1 out of 5 eggsfaulty PSU

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: none so far

Cons: PSU leaking Current to case, shorting out Lan connection.
originally setup the computer and seems to be fine, but computer was crashing and restarting, trying to troubleshoot the problem and find out the this issue.
with the PSU power switch on the "OFF" Position
you can still feel the current on the metal part of the case.
took MB out of the case with cpu/memory, with the PSU, still shorting out the switch where the LAN cable is connected.
the switch power will turn off if the LAN is connected.
requested replacement last night and waiting for respond.

Other Thoughts: I guess i Got a Lemon this time and hopefully they can get it RMA soon.

5 out of 5 eggsCooler Master v650

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: Just as advertised. Replaced a terrible PSU (Logisys 480D), which is actually a 250w PSU. Fixed my problem with low 3.3v rail warnings and freeze ups, even at idle while drawing only 100w from wall. Much more efficient as well, saving power. Very quiet.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: This is a tier 1 PSU according to Tom's Hardware, and is a quality unit with a 5 year warranty. My old PSU was a fire hazard, and I'll sleep better with this one installed.

Update: 5 months on and still perfect voltage and completely silent.

1 out of 5 eggsIt gave up.

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: Okay so while it worked it was just fine. No whining or any problems however first boot dint work but second did and dint have that problem in the future until it gave up.

Cons: The @#$% thing gave up while I went to work one day. came back and what do you know MY PC IS OFF HMMMM? well I dint turn it off so lets see whats going on? After an hour of trouble shooting with a friend he said to buy a new one and try to switch it out to see what happens. Guess what?! Everything was where I left it. And this power supply left me! This power supply really just gave up giving enough power. It would turn on for a moment then back off. But Since the cooler master V 750 dint want to work I got the newest and hottest one out right now by a different brand. Im sorry but the V 750 dint make it past a year and thats beyond uncalled for. But you know what? Everyone will tell you the same thing. "Well not all parts are perfect!" Yeah well thats a great way to stay the same and never improve so good for you. And the saddest thing is i got this cooler master to make sure i had a good one. WEEEELLLLLL LOOOK HOW THAT TURNED OUT! 130$ short for a good new PSU and hours gone AND a well worn back from crouching over. Im sure its good when it works. but this psu just stopped and i cant be cool with that. Be warned my friend.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed within 6 Months

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: Nice form factor

Cons: Failed within 6 months of purchase. Unstable 12v rail that only supplied 1.88v at best. Would dip to under 11.6v while under load and fluctuate quite frequently (more than once every 10 seconds). You really want a PSU that supplies over 12v when not under load, and has a very minimal dip while under load. Also, power fluctuations wreck your components.

The Warranty. Cooler master CLAIMS to have a replacement at no cost to you with the gold guarantee. This isn't the case however. You have to ship the product to them, thus incurring a cost of about $10 for replacement. I realize this is industry standard, but I thought the gold guarantee was an attempt to go above and beyond. It isn't. Don't be fooled like I was.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 6 Months, Difficulty With Warranty

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: None. Well, nice form factor. I'll give it that.

Cons: Failed within 6 months of purchase. Unstable 12v rail that only supplied 1.88v at best. 4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: Great semi-modular power suply

Cons: The 8 pin and 24 pin connectors were just barely long enough to be routed behind in my full tower case. They were difficult to plug in because of this. Would be perfect if they were 1 in longer

5 out of 5 eggsCMV650 in Dell 8700

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: Perfect fit in Dell 8700 to replace stock 460w. I picked this up after researching the benefits of a higher quality PSU and to install a GTX 970 FTW 2.0. Pleased with how quiet the unit is working. Easy to install.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Rebate influenced my final decision on this one.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU...until it died

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: PSU worked for two months without issue, handled a GTX 980ti and 4790k without issue...until it died one day

Cons: PSU died after 2 months of light usage - tested the PSU on another PC and confirmed it was the issue...

2 out of 5 eggsWorks for now

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 - Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold Modular PSU (6th Generation Skylake Compatible)

Pros: - Pretty silent, but the fan can make some distinct noise.
- Compact, good for mITX cases.

Cons: - MIR are a scam and any company that uses them should be ashamed.

Other Thoughts: I was waiting for 2 MIRs from Cooler Master, both of which never arrived (even though they said they were sent). I wasted time, money and my barcodes for nothing.
Nor Newegg or Cooler Master care.
