5 out of 5 eggsThank you, I'll have another.

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: Been running for 5 years strong. Cable mesh is nice and pretty.

Cons: Only con is that it's not a modular, you can't take out the cables. But if you take your time they are long enough to tuck and hide.

Other Thoughts: Led light not as bright as it was 5 years ago. The first RX850 I got (DOA) blew (and took my motherboard with it), I RMA'ed it and got another RX850. It has been working flawlessly ever since. AMD 3.2 dual core with 4 gigs RAM and 1G video card.

I'm using the same RX850 in a quad core build to save money, hopefully after 5 years it can handle a few more good years.

On a side note it would be nice to have a free replacement RX850 to account for the price of the new motherboard the first RX blew 5 years ago. (Plus the shipping for the RMA and the price I paid to have the rest of my parts tested.)

My purchase history brings up so many memories...

1 out of 5 eggsPower Surges?

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: Good wattage for the price?

Cons: When faced with a powerful graphics card, this PSU routinely deems graphics draw as a power surge and forces the system to shut down to "prevent damage".

Other Thoughts: I've disabled the surge protection in the BIOS so I'm 100% sure this PSU is the source of the issue. I would strongly recommend NOT buying this PSU if you are using a GTX970 or higher. The PSU may meet the minimum wattage, but it falls FAR short of supporting the build.

1 out of 5 eggsNo good Power Supply

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: None. First unit failed a month after I had it.

Cons: This unit is flawed. Purchased the first one, did not power on at all. Returned. Received this one. Wanted to upgrade my 600W power supply to this 850 Watt. Powered on computer it ran for 2hrs before failing. This thing SUCKS!

5 out of 5 eggs6.5 Years and still kicking

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: I have had no issues with this PSU. I bought it in July of 2008 and it has lasted through 2 machines. It handled everything that I have thrown at it. Had 3 8800GTS running SLI at one point, now running 2 GTX560s and bout to upgrade to a GTX 970.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I turn off my computer every night, maybe that's why it has lasted me that long? Give your computer time to rest!

1 out of 5 eggsfail to run any game

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: nice blue led light

Cons: newly built system (intel 5820k,gtx980, asus x99-a) shuts down when i start a game, any game. first i thought it was asus surge protector giving false positive but after turning that feature off same thing is happening. i should have chose other brand....

Pros: Very powerful for the price. Looks great. A ton of chords. Doesn't make alot of sound.

Cons: The plug in the back is extremely sensitive. If it is touched, the power supply will turn off.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted.

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: Great power supply for the money has more than enough cables for just about any build. and 3 year warranty from rosewill is great

Cons: while the amount of cables is great in my mid-tower they took up a lot of space and were not all that flexible to move around. Also, after having installed for 15 months the power supply died; however, rosewill did have a 3 year warranty on it and was able to replace it, but shipping isn't cheap. the new one arrived and after running for about 2 hours in my build met the same fate. I didn't want to challenge my luck a third time so I am switching to a different one.

Other Thoughts: While it worked it was great, however, after the second failure in less than 2 weeks.

1 out of 5 eggsIt will break within few months

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: The PSU is very efficient and handles Heavy Gaming like a charm, while it lasts...

Cons: Owned the Power Supply for around 6 months and it worked fine until it started shutting down my computer as soon as I started playing a game or started a Graphic Performance test.

The computer will boot just fine, the temperature will be good, everything is fine, until you start using the graphic card. 850W should be MORE THAN ENOUGH to handle a single nVidia GTX 780 ti card, but it seams like it can't handle as much as it is supposed to.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking forward to buy a PSU for a single card, opt for a more efficient PSU, and you might as well throw a few extra bucks for a better quality product, it will payback on the long run.

1 out of 5 eggsComputer restarts during games

This review is from: Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series - 850W Continuous @ 104 Degrees F (40C), 80 PLUS Gold, ATX 12V v2.2 & EPS 12V v2.91, SLI / CrossFire-Ready, Active PFC Power Supply - Compatible with Core i7, i5

Pros: Quiet, has a pretty blue light

Cons: I didn't notice any issues until I started playing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel a month after buying this. During any intense activity in the game my computer has a chance of immediately shutting off and restarting. There is no blue screen, no temperature issue, and nothing is logged in the Windows event viewer at the time of these restarts. I haven't had the time to test other graphics-intensive games other than Borderlands 2, which produces the same result.

So, I set up an RMA, paid the return shipping for a heavy power supply, and waited to receive my replacement, only to have it do the exact same thing happen again. This convinces me that there's an intrinsic problem with this supply, and it appears many others have had this same issue.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a 350W supply to support my new graphics card, and there's absolutely no way the extra 500 watts are insufficient to power the card. I cannot at all recommend this power supply, especially for use in heavy gaming.
