5 out of 5 eggsGuess I'm one of the lucky ones

Pros: Price, low noise, decent power

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this to power the PC I built on 08/02/10, so far so good. I'm not a gamer or PC builder, so I bought this for the compromise of price v. power. I hope writing this review doesn't jinx me...

1 out of 5 eggsPSU Flatlined

Pros: N/A

Cons: PSU flopped with a spectacular electrical bolt shooting out the rear of my PC case, alongside a frightening explosion. Thankfully none of my other components were critically damaged (not so sure how they'll hold out in the long run).

I should have taken it out the first couple weeks I noticed the PSU making infrequent annoying high-pitched ringing sounds (I figured it was just a faulty fan, so I was actually waiting for it to die before returning).

If you ever start to hear this ringing, I would suggest taking it out before it's too late.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Corey, Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. Please make sure that your system doesn't go beyond 400W, if it does, it can overstress the power supply and cause failure. Please contact us via the Live Chat link below so we can arrange replacement. Respectfully - CMUSA Customer Support.

4 out of 5 eggsdoes-the-job

Pros: quiet, 400 watts does what I needed it to do in support of the MB & graphics card

Cons: none to speak of

Other Thoughts: nice big fan, but in some cases pressed up against a solid case housing plate makes it of little value.
An alternate set of mounting holes would be good, if it wouldn't add to the cost

5 out of 5 eggsOld Faithful

Pros: This is actually for the older 390w version that came with my Cooler Master case. I replaced it with an Antec 1000w about 3 years ago, which promptly blew up 3 months later. Put this one back in, meaning to replace it, and promptly forgot about it for nearly 2 1/2 years.

For those years, it ran my gaming rig beautifully with nary a hiccup, except when I tried to OC it even a little bit. What do you expect for 390w though?

Cons: Doesn't hold enough residual charge to keep BIOS settings after a power outtage for more than 10 seconds. Could also be an issue with the mobo, not sure.

Overclocking is nearly impossible, but keeping stock settings is no problem.

Other Thoughts: My gaming system:
Asus P5K-E w/Intel Core-2 Duo 3.0
2x Seagate HDD (RAID 0)
Asus 8800 GTS 640 MB Nvidia
Asus DVD ROM/Writer (IDE)
2x1GB DDR2 800 RAM (forgot brand)

This power supply ran this setup beautifully.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for low power systems

Pros: Great price!
Pretty quiet, better solutions for extremely quiet systems
Decent amount of connectors, PCI-E included!
Great for low power home servers/HTPC computers

Cons: Not the highest amount of watts/amps, but enough for this price

The pro is also a con though, there are better offerings (from the same company, coolermaster) for this price ($40)

Other Thoughts: I picked this up at a local store (some model #) for $30 on sale, what a great deal! I am using this for my E3200, 2GB, 4670, 3HDDs, and it is great! I use this as my home server/a computer for friends to play L4D2 when they come over, and it is on 24/7, running perfect.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Familiar name with good specs to price ratio.

Cons: Dead on arrival. Newly built system would fail to POST using this power supply. Used a different power supply and everything worked.

Other Thoughts: Not looking forward to paying for return shipping that is half the cost of the power supply.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced. Please contact our tech support so they can trouble shoot the PSU and of that doesn’t start up the PSU, they can help you with the RMA. We look forward in hearing from you.

Sincerely,
CM Team
