3 out of 5 eggsCoolmax HD-250BK-U3

Pros: I like the USB 3 interface and the aluminum case. The case is rugged and helps keep the HD cool.

Cons: It died after only 21 months. No light, no spinning hard drive, not recognized by the OS. It's winter, so static electricity may have zapped it. But, my phone, TV and stereo get zapped all the time and they haven't died. This enclosure spent most of it's life in a computer bag, not even fired up. In reality, it probably has less than 80 total hours of use. So, I think it died too soon. I'll gladly send it back to CoolMax if they want to do a failure analysis.

5 out of 5 eggsCoolMax HD External Enclosure

Pros: 1.) This is a nicely crafted enclosure
2.) Works well on both USB 2.0 and 3.0.
3.) The HD is a 2.5" 1-Terabyte "LapTop" unit

Cons: USB cable supplied is OK for a laptop connect but TOO short for a work station connect

Other Thoughts: Super storage capacity for a reasonable cost

5 out of 5 eggs Does the job

Pros: Slapped in a 160gb hard drive and worked without any issues so far. have not tested USB 3.0 speeds but nice that is there and will take advantage whenever possible. Plugged in and just works. Black brush metal with blue activity LED is a nice cosmetic touch.

Cons: No negative comments so far.

1 out of 5 eggsCannot access HDD

Pros: None

Cons: Cant access installed hard drive! Tried with two computers. One computer identifies as cd rom and another doesn't identify at all, when trying to access from my computer. Device manager identifies both hard drives as not initialized.

Other Thoughts: I Purchased a seagate momentous XT Super Speed laptop solid state hybrid drive with this enclosure. Installed in this enclosure and connected to my toshiba laptop. Went to my computer and external drive was identified as a cd rom drive? I Clickd on drive and computer requested i insert disk in cd rom? I then opened device manager/hard drive and hard drive was listed. I then shut down and connected to my other laptop, a Samsung. Went to my computer and no external hard drive listed. Went to device manager/hard drives and hard drive was identified. I went back to device manager on both computers and clickd on seagate hard drive/volumes and hit populate. Under status noted "not initialized". I am presently waiting on a new enclosure of another manufacture. I will update further of any addtl findings after testing in new enclosure.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: I've got this paired with an WD 750GB Black drive. The sata connector on the enclosure does not attach securely to the drive, the only thing keeping them together is friction. The enclosure appeared to stop working one day and after taking it apart I noticed the drive had come a little free from the connector. The enclosure is just long enough for the drive to slip out of the connector without much force. I've found a couple small rubber stoppers that I've placed inside to stop the drive from coming loose. Other than it it works perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little Enclosure

Pros: All aluminum casing with plastic ends. Bought this to put my laptop HDD in afterI replaced it with a SSD, 750GB seagate 7200rpm momentus HDD got up to 122MB/s read and 110MB/s sequential write in crystal disk mark, I am VERY impressed with this drive enclosure!

Doesn't need a power cord, it is fully powered from the USB port

Came with spare screws and a screwdriver for drive installation!

Cons: Metal casing was a little bowed in towards the drive, but it doesn't effect the drive installation at all.

Other Thoughts: for $20 I am impressed with the real brushed aluminum finish and excellent HDD speeds on SS USB 3.0.

Using it for steam games/mass storage because I replaced my gaming laptops drive with a SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and cheap

Pros: Fast USB3, keeps drive cool and cheap. I've bought quite a few of these and not had any problems. Work fine with Macbooks also.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to use enclosure

Pros: Sleek little enclosure. Comes with a bag and screwdriver with extra screws in case you lose any. 500gb laptop samsung drive fit right in snug. So easy to get it up and running. Transfer speeds better than expected.

Cons: None, its your basic drive enclosure. You put the drive in and go.

Other Thoughts: Going to mount some rubber feet on the bottom

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but doesn't fit a .28'' drive

Pros: It works, and it does get hit its advertised speeds.

Cons: It didn't fit a 500GB .28'' drive that it said it would. It was too tall and the drive kept shifting and it was definitely unstable. I placed a small piece of rubber to keep it from moving, but just a warning to anyone else with a thin HD that this probably won't work for you.

Other Thoughts: The case is high quality, and it does come with a nice 3.0 USB cable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product!

Pros: -Metal 'shell'
-USB 3.0
-No external power needed (even on USB 2.0)!
-Drive seems secure when the enclosure is sealed
-Worked with a 120Gb SSD & the 80Gb OEM hard drive from a PS3

Cons: -The caps on the end are plastic, would have loved metal, worry about cracking, but for the price I am satisfied!

Other Thoughts: -I got a max of 150 Mb/s read and 140 Mb/s write between the 3 machines equipped with USB 3.0 that I tested this with. When the SSD was in my tower on a SATA port it got the advertised >200 Mb/s read/write speeds. Not sure if this was a limitation of the USB 3.0 controller on my mobo(s), or the enclosure itself. Just keep that in mind if you expect the blazing speeds that the new USB standard advertises :)
