5 out of 5 eggsBest power supply company

Pros: Owned for almost 3 years, had to replace a fan once because it was dirty as hell (my fault). The power supply has never randomly rebooted, never failed in any way shape or form. Thats what you look for with a power supply; not pretty cables, or shiny casing. Those things you can see before you purchase the product. And if they are not up to your standards, you are a moron for buying it. A review is a customers measurement of a manufacturers follow through on their promised parameters of operation.

Cons: BIG, but i knew that before i bought it, so i won't take off an egg for it (see how the system works?)

Other Thoughts: I read a decent number of the reviews for this product and can honestly say that most people who bashed it have no idea how to judge a power supply. it is the most important part in the computer because it can kill every other part! if you get a DOA product, that doesn't mean that the product should get 1 egg. That is one instance of an entire product line. Being an engineer, i know that flukes are completely unavoidable. If you buy the wrong accessory cables and cannot find the replacements, the product should not get 1 egg, thats your fault.

2 out of 5 eggsdid not make the 1 year

Pros: nice price, modular, 600w bronze,

Cons: well my fan has started to make a noise.
i.e. the bearing has gone out.
have not try to get a rma yet. need to replace the PS before i have to send it off and not have one for a month.
the fan is a 135 mm one, and newegg does not carry one.
if they did i would replace it.
! but replacing anything in a PS is should not to be done by the untrained !
the sticker " danger high voltage " does mean it

Other Thoughts: well, i just wounder if the other 2 sst will die in the next 2-5 months also.
is this a trend ?
i do not want to find out. will not buy a SS again

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: Modular design.

Cons: Makes hissing noise.

Died exactly after 1 year of use. Have to pay shipping costs to send it for repairs. Won't cross-ship.

Other Thoughts: This PSU is way overpriced for what you get.

5 out of 5 eggsClearly A Cut Above the Rest

Pros: QUIET, cabling is intelligent and easy to manage for maximizing air flow inside case. First time buying something from Silverstone other than fans, I am very impressed. It appears Silverstone makes excellence a priority in all their products.

Cons: Zero

Other Thoughts: The concept of the 24 pin being modular was a major plus and along with its positioning on the side of the power supply closest to the back wall of the computer case was a major in my decision to try this product, now that I have it, I am totally satisfied.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Fan, Bad Support Options

Pros: The cable system is pretty slick.

Cons: I have this installed in a media center PC and the fan is now constantly making very loud grinding noises. Silverstone support did offer to replace the unit under warranty, but they told me I would have to pay the shipping to send it to them and they would not cross-ship to limit the amount of downtime I'm going to have. After telling them it would be cheaper for me to replace the fan myself instead of paying for the shipping, they told me if I did that, my warranty would be voided.

Other Thoughts: The cable system is only partially keyed. The keying system will give you a false sense of security and if you're not reading the label carefully, there are a couple of cables you could mix up.

1 out of 5 eggsIt b broke.

Pros: It worked great for a few months with rock solid voltages. Lots of flexibility.

Cons: Now my PC will randomly shut down and reboot after a couple hours. Usually while gaming. Thought it was the heat which was never excessive, but I decided to take off side cover and used a large fan just in case. It didn't help, bummer.

Other Thoughts: What a disappointment. I've had cheap Rosewills that have lasted longer. I will stick with Corsair and Thermaltake from now on. They have yet to let me down. This PS is way overpriced for what you get and now I'm stuck with trying to get it fixed. Spend the extra money and get something better else you will possibly regret it. Thought Silverstone was high quality but now I know that's not the case.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. I want to assure you that we are on equal footing with the other brands you mentioned in terms of quality. 4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Modular
Heavy (Good indication of higher quality parts)

Cons: Big
No On/Off switch

The picture shown is NOT the actual PSU. A 120mm fan and an on/off switch are shown but it has a 135mm fan and no on/off.

Other Thoughts: If you're not really into overclocking, it may not be worth shelling out 120 bucks for a little extra stability. A $60 or $70 one may fit your needs and save you some cash.
