impossible to detect by the OS, and when it does it performs extremely slow. Will not buy again and definitely not worth returning for replacement. Ended up in the trash can just a few minutes ago.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Inexpensive, looks pretty nice, eSATA & USB, quiet. Comes with an eSATA cable too.

Cons: The power adapter has, for the better part of my time owning this product, been loose. When plugging it into the enclosure, I have to rotate it for the power connectors to make contact. Then I have to hope that it keeps that contact when I let it go. This might not seem too bad, but it can lead to a slight bump to the drive disconnecting power.

Other Thoughts: Never used the OTB button/feature.
Using a WD 1TB in it.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Decent Enclosure

Pros: The case works pretty good. It was easy to pull apart, 2 screws hold it all together. I didn't try the USB on this yet but the eSATA worked great. For the size it seems to be able to keep the drive cool and is fairly quiet.

Cons: It did start vibrating a bit when it ran the drive after the first 2 or 3 days. I just kinda re-adjusted it in it's holder and moved it on the table a little and it's been hush-hush ever since.

Other Thoughts: I like this because it's isn't too much effort to toss a drive in this and hook it up. Some can be a bit more effort than others but this one is pretty good.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Seems to run very cool * easy setup * works with both USB and eSata.

Cons: Cables are very short. This limits location options. OTB software does not work (Windows 7). No install disk - everything must be installed via web download. Customer service has yet to respond to the OTB problem ... do they exist?

Other Thoughts: I can work around the OTB problem, so ... other than that, it seems to function as expected. I'm using this as an external backup so performance is not a key factor. I am concerned about the lack of customer service response, though. All in all, it functions, and it was cheap. I'm not holding my breath on getting my rebate, though.

4 out of 5 eggsnice enclosure, small size

Pros: 1. Works
2. Nice blue/red LED to signify power on and read/write
3. Small size
4. Nice power on/off toggle switch
5. Keeps drive pretty cool (I have a 1 TB Hitachi drive and after 12hrs of straght backup drive was under 50 degrees C, case only slightly warm to the touch)

Cons: 1. USB and eSata cords are too short. If you place the enclosure directly on top of or besides your PC they're work. If you want to put the enclosure on top of a desk it won't reach.
2. Some people report power problems? (see other thoughts)
3. Some people report data corruption? (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I have this exact enclosure, except the Brown color that NewEgg also sells. Regarding power, my adapter fits fine, no power interruption or needing to drill the back plate as others have done. Regarding data corruption, I had two issues with the enclosure (eSata connection) at first because it would randomly dismount itself from my PC when it wanted too. Usually in the middle of reading/writing data. That wasn't the enclosure's fault though, I discovered my eSata controller drivers were over 3 years old. After updating my eSata drivers (from JMicron) it's worked flawlessly since. If you're having data corruption check your eSata drivers. Most motherboard and PC manufacturers never post updates for them...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat, Inexpensive Enclosure

Pros: Been using for 4 months now - HEAVY use - and had no problems. Easy to insert hard-drive, and most importantly, it never gets hot. I've got a TB WD Black Cavier in it and it's never more than warm to the touch. Of course, it's important to keep in mind that it's in an AC environment. Not sure how cool it would be in a hot room, since it's a fanless enclosure. Still, I have a another enclosure that does have a fan, a Rosewill, and if you turn the fan off that enclosure gets steaming hot, with the same HD and also in an AC environment. So hats-off to Coolmax for the cool design.

Cons: My main gripe is the front cover: The wire holding it to the body is so short that it makes it difficult to get the cover back on. Even being as delicate as I was, a small piece of plastic chipped off when I was putting it back on.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat enclosure

Pros: Setup is easy, all the needed screws are included, clearly visible status light, external power switch, cools fine, eSATA is a plus.

Cons: The USB connector on one of the ones I own (I have two) seems a bit flaky.

Other Thoughts: A great value, especially if your computer has an eSATA port.
