3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat dissapointed

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Provides my computer with power...that's about it.

Cons: I have used Rosewill products in the past with very few issues, but I have had issues with this power supply since it's unboxing. At first, I couldn't get the pc to turn on. After some "tinkering" I was able to get the PSU to work. Once it finally fired up for the first time, there was a loud clicking noise coming from inside the unit. After investigating, I found a loose piece of what looked like shrink wrap inside. I removed this with a set of tweezers, and that cut down on some of the noise. The fan is still very loud at times. By the time I made up my mind that I should RMA, it was too late. I have been having sporadic power issues (restarts, drives not being recognized, random freezes and hangs).

Other Thoughts: Overall, I believe that Rosewill is a good company, but I was very dissatisfied with this PSU. For $189.00 I expected more...a lot more.

3 out of 5 eggsIt has worked perfectly up until now

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Great Power Output for price
Haven't ever been concerned with Power Supply Fan sound
Mesh cabling helps with management.

Cons: The price comes at the cost on not having a modular wire management. The excess wires take up three slots in my Antec 900 case that would normally fit HDD.

I've been using this product for over a year and a half and other than a few personal cabling issues, it's been fine.
But in the past few days, my computer has been experiencing anomaly shutdowns. I've had it happen while gaming, while it has been idol at the desktop, and while it was set to sleep. (Note: I have my PC and peripherals plugged into a UPS that hasn't given me issues with any other devices it hosts).

Luckily, I purchased a 2-year warranty with this product. If the hard resets continue after I bypass the UPS, I will have to RMA, which is kinda a pain considering I'm involved in some Programming classes.
Time will tell.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it has been good for me up until now, a 1.5 year mark. Hopefully the shutdowns I discussed in my "Cons" were just anomalies and I won't have to be out a computer for some weeks.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not meet advertised Power

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Nice design, compact, sufficient connectors. Also Newegg.com gets 5 star for superb shipping and post shipping customer service.

Cons: Keep in mind the 850 Watt is a combined power, among all voltages. However with 700 Watt on PCIe was not able to power up the 500 watt device, no matter how I split the load across the 12 volts (btw behind the case, then all connected in parallel at the source just FYI). I wish it worked because its really slick design and priced well. I used AmWatt tool to measure the currents, for my own sanity just in case. Hopefully this PSU was just one bad apple, but if it turns out to be the norm, Roswill engineers should really look into it to ensure its not a design flaw and not affecting their other products. Because I reallly like Roswill company and have been using many of their other product lines for very long time, usually as my first choice.

5 out of 5 eggsHas failed to fail. Owned since 2009. Always there when I need it.

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Dual rails. Solid. Never had an issue with this unit since I have had it. Has been through 2 builds. ALOT of connectors. Cords are wrapped for a clean look and wire placement.

Cons: Not really a con but, only recently has the LED's on the fan started to flash. Fan still running steady. Not Modular. had to tuck the extra cords under the drive bays.

Other Thoughts: First build powered:
Foxconn A7GM-S Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD triple core 2.8Mhz
3 Seagate Barracuda 500Gb drives
Nvidia 8800 GTS OC Upgraded to a GTX460
2DVD drives
Now powers:
Gigavyte 990FX-UD3
AMD FX8320 8 core
16gbram
GTX570(Sorry cant afford another one of those so no SLI tested)
3Seagate 500Gb HDDs. Now on a 250Gb ssd and a 640 WD Blue
2dvd drives
This unit has stood the test of time and what little torture I have put it through. My case does not vent the PSU very well and yet it keeps on chuggin.
I would buy this again. In fact I did buy a Rosewill Xtreme Series RX750-S-B 750W and it has proven to be a stable PSU as well.

1 out of 5 eggsloud and unstable

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Nice size to price ratio. Looked pretty sleek when I unboxed it finally.

Cons: It took me almost six months to get the rest of the computer and when I finally got everything and put it all together this one didn't work correctly. I had it in a simple setup with an AMD A10 6800K, asrock hudson board, and two harddrives. At first I thought the issue was a harddrive, but upon further testing found out that the one of the 12v rails inside of the PSU was not operating correctly. It would cause random shutdowns and at most times couldn't do a regular computer restart (had to completely turn off then back on to get screen to come up again. I've trouble shot everything including the video side of the CPU, everything pointed at this thing being the issue.

Other Thoughts: if you get one of these, be sure to get the replacement plan with it, I made the mistake of not getting any kind of warranty and now I'm stuck with an 850W paper weight. Not going to buy a Rosewill PSU again.

5 out of 5 eggsfinally died

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: quiet looks good and powerful

Cons: no modular cabling (well i bought this in 2008 with my first pc build)

Other Thoughts: i bought this in 2008 or my first gaming pc build. in 2010 i built my super gaming machine and gave my parents (who were running a 2003 dell with a p4) my 2008 build. today after 6 years of service it has finally died. impressive to say the least.

4 out of 5 eggsGot my moneys worth I think

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Worked great for about 3 years. Heavy usage. At least 15 hours a day or more.

Cons: Just stopped working one day after about 3 years of heavy use. I've seen PSU's last longer but I feel I got my moneys worth out of this one.

Other Thoughts: It's a good PSU. There's better ones but nothing wrong with this one.

Pros: Worked for 6 months

Cons: Worked for 6 months
Cables too short for a full sized tower

Capacitor blew out, took other components out with it

Other Thoughts: Poorly made PSU

3 out of 5 eggsNice For Some People

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: 850 watts, cool lights, and its made by Rosewill .

Cons: It's not modular which means it is hard to organize the cables. This why I had to return it. It would be great for some people though. :-)
