3 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU, rebate not so much

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 – Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold PSU with Modular Molex/SATA Cables (Haswell/Kaveri Ready)

Pros: Replaced a failing OEM PS in a Dell tower. The new Cooler Master installed easily and it's semi-modular design has less wire mess. It solved the freezing and unexpected restarts that had been plaguing the machine. So high marks for the PSU.

Cons: None concerning the PSU.

Other Thoughts: I only gave 3 stars because of the REBATE process. Customers want good prices, but I think a lot of us are really tired of the mail-in rebates. Everyone knows this is a scam; legal...yes, but really sleazy...IMO. Let's see, Cooler Master can offer a cheaper price but pays a rebate company who uses a pre-paid Visa card issued by an unknown financial entity. I guess everyone including Newegg gets something out of the practice, or why would they do it? But to get the rebate, the customer must jump through precise hoops to apply for it, wait for a few months, validate the pre-paid Visa card and then use it...hopefully at some preferred merchant. Is it hard to see why customers might not like this. Is that the plan...more and more customers who just let the rebate die? Normally, I'm so turned off about rebates that I won't buy a product that offer them...even if they are cheaper, but sometimes I just really want the product and buy it in spite of the rebate. I will certainly think twice about buying another Cooler Master product. Too bad, because this PSU really works great. Also, I must ask Newegg why do so many products on your site offer rebates? Surely you must have some control here!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Fit

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 – Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold PSU with Modular Molex/SATA Cables (Haswell/Kaveri Ready)

Pros: Compact design, modular (worked out perfect only the mobo, cpu, and a 2 8 pin power are non modular which I needed those, the sata and molex are modular), highly efficient, plenty of power for a single gpu system
oh and a 5 year warranty!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for a mini itx build, and this fit in the coolermaster elite 130 perfectly and gave me some much needed room to work with. with the modular cables cable management was a breeze. I almost went with the 750 but realized that it had two pcie power cables that were both hardwired and since this is a mini itx build i only could use one and would have another cable to hide to i got this and it is powering an intel i5 4590, 8 gigs ddr3 1866 ram, an amd r9 280 asus factory oc (980mhz) card, 3 ssd's two high rpm fans and an led bar with no problem at all, Im sure it would handle a 280x or 770 just fine
Runs quite and cool.

3 out of 5 eggspsu fan noise

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 – Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold PSU with Modular Molex/SATA Cables (Haswell/Kaveri Ready)

Pros: probably the least likely PSU to short circuit and ruin everything

Cons: the fan makes this plastic like whirring noise, so you know when the computer is on, not detectable through headphones at least

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome 5 Year Warranty

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 – Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold PSU with Modular Molex/SATA Cables (Haswell/Kaveri Ready)

Pros: Extremely reliable, 5 year warranty covers shipping both ways, solid construction, compact design, long cables, semi-modular, powerful +12V rail, quiet with no coil whine. According to some reviews it's almost efficient enough to be Platinum rated.

Cons: Single GPU only (knew that going in)

Other Thoughts: There's an audible *click* when first turning on my PC, but it's not worth taking off an egg. I'm okay with the lack of SLI/Crossfire since I never plan on running a dual GPU setup, but it would be a nice option since there's enough power to run two low/midrange cards.

5 out of 5 eggsCompact, efficient, quiet

This review is from: Cooler Master V650 – Compact 650W 80 PLUS Gold PSU with Modular Molex/SATA Cables (Haswell/Kaveri Ready)

Pros: 1. Compact size and semi-modular design make it a snap to install.
2. Easily supports an overclocked FX-6300 and GTX 770
3 Dead silent.
4. Cool running

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I recently began having coil whine or capacitor squeal on my two year old Seasonic X560 gold. Kind of surprised me given the price I paid and the reputation of the company. I bought a Corsair CX750M and it was as bad or worse even though brand new. I decided to give the CoolerMaster V650 a try even though its a new model with no professional reviews and few user reviews. It is absolutely silent - even while gaming. I have a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 CPU cooler, high quality Scythe case fans and a Gigabyte Windforce GPU. All of these are quiet parts and I can't hear a thing coming from the power supply over the sound they make. Very pleased and relieved. Oh, I bought this from Newegg's big competitor up in Seattle, but I do own it! Definitely worth a look if you're looking for a solid, quiet power supply for a midrange, single GPU gaming system.

Main power consuming parts:
FX-6300 @ 4.5 Ghz
Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB (stock)
