An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 575 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution) at a great price. Could this be your next power supply?

  • newegg ATX12V Compatible Compatible with the ATX12V standard, the LOGISYS Computer PS575XBK power supply provides maximum power stability to drive the latest Intel and AMD processors as well as other components for desktop and entry-level server computer systems.

1 out of 5 eggsbad power supply

Pros: none

Cons: I received the first one and it was doa. I tested the computer with another p/s and it worked fine. I did a rma and got a second one, it was also doa. I am not wanting to try for a third since it cost just as much to ship it back as it was to order it. good luck for anyone who decides to try with this manufacturer.

1 out of 5 eggshorrible power supply

Pros: It has ok configuration, 6 sata etc.

Cons: haven't had one of these last more than a day and on the third right now. usually lasts less than 3-4 hours, then system goes down.

Other Thoughts: extremely disappointed so far. I have a fairly low power system not even a non motherboard video card, Sata SSD,HD and dvd drive and thats it. and so far have went through 3 of these power supplies, then getting a replacement and it goes out again. In the meantime between waiting for replacements, I use a different powersupply and no problems at all with it.

1 out of 5 eggsalready burning out

Pros: none

Cons: already shutting down the computer and losing power. there is no video card, on board video. High pitch noise from psu when first got it and was plugged in. Just horrible and was afraid this was going to happen down the road. replacing already after 5 months with it.

5 out of 5 eggs7 years & still running

Pros: Low price, quiet, has never given me a power related or fan hiccup.

Cons: None for me, but newegg customers say 3 stars??

Other Thoughts: I purchased this in 2007 and it's still working perfectly fine. My computer might not be run 24/7 but it haven't been an office queen either. I have no complaints I could mention.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: none

Cons: I purchased this to use in a new build with an amd 8 core. I guess the short description is that it just shuts off. I never was able to make it through the windows 7 install most tries it would drop power just after post. newegg sent a replacement which did the same thing so I go a different brand and am having no problems with it at all.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Low Cost PSU

Pros: I've used this in my second build, which controls my second monitor that is mounted above my main monitor via KVM. I'm actually here to buy a second one for my BF4 server. This is a perfect PSU you your not doing anything serious.

Cons: I have none!

Other Thoughts: I know the brand is not a well know brand, but I took apart a 500W Logisys, its build like any other PSU with a big brand name. Just thought id share my input.

3 out of 5 eggsmakes noise when plugged ni

Pros: when plugged in and turned on, the psu makes a high pitch noise if you listen closely. Everything runs still with no problems, just the noise is a little bit cumbersome.

Cons: Everything runs still with no problems, just the noise is a little bit cumbersome.

2 out of 5 eggsFollowing Suit

Pros: Very cheap price.

All the connectors you could possibly need for a "cheap build" system.

Considerable sound level.

Usually a good cheap brand, that can get you by fairly well. I've used Logisys in many "general use" systems, and they work quite well.

Cons: Peak wattage is almost never met with these units.

For whatever reason, being an 8-pin eps PSU, it has an entire set of molex connectors, which I'm not sure anyone needing the 8-pin power, would actually use. One or two should be mixed in with another SATA chain.

There is only one SATA chain cable as well, and if you need connections on the bottom and top of a full ATX tower, you will have trouble making the stretch (i.e. case mounted SSD at bottom, and combo drive in top 5.25" bay).

Logisys is known to barely meet the peek wattage in most cases, but this unit could not fully power the 5V, and 12V, causing fans to run slow, even when forced to run at 100%. Not only that, being a system that needed all 575W, it would constantly shut down seconds after being powered up due to the lack of power.

Other Thoughts: Logisys is usually a good cheap brand, that can get you by fairly well. I've used Logisys in many "general use" systems for several years, and they work quite well.

I know a received a faulty unit, but it is par for the coarse when dealing with Logisys. I would suggest ordering two of these if you plan to buy, and return the bad one (usually a 50/50 chance). The good one will run great for a long period of time. The other should show signs of sparking, power loss, or caps catching fire (seriously).

1 out of 5 eggsBad Buy

Pros: Price was good. Unit looked nice.

Cons: Neither unit worked.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of this PS for a new build. I installed the first one and it didn't work. I did get it where it would power the board and CPU only. Anything else and it made a ticking noise and system would not boot. I installed the second thinking it was just a bad unit. It did the same thing. RMA items back to Newegg and got a refund. Newegg was great on the return process. They initially charged me for shipping but after talking to the RMA representative they provided a free return label because the units were defective.
