3 out of 5 eggsNo longer made by Taiyo Yuden -- not the same

Pros: OK but not great.

Cons: Optical media is going the way of floppy disks. Sony's DVDs were always made for them by Taiyo Yuden, a Japanese company. If you bought Sony, you were buying the best.

Taiyo Yuden stopped making DVDs last Summer. The leftovers are off the market. Sony DVDs are now made by Ritek, a Chinese company. They are OK but nothing great. I never got coasters before, but now I do.

Other Thoughts: I would suggest paying the extra for Verbatim.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: None

Cons: Do not play in ANY standard DVD player.

Other Thoughts: These Sony DVDs are total garbage. That is probably why they are so cheap. I created 3 DVDS using good DVD authoring software, I tried them in 3 different DVD players and none of them recognized the discs. These Sony DVDs are not even worth the trip to the garbage can.

1 out of 5 eggsMany Coasters......

Pros: Famous name.......

Cons: Using these Sony DVDs, I had completed the 7th DVD of what would have been a 10 or 11 DVD 'multi-disk' Macrium Reflect disk image of my computer. The 8th Sony DVD failed, and that of course made the first 7 useless also. The next four DVDs off the 100 disk spindle would not write, and the fifth one started writing but developed a write error at 17% completion of the iso I was writing. Yes, I suspected my drive, but I went back to using my Imation DVDs and the drive works fine. Unfortunately, going on the Sony name, I bought two hundred of these fancy coasters.........

Other Thoughts: Very disappointing.

3 out of 5 eggsJust OK, some blemishes, but good deal on discs

Pros: Seems to burn, at least. Most of them, anyway.

Cons: I ordered 10 spindles, on a BOGO deal, in combination with a qty discount. I got them for $0.11495 / disc, which is pretty darn good. But that's nearly all that was good. Out of 10 spindles, 8 had broken bottoms, or at least broken shrink-wrap, and had loosened so the tops were free. The top three discs all had scratches and dust and fibers on them, as did the bottom two or so. (I transferred the discs from one of the damaged spindles, to some other spindles I had.) Some of the discs from the middle had blemishes and defects.
In my 14X LG Blu-Ray OEM writer, I normally burn all of my discs at "max" (16x). I burned a 4GB ISO to one of these discs, and Burn-proof kicked in, and it finished burning at 8.0x. Which means, it couldn't handle burning it at 16x. Hopefully that won't happen too often, or I'll have to start burning them at 8x.

Other Thoughts: All of my spindles were "Made in Taiwan", and show up as "RITEK/F16". These are Ritek's DVD+R discs. I've had good luck with the Ritek "Magic Silver" DVD-R (RITEKF1) discs, but these Sonys seem to be of a lower quality grade than Ritek's own-branded discs. That, or Newegg is selling second-quality stuff. (See Cons for defects, scratches, etc.)

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless

Pros: I went through the 100 without a single issue, and they were priced right, with fast delivery.

Cons: They just spin and record... record and spin.

Other Thoughts: I've always had good luck with all Sony products. Knock on wood.

1 out of 5 eggsSome of the worst discs I've ever ordered!

Pros: Cheap, got them on sale for about $16 shipped. Also had a newegg gift card to make use of.

Cons: Pretty much everything else. I have probably gone through nearly half of them and I would say that the failure rate on these discs are in the 20%-30% range which is completely unacceptable to say the least. I would advise to stay far away from these and spend a few bucks extra to get a better quality brand like Verbatim.

2 out of 5 eggsVERY disappointing!

Pros: Actually iin this situation I have no Pro's to list!

Cons: I purchased these because they were on sale at Newegg. The only thing I did not realize (now YOU will know) is that these Sony branded DVD media discs are made by RITEK (low quality). If I had known I would not have purchased them. Funny, but the same day I bought these "Sony" DVD's Newegg also had RITEK brandsed media for half / 50% of the price of these! Serves me right, since I usually purchase Taiyo Yuden, but they were not available. I can imagine how many coasters I will have (so far 3 out of 10). BEWARE!

Other Thoughts: Newegg should specify who the manufactuerer is. I understand that most blank media is made by the same manufacturer, but some are better others are worse. I have been using Taiyo Yuden media for well over 10 years and only had 1 coaster due to a problem with my UPS which cut power. Anyway, now you know!

1 out of 5 eggsvery high failure rate with Magnavox recorder

Pros: Good deals from Newegg. I bought two packs. They arrived intact and promptly.

Cons: Not dependable for recording. I bought two of these 100 packs. I used them on my Magnavox HDD+DVD recorder. There were only a few "can not record" ones of the first pack. The second pack was so bad that I would not dare to buy this product for my Magnavox recorder anymore. The "can not record on this disc" sign did not appear at the first few minutes. Usually after it had been recording with uneventfully for 2/3 of the disc, by this time I already wasted half hour on recording. Then I had to switch to a new Sony DVD+R , only to find out it might also fail. Very frustrated. I gave one star rating only because there is no zero star rating.

Other Thoughts: I wonder where I can return the unused ones to, Sony?
