1 out of 5 eggsWorks for a week

Pros: Installed easy and looks cool and stays cool with fan on

Cons: I'm on my second product. The first one I purchased worked for roughly a week then started to make some funny loud noise. At this time the enclosure failed to be recognized by my cpu. I contacted customer service and they took care of replacing the order. My second enclosure came last week, I plugged it up immediately and everything was working fine again for several days. Then beginning last weekend the funny noises started up but only lasted for roughly 30-40 second bouts. At this point I started getting concerned but the drive was still being recognized by the computer so I didn't worry too much. Today however I kept receiving a message saying "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" and some extended message. I am about to call customer service and ask for a full refund and order some other product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Please contact us so that we can assist with your issue. It sounds like there may be something else going on if 2 different units are doing the same thing. Are you able to try the unit with another system to see if it does the same thing?
Thanks,
Rosewill Customer Care

5 out of 5 eggsgood enclosure

Pros: I got a couple of these for my company a couple of years ago and they work good. I didn't think they would last this long. We use them mainly for D2D imaging and they haven't failed yet. I probably imaged close to 1000 machines and done all types data recovery. I dropped one on the floor one day when my foot warped around the power cord. It survived but the hard drive didn't. Nothing in the enclosure was broken. Put in a new hd and went on.

Cons: The power cord always seemed flimsy and the fan is starting to die on one.
We use them so much for testing, imaging, and recovery that the hardware like the screws and stuff is starting to degrade.

Other Thoughts: I'll get some more of these.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works
It's straight forward to encase a hard drive. Can't mess up.
Had it since 2007 and it still works.
Solid construction (can carry and move with the hard drive inside with no problem)
Comes with all cords needed.
Works with both mac osx (usb connection) and windows xp and up (usb and sata connection)

Cons: Haven't dropped it yet so can't confirm if it's indestructible.

Other Thoughts: Blue led lights might bother some people.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure.

Pros: - Solid construction and good layout.
- Fan on/off switch.
- eSATA and USB cables included.
- eSATA bracket.

Cons: - Big and heavy, especially once you put in a high-capacity hard drive!
- External power brick - internal would have been better.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesom

Pros: Great sturdy case, love the LED blue lights, very heavy so its a good metal, seems to work flawlessly, only usin it for a 500gb i bought for a old pc that i no longer have so cant comment on if it supports 2-3TB. does very well, my desktop is 5 years old but does 20-25mb/s over eSata. very easy to install, doesnt tell u which screws are used for what but u can easily figure it out. easy to put to gether, seems reliable, great purchase.

Cons: None...maybe a lil better wire management on the sides but thats the least of my worries, does what i want it to do so as far as im concerned no cons!

Other Thoughts: love roswell products, got a Hdd case, and a USB wifi both works great for me, definitly would/will buy roswell agian, thanks newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsI have 4 of these now, all work fine.

Pros: Nice enclosure, easy to work with, reliable. I like these for the price and I primarily use the eSATA connection. USB 2.0 connection works fine also.

Cons: The internal connector in the enclosure does not line up exactly right with the sata connector on the drive, but I slipped in a thin washer under the circuit board on each side and that solved the problem. I think the fan is a bit loud, so I just leave it turned off. Drive stays cool enough due to the large round opening.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not boot/support my 3TB Hitachi HD

Pros: Looks Nice
Built in fan
Solidly constructed

Cons: Doesn't work with my 3TB Hitachi HD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145493

Other Thoughts: Purchased the Hitachi 3GB HD before the floods in Thailand hit for a steal by today's prices. I installed it in the Rosewill RX-358 v2 enclosure. It does not appear to spin up and when plugged into my PC running Win7 64bit Home Premium I hear the USB identification sound but no device appears in Windows Explorer. My FreeAgent external drive works on the same port as well as a number of USB 2.0/3.9 flash drives. It says on the title at the top of this page that this enclosure supports 3TB hard drives. I cannot independently test the HD by installing it internally as my BIOS is not a UEFI style, But win7 64bit natively supports 3TB drives with a compatible USB controller. Either way one of the things I bought from Newegg doesn't work, I just cannot say for sure what is at fault. I guess I'll try the HD in the Rosewill RX-DU100 docking station I ordered. Giving it 2 stars for build quality only.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
If you are getting that sound, then I'm sure that the drive is spinning up. You can make sure by removing the top of the enclosure and putting your finger on the drive itself. If you feel it vibrating, then the drive will be spinning up. If you just bought the drive and install it, then everything is working as it should be right now. The reason that you cannot see the drive is because it is not formatted yet. Your FreeAgent external drive comes pre-formatted from the manufacturer so all you need to do with that is plug it into your USB port and you're good to go. After you have the drive plugged in and you hear that windows recognizes it, go into the "Computer Management" window (start menu > right click "Computer" > Manage). Select Disk Management under the Storage option. You should see your 3TB drive there completely unallocated. If you don't see it, select the Action tab at the top of the window and click on re-scan disks. Your drive should show up after that. Right click on the unallocated 3TB drive and select format. Follow the instructions to format it for NTSF and after it is done, you'll be able to see if in Windows Explorer. You are also correct in that Windows 7 and Vista will natively support 3TB. If you are still having issues after that, please contact the Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at techsupport@rosewill.com.
Thanks,
Rosewill Customer Care

5 out of 5 eggsTop Notch Enclosure!

Pros: Very reliable! Rugged construction with good aesthetic appeal! I like the built-in 80 mm fan. This fan will help eliminate most of the heat related problems.

Easy to assemble (some minor assembly required). I own four of these and all are in use for over 2 years to 18 months.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: I have read on some of the other reviews that the holes do not line up for assembly. This is not the case. Whenever any device is assembled, the screws must by finger tight and all parts lined up. After that, the screws may be tightened (not over torqued) in a cross pattern gradually.

4 out of 5 eggsThe best. OK Almost.

Pros: Performance-wise, this unit is up there. Not as fast as internal SATA of course, but E-SATA runs as fast as other budget units I've used.

Cons: No vertical stand. Come on guys...

Not a con, but if you intend to be switching out hard drives often, don't get this unit! Get a docking station instead.

Fan is kinda loud too.

Other Thoughts: I see Rosewill has a new enclosure which seems to allow access to the fan from the outside (without opening the case). Probably worth checking out over this unit, but its also more expensive at this time.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Heavy, sturdy, well-crafted. Shiny. =) Removed two WD Caviar Green drives from the Essential line that included encryption that I could not get away from. Those WD Essential drives were a curse because they came with Smartware that I could not remove or fully disable--they also created non-stop "Error 51" issues in Windows XP. I moved each of two drives to this enclosure, reformatted, and then backed up. No more "Error 51" and an increase in speed, too! Well worth it! The drives are cooler, faster, and happier--I am, too! =) Got the enclosures on sale, too! Awesome!

Cons: Nothing to report so far.
