An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 575 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution) at a great price. Could this be your next power supply?

Pros: Very cheap price.

All the connectors you could possibly need for a "cheap build" system.

Considerable sound level.

Usually a good cheap brand, that can get you by fairly well. I've used Logisys in many "general use" systems, and they work quite well.

Cons: Peak wattage is almost never met with these units.

For whatever reason, being an 8-pin eps PSU, it has an entire set of molex connectors, which I'm not sure anyone needing the 8-pin power, would actually use. One or two should be mixed in with another SATA chain.

There is only one SATA chain cable as well, and if you need connections on the bottom and top of a full ATX tower, you will have trouble making the stretch (i.e. case mounted SSD at bottom, and combo drive in top 5.25" bay).

Logisys is known to barely meet the peek wattage in most cases, but this unit could not fully power the 5V, and 12V, causing fans to run slow, even when forced to run at 100%. Not only that, being a system that needed all 575W, it would constantly shut down seconds after being powered up due to the lack of power.

Other Thoughts: Logisys is usually a good cheap brand, that can get you by fairly well. I've used Logisys in many "general use" systems for several years, and they work quite well.

I know a received a faulty unit, but it is par for the coarse when dealing with Logisys. I would suggest ordering two of these if you plan to buy, and return the bad one (usually a 50/50 chance). The good one will run great for a long period of time. The other should show signs of sparking, power loss, or caps catching fire (seriously).

1 out of 5 eggsBad Buy

Pros: Price was good. Unit looked nice.

Cons: Neither unit worked.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of this PS for a new build. I installed the first one and it didn't work. I did get it where it would power the board and CPU only. Anything else and it made a ticking noise and system would not boot. I installed the second thinking it was just a bad unit. It did the same thing. RMA items back to Newegg and got a refund. Newegg was great on the return process. They initially charged me for shipping but after talking to the RMA representative they provided a free return label because the units were defective.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked well for the 2 years that I owned it.

Cons: Computer randomly cuts off now after playing not even graphic intensive games like LoL, but I've had PSU for 2 years and it has worked well till recently.

Other Thoughts: Good buy for the 2 years I owned it. Good PSU for the most part.

4 out of 5 eggsDo the job

Pros: It work perfectly for my new Asus M5A99X EVO motherboard with a AMD phenom II x4 and my ATI Radeon HD 4700.

Cons: The first one I got was broken. The quality level seem to be very low. But the one I receive was greeat.

Other Thoughts: Seriously, if you want to buy from a website, take this one. The remplacement protocol are fast and easy. I never, and would never got this kind of service.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Low cost, powerful, and fairly quiet.

Cons: The cables are very short. Came out of the box with a huge dent in it. The box was fine, so not a shipping issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGETTING OLD

Pros: I started using these PS back when the ATI 3870 and 8800 GT and 260 came out, Then I carried over to the 4850 then the 460 and still all 8 worked. Now I am using them on the 5850` and 6950 with NO problems now these are over 5-6 years old. I have newer 750 and 850 for my 770 and 280x.

Cons: A few months back I hooked up a 650 Ti Boost and it lasted 10 minutes. 5 year old PS if you have a 460 or a 6950 or so these DO Work fine any VC newer high end I would say NO. A newer one of these Might handle a 650 TI

Other Thoughts: I bought 8 of these for 21 $ 5-6 years ago and 6 are still working so I can't complain. I ran 2 8800 GT for 3 years and not one problem. I have 2 650TI Boost and where on sale for 260 $ for Both with 4 GIG ram there just as fast as a 770 there all gone now to many people SAW that.

1 out of 5 eggsBad combo

Pros: low cost

Cons: 8 pin PS cable barely makes it to the connector, on the Biostar MB. It goes right across all of the expansion slots so if you needed to add a PCIe card it wouldn't fit at all.

5 out of 5 eggsgamers perspective

Pros: price , can't beat it.

I thought this would be a LOT cheaper made then what it was.
I was pleasantly surprised, it's isn't made of the usual thin "tinny" stuff , this is actually decent metal,
Also worth mentioning ; the cables are long and have the 4+4 and 20+4 ends so you can use it on any mobo.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my backup gaming rig so I was looking for a deal , I certainly found one.
