1 out of 5 eggsSteer Clear of "Cool Master"

Pros: 1 out of 2 PSU's worked.

Cons: Had to replace 2 PSU's. Opened both Cooler Master Extreme 2 525W units. First one worked fine, but the 2nd unit was DEAD, right out of the box. Returned for replacement, but was rejected because the box used to send it back was from the unit that worked. (Serial #'s didn't match and other box was already thrown out before learning of this little detail) Paid for the PSU and more for shipping to return the unit puts me out a lot of money for a broken PSU. Now I learn that they are shipping the defective unit back to me. I'll never buy another Cooler Master product. (For me or at my job, in which I buy all the tech supplies. I hope they enjoy my $$$. It's going to go toward another supplier from now on.) Keep in mind that both units were brand new. 50-50 odds when using this product.

Other Thoughts: After the inspections of the defective unit, they should have been able to tell that the unit was Brand New and not used.
Who would think that the wrong box from 2 identical products would get you rejected from getting a replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: Connector adapters

Cons: -PSU was DOA.
-Connectors are cheap

Other Thoughts: Friend bought this along with other hardware so I could build her new PC. The PSU was DOA. After seeing it and seeing the package, I was already scared, and having it DOA confirmed my thoughts. The whole build is cheap. Spend a bit more money and don't risk frying your pc with this piece of garbage... if it ever turns on! Don't even risk it, it's totally not worth it for this.

5 out of 5 eggsEvery Stress Test

Pros: Ran everything i needed it to run, perfectly and quietly. Massive overclock on my r9 270x (1300/1550) with i5 3570k both running furmark full load for hours.

Cons: Not Certified 80+

Other Thoughts: A lot of people giving this psu 1 star for DOA. But it's an excellent unit and is serving me very well.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for what i'm using it for

Pros: This PSU is actually powering a 500w 2 channel 12v AMP for a car. I have it running two 8in Rockford sub woofers that i use for high bass notes in my surround sound. Now that being said its has worked great for me, before I cut it up I had it in a computer for about 3 weeks running 24/7 just to make sure it wasn't going to burn up on me right away.

Cons: For computer use: I would not buy this for a computer unless it was like internet computer or something and even then there is much better out there. The cables sleeving very cheap feeling and the cables are not very long. You can find much better PSU for about the same money.

Other Thoughts: If you can spend the extra money and buy something better. You get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None, since it did not work.

Cons: Can DOA, first time with a Cooler Master. Newegg handled RMA fine but I lost $15+ on shipping it back.

Manufacturer Response:

Rico,
I'm sorry for the troubles with your Extreme 2 PSU. If you didn't already know, because we do see this come up in our support services, a power supply has to have a connection made in its 20+4pin motherboard cable in order for the PSU to turn on. We recommend testing the PSU hooked up to a system and turning on power through the motherboard to test whether or not it works, as just about any PSU will not turn on without a particular motherboard connection. I have also linked another quick testing method called the "Paper Clip Test" in the links below that can check to see if the PSU will at least turn on. Please do not uset his method to run the PSU for an extended period of time, only to see if it can power up.

If it is indeed DOA, though, I would either seek replacement through Newegg or you can request an eRMA with us at the link below.

If you have any other questions or need any more support, please contact us on Live Chat or submit a Ticket through the Contact Us link provided :)

Regards,
Kevin with Cooler Master

1 out of 5 eggsthe new junk

Pros: none

Cons: - cheaply made
- not true to it's rating
- sparks and fire

Other Thoughts: a friend of mine bought this junk from another store. CM has been selling mountains of their junker series psus for years and this is no different. here's a tip, the only two psu series worth buying from CM are very new, the Vangaurd and VS series. avoid all others.
