2 out of 5 eggsCP-UH-707

Pros: Other than that it is a very nice looking brushed black metal (aluminum) USB hub with a dim red light at the top--very nice build quality and aesthetically pleasing and a good deal at $20 or so with free shipping.

Cons: Not all the USB connections on this hub were powerful enough for my Seagate 500GB 7,200rpm portable hard drive in Rosewill enclosure to be powered by. Apparently there are 2 separate USB circuits inside of the hub and one of them provides less power then the other--depending on which usb connector you use it might or might not provide enough power to power a 2.5 inch portable hard drive. I did use the provided power supply to power the hub while encountering this problem. If you are buying this to power MP3 players then it's going to be plenty for you...if you are buying this to power portable hard drives then beware.

Other Thoughts: This is not a fluke--I have verified this problem by moving USB cable to a different USB connector on the hub and the problem is repeatable.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy I bought this

Pros: Elegant design. Strong construction. Subdued power LED. Connecting devices to ports is painless.

Cons: Base could be a little heavier.

Other Thoughts: This is a great little hub that I would- and have- recommended without hesitation. I bought this instead of the C***** T* G* branded model because I wanted to save money and avoid the glaring blue light others complained about. Unlike the I-***** USB hub I bought (which I still use and like, btw) hooking devices up to this is a snap. I've been using this for several months now and have yet to find a reason to complain. I would also have to differ with one of the prior reviewers about the company logo: I found it to be understated and not at all detractive to the overall esthetic.

2 out of 5 eggsOkay???

Pros: small and convenient

Cons: Cannot find a driver for this product so it will not work with my printers. Auto installed Logitech quickcam however........ I should have stuck with a well-known brand like Rosewill, Belkin, or Logitech.

4 out of 5 eggsSleek, good design, good performance

Pros: Good 2-piece design: base that fixes to a surface and hub that slides into the base.
Powered: comes a universal 5V power adapter.
Build quality: solid feeling, extruded aluminium shell.
Aesthetics: nice, sleek look to the anodized extruded aluminium shell and base.

Cons: Minor design flaw: of the seven type-A ports, four are on the back and three on the front. I would have preferred to see three on the back and four on the front.
This really, really should be a universal adapter.
Aesthetic flaw: the look is let down by a nasty CP Technologies logo on the top.

Other Thoughts: This is a really good product that could have been great. Only two minor flaws, as detailed in "cons".

I can live with the ports being laid out 3-front/4-rear, and I can try to ignore the tacky logo.

A great design feature, in my opinion, is the separate base that you can fix with double-sided foam tape (the kind used for mounting mirrors) or two screws (two small machine screws are supplied) to a desk or shelf, etc., then the hub proper slides into the base. I can leave the base fixed to my desk for everyday use, and remove it a pack the sleek, oval-section hub in my laptop back when travelling.
