An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 575 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution) at a great price. Could this be your next power supply?

5 out of 5 eggsLogisys Power Supply

Pros: Works fine, cheap, had all the connector I needed, doesn't look too bad.

Cons: Was unsure about it for a while.

Other Thoughts: My sons expensive name brand power supply went out, it filled up with dust and over heated I'm guessing. I was really tight on money and I used a logisys before that came in a case I bought and didn't have any trouble. So being very short on cash I bought this power supply because at the time it had the highest amperage on a single rail for the price. It was still working when I pulled it out to replace with something better. It's been running a lot of hours everyday for 1 year and 9 months. It was running a old nForce 4 sli mobo with a opty 165 and one 9800gt, single hard drive. Pretty basic system but it was more than decent back in 2006 when I built it. It worked out good for me and what I needed it for. I wouldn't use it for newer systems with higher wattage processors and big video cards or multiple vid cards. If you don't have nothing crazy for a system and are in a super tight financial bind like I was give it try.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It worked (for 45 days)

Cons: It would intermittently would run for a short time and stop. Tried RMA (only returns allowed within 30 days). Shipping to manufacturer cost almost as much as a new power supply. I recommend not buying from this manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsLow end office built.

Pros: Its cheap.

Cons: Low end.

Other Thoughts: This PSU is not for high end gaming PC's. Use this in a low to low-mid gaming rig or ELSE you will have issues. As I did when I tried to power my new r9 270 MSI with this PSU, it did not go well. When the GPU went under load the whole system would shutdown.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well enough

Pros: - Cheap
- Does what it's supposed to

Cons: - Runs a little hot
- Can only SLI if your GPUs require one 6-pin cable each
- The included power cable is not adequate enough, and under load it will become very hot. Recommended to get your own cable that can handle the amps.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had any problems with it yet, besides the power cable heat issue. Definitely worth the price otherwise.

4 out of 5 eggsBought in 2009 & it still works...

Pros: I bought this back in 2009, and it still works today (Oct 2015). For a generally lower end PowerSupply, I would say this has met my needs and on a budget.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsBargain that Wasn't

Pros: Price, but not really. I took a chance that the unit I got would not be a failure as many reviews could attest. Alas, mine quickly failed.

Cons: Failed after a few hours' use. Unfortunately, the computer into which it was installed is almost always not used. So, the failure took place outside of the 30 day return period. Lesson learned.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap and worked - for 6 years

Cons: died after 6 years

Other Thoughts: Hey not bad for a cheap power supply of this rating. Mine managed to last 6 years before dying. Guess I got my money's worth.
