5 out of 5 eggsRead the directions

Pros: Smaller than expected, attractive case, very easy to work on, comes with both USB and eSATA cables, quiet, and WORKS. Will likely order a second.

Cons: My fault. Didn't read the instructions on how to format a new drive. Took me three days before I circled back, so I learned something new.

Other Thoughts: Instructions also say to format a new drive using USB. I used eSATA instead as that is my intended use and it worked fine as well.

I went with an external enclosure so as to have better control over the quality of my backup drive -- as so many of the packaged external drives seem to report problems. This way I know what I have.

1 out of 5 eggsDifferent Chip Sets

Pros: See previous review

Cons: Must ship with different chip sets, as I've tried two different HDs, WB Black 1TB, and Seagate Barracuda 750mb with the same results on two different DTTV HD DVDRs, yet rosewill has been zero help, both drives functional (tested) and both are recognized on esata on newer laptops, yet others have had it work?

1 out of 5 eggsWILL NOT WORK W/DTV DVR!

Pros: like the enclosure, fan is quiet but?

Cons: WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED by HR21/24 DirectTV DVR! Huge waste of time and effort! Very disappointing! And according to rosewill support team they do not support adding to a dvr! And I "used to be" a big rosewill fan!

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice product

Pros: Comes with a esata backplate, cables, and a 110-220 V power supply which is great if you are traveling. Very sturdy construction. Just bought my 3rd one.

Cons: After a year of service the fan is getting noisy.

Other Thoughts: This is more to the manufacturer. Please add some rubber or plastic feet to the bottom of the enclosure. Makes it much more stable on furniture and avoids marring. This would save me a trip to walmart after purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Enclosure

Pros: I used this with a 1.5 TB Seagate drive and built a Directv DVR extender. The receiver saw the new drive, formatted it and now I have a ton of storage for my DVR

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsGood once the drive is installed

Pros: Looks Nice, Seems Sturdy, Fan, Constructed well, and ports seem pretty good.

Cons: It's a pain to change drives. I understand it needs to be sturdy, but 10 screws?!?

Other Thoughts: Works well for my purposes

4 out of 5 eggsHigh quality case, obnoxious LEDs

Pros: Very well made case. Drive plugs directly into a combined power/data connection for SATA style connectors.
Screws and other hardware provided.
Fan can be turned off.

Cons: Very bright blue LEDs are obnoxious and Fan (when used) is rather cheap and loud. (Minus one egg)

Other Thoughts: I had a drive where one of the 'keys' on the SATA power connector had broken off. This lead to poor connections with a conventional drive power cord. With the solid single-piece construction in this case this was not a problem. Saved a drive from the land-fill.

4 out of 5 eggsmy findings

Pros: This is a decent kit with adequate cooling. You get a USB and eSATA cable with it, and even an extra usb slot adapter in case you have run out of external usb ports. I have box of these but it was nice thought. The fan does not measurably drop the drive temperature and is really not needed since the open design of the product is more than adequate to keep even my hot drives cool. Installation is a snap and they are somewhat attractive if you like bright blue LED's.

Cons: The drive controller. I tried the eSata and USB connections on a variety of drives (Seagate, WD and Hitachi) on 2 different PC's with mixed results. One of the PC's has a JMicron eSATA controller and works well with any of the drives I tested. The other a Marvell controller that only the Seagate drive worked with. The Rosewill unit has it's own controller that goes into hibernation when the drive is idle. Depending on which PC controller it is connected to, which drive type, and which port (USB or eSATA) it may or may not wake up.

Other Thoughts: If you want to give this product a try, but one and test it with your configuration and drive before buying additional units.

5 out of 5 eggsWow ... great product

Pros: The case is very well built. Case comes with decent instructions and all parts necessary. (screws to hold drive, USB cable, SATA cable, SATA card for PC). VERY quiet running. I'm only using the USB connectivity, but I've had no issues backing up my entire computer to the drive in just a few hours (about 1.5 TB of data). Drive stayed cool due to fan. Very impressed with packaging and price.

Cons: N/A ... the product has exceeded my expectations.
