4 out of 5 eggsQuiet under moderat load

Pros: Really quite under load. I have dual Diamond MM 6970's in Crossfire that run very well on this PSU. Previous PSU was a Corsair Gamer Series 700w. Didn't cut it. Some vibrations in the HAF 932 that I use it in but that will be corrected soon with rubber stand offs.

Cons: Would like to see a better cable design. For the price of a 1kw psu I the cables are a bit tacky looking. I'll shourd them with sleaving.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat power supply

Pros: Big power for my system. The modular cables are FINALLY becoming long enough to reach their intended locations when using cable management inside a case. If only everything was like that. This power supply has been running a GeForce GTX 690, two 2 Tb HD's, one 1 Tb HD, 600 Gb WD Raptor, and my overclocked Intel Core i7-3820. No problems whatsoever. Cooler Master is a great company, not just for power supplies. They also make one of my favorite cases, the HAF-X.

Cons: None. Some of the power cables could be a tiny bit longer, like the motherboard power, which just made the length in a full tower case using cable management. But being smart about where the cables go is part of good cable management and everything reaches.

1 out of 5 eggsQA horrid.

Pros: None really, I only gone one to start for a short time. Though it was quiet for what that is worth.

Cons: Three DOA in a row. First one melted power supply tester and itself when testing an eight pin. Sent in, get it back, refurbished which I didn't mind. Stuttered on, then off. Sent it back in. Get the third one back, but I had bought an Antec to use which was working great and saw no reason to bother with the, once again, refurbished silent pro.

I decide to build a home server a year later, decide to try to use the silent pro that I had sitting around. Doesn't start when plugged into tester. I take a look at the 24 pin. One of the wires is missing. Not torn out by me, not damaged. Missing. Does not exist.

How does something like that make it past quality assurance? More importantly, how do you let something like that slip against a customer you already dissappointed twice.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, I regret buying a Haf case for this server since now I can't trust the company to make reliable products or even try to honor the warranty reasonably. I don't even really care to send it in, since I'm sure they'll send me another refurbished one that probably won't work either.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with our power supply. We are not sure what 8 pin you are referring to, but please make sure that if you are testing the cpu 8 pin, that you are testing the 4+4 cable coming from the power supply and not the 6+2. The positive and negatives are flipped depending on which one you use ( cpu 8 pin or pci express 8 pin). If the wrong one is connected to a system or psu tester, it can definitely cause damage. In regards to the 24 pin, the -5v is not present according to the ATX 2.3 standard from Intel. It has not been present or necessary in a 20/24 pin connection since ATX standard 2.0. For your reference, the ATX 2.3 intel standard will be linked below. If you have any other questions, please contact us.

Respectfully,

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: It delivers all the power you will need and then some! I love how it is semi-modular. And the braided cables are a nice touch.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy!

Pros: None

Cons: Purchased the 1000w silent pro bronze, had it for two months and then the fan went into high spin mode and wouldn't slow down. I didn't have the computer overclocked and all the voltages on the MOBO checked out. Being outside Neweggs warranty I contacted Cooler Master and told them what was going on. They responded by telling me to submit an RMA and send the item back in. They gave me a time frame of 7-10 days. I use this computer for drafting at work and I couldn't be down for that long. The other side is why should I pay for shipping to ship back a faulty product. I decided after I filed the RMA to go ahead and purchase another PSU, so that I wouldn't loose any time at work.
I went with the gold this time. I installed it in the computer and everything checked out. Had the computer on for 1 hour then shut it down to double check connections and voltages. Went to turn computer back on and it wouldn't start. Dumbfound I checked everything over and over. Luckily I hadn't sent in the original PSU with the noisy fan. I plugged it in and the computer turned right on. Of course I still had a noisy fan but at least I knew it wasn't the MOBO. This time at least it failed within NewEggs warranty period. By the way they are great to work with. Now I still have to send back the original PSU for a replacement. Will probably get a refurb, which is not really acceptable. But I have no confidence in this companies products.
Don't Buy!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with our power supply. Please make sure that when testing the 800W gold to make sure you have the 4+4 cable connected to the 8 pin cpu power connection and not the 6+2 pci express cable. If this is not done, then the power supply will not turn on. If you have any other questions, please let us know. The full warranty has also been posted for your preference.

Respectfully,

4 out of 5 eggsGreat, Half Modular

Pros: Cheap for a 1000w 80 plus gold and hav not had any issues after having it about a month.

Cons: it is not a fully modular power supply unfortunately. Even after purchasing I could not find anything on CM's site speaking to this, so now I have a bunch of bundled thick 4 pin cables tied to the bottom of my case blocking airflow.

Other Thoughts: Overall a great power supply, just unfortunate that it is not fully modular.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Solid power supply. No problems running it, modular, and comes with a nice little bag for all the cables and things you dont use. It's actually a sick looking package, AND the fan on it is actually very quiet. 80 plus gold certified.

Cons: None. Can't complain about a thing except maybe the price, but they do get more expensive when you buy a 1000 watt 80 plus gold lol

Other Thoughts: Would definitely recommend this power supply

1 out of 5 eggsThrow us the skull we'll throw you the whip!

Pros: Nice packaging. 5 year warrenty...(not really a pro, see below). Looks like a nice piece of equipment.

Cons: I've had this power supply for just under 2 years. About a week ago the fan started making sounds like an old car starting up.

I filed an RMA with Cooler Master. It's supposed to take 1-2 business days for them to get back to me. Four days later they say the RMA is approved but I have to send in my power supply first.

So CM thinks it's ok for me to be without my computer for however long this whole process takes? Wouldn't it be better for the customer (me, maybe you but I don't recommend it) for them to send me out a replacement first so I can swap out the power supply and have only the downtime it takes to do the swap out?

I called them and asked if there was another way. Maybe they take my credit card info so that if I don't send back the bad part in a few weeks than can charge me. No they don't do that.

Other Thoughts: I do my research before I buy. I buy based on people's experiences. If they have a negative experience I look at that to see why. I can't stand the people who rate something one star because it shipped slow. But when a person has a negative experience with a product and tries to remedy that issue I pay attention. And I can be brand loyal.

Cooler Master obviously doesn't care much about their customers because a. their product did break before warranty was over and b. they have pretty ridiculous expectations of what is acceptable. It's like those infomercials where they give you what seems to be a great deal for what turns out to be a peice of garbage that will break, but the cost of getting the warranty replacement is more than the original price.

Look for a warranty replacement CM 1000w (not so) Silent Pro Gold PS on a popula auction site in a few weeks. I'll be getting a power supply from another company.
