1 out of 5 eggsOK while it lasted

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: At the time, this was a good priced 1300 Watt unit. It had good reviews. Unit worked well for 10-11 months.

Cons: Unit started to die last week. Connections in the 20+4 connection have come loose in the housing and are causing my system to see voltage irregularities and causes full shut down. Upon inspection, it's clear that connections are starting to pull away from the housing.

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: None that I can think of.

Cons: Ozone smell of electricity explosion!!!!

Other Thoughts: Still shaking from the noise and fright of the bright yellow blue color!

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: 80 Plus gold, all around great for price.

Cons: love how you can switch fan led lights color or simply trun off, wish the socket light had same feature, not a biggie.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Very nice modular design, fancy LEDs.

Cons: As the title says, it came in defective. First, my CPU showed major overheating problems and a few days later my entire PC crashed and woudn't reboot. Upon reinstalling my old PSU, the same problem persisted Now that I have a completely new mobo and CPU, I was also able to determine that my RAM was fried along with my old CPU, so buyer beware: back up all files before installing a new computer part, as I did. Fortunately, what I now have to replace the damage done is almost worth the money I had to spend to send this brick of a PSU back.

Other Thoughts: Very fortunately I was able to get a full refund, and it was processed quickly. So, there's that.

1 out of 5 eggsWas great, until it burst into flames!

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Loved the color LED's on the back. Came with a very nice case for all the cords. Provided plenty of power for my machine.

Cons: After two weeks I was playing Splinter Cell when smoke came pouring out of my computer case. Went to shut down and the there was a pop and the back of the power supply, where all the cords come out, literally caught on fire. I had to rip the plug out, rip the cover off the side of the case and blow it out. It looks like the cord that goes to my CPU fan was the one that melted. It also melted some of the other cables going to my video card and hard drives. Thankfully the power supply was at the top of my HUGE case so it wasn't close enough to damage any other components.

Other Thoughts: Got a different PS and haven't had any issues with it or overheating, etc. Called Rosewill, explained the situation, and they immediately offered me a refund. It's the first Rosewill I ever purchased and would probably try them again, but not right now on my new $2500+ system. I probably just drew the short straw for a defective unit, but still, it's a little hard to get over physical flames shooting out of my computer!

5 out of 5 eggsPlenty of juice

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Lots of power! Love the fact that you can connect only the needed cables to it and save on clutter inside your pc, great feature when you have a window in the side of your case.

Cons: Puts out some heat but any psu will do that.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Good psu for the money. It runs quietly and the cables are plenty long to run behind the motherboard in my corsair obsidian 800d

Cons: The 8 pin CPU motherboard connectors will need extensions if you want to run it behind the motherboard (but then again I've never bought a psu that doesn't need a CPU extension)

Other Thoughts: I've been buyin rosewill PSUs in all my rigs recently (I mine bitcoin with em) and I've never had 1 issue with any of them. The only thing with this one is the lights. U can't turn them off, so if u have a window in your case be prepared.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Partially Modular
Looks pretty
No Issues so far, but I haven't gotten my GPUs to put in SLI to really test it yet.
Lots of cable options to connect in the modular cables.
Has a zip up case that organizes all the modular cable connectors.

Cons: Each modular connector only lights up if you have something connected into it.
Power connector for MB is a little short which will make it difficult when I put in big GPU cards.

Other Thoughts: Don't know how I would have enough room to connect all those things to the PSU to get all the colors (at least in my mid-tower case).

2 out of 5 eggsRosewill Tech Support Deletes Emails Seeking Honour Warranty

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: See other thoughts.

Cons: See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a system build in late 2011. Cables covered in paracord exterior, with modular plug in setup. Cables are long preferably to reach devices in a big tower. Quiet operation, no issues until recently. It has worked fine up to earlier this year (2014), the PSU partially fried for unknown reasons and thus the computer would not turn on, and i state partially because, though there was a power cable attached to the PSU for power, it was still powering my cell phone charging from USB ports but no main power to motherboard other than mentioned. Tested plugs on powersupply and indeed main power was not functional.

Was more or less satisfied with this PSU unit until this mishap.

After the PSU burned out partially though about a month or so ago, i contacted "TECHSUPPORT@ROSEWILL.COM" for repair with limited warranty as advertised on NewEgg.ca ("Manufacturer Warranty | Parts - 7 Years limited | Labor - 7 Years limited.) and i did not receive any response for that email (which will make sense below). So a PSU was needed immediately and i replaced with a 1300 newer version of the Rosewill Lightning. So that has been installed and it's working so far. So back to the 1000W model by Rosewill that i'm reviewing here that fried on me. So i tried again to contact support at RoseWill.com tonight before typing out this product review, and this time around, when i sent both emails, i added the option to the email for "Request a Read Receipt"... and this was the return email;

------
Your message
To: ts.service.wh1(rw).us
Subject: RE: Seeking Honour Of 7 Year Warranty.
Sent: Friday, April 18, 2014 10:50:07 PM (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada)

was deleted without being read on Friday, April 18, 2014 10:58:48 PM (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada).
------

So i sent another right after this receipt of this above response, and again i got the same return email telling me my email was deleted WITHOUT being read.

Seems Rosewill doesn'care about standing behind their products (as in my case) but more about revenue generation than 7 year limited warranties. Sure the product is not bad at all, mostly good quality components, built well mostly, but when it breaks, don't expect Rosewill to always 'read' your email for product support which is quite angering & unfair practice nor return an email for support of the warranty because lamentably they don't even care to read your email, they just delete them as evidenced above. I bought another of their products (1300w PSU) only because i needed quick setup due to the electrical type connectors so it was an easy switch.

My next PSU won't be a Rosewill unless i have no other choice and they honour the original warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsHighly disappointing.

This review is from: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: NONE!!!

Cons: It took me a while to get all the parts for my build money was kind of tight at the time. but i finally got around to getting all the parts. everything is perfect till i hit the switch and soon fined out after much trouble shooting that i was sent a bad power supply. Clearly its way to late to get a replacement. I looked around and come to find out that I'm not the only one who got a bad PSU.
