2 out of 5 eggsDied after about seven months

Pros: It did the trick while it lasted. I can also say that the return process has been relatively painless. Rosewill was quick to respond, offer some suggestions (or hoops, depending upon your perspective) to try to bring it back around, and then issued an RMA as soon as I had time to run through that. For this reason, and really only for this reason, I give it two eggs rather than one.

Cons: Not only did it die after seven months of normal use, it also took down the motherboard--and possibly the CPU and video-card, I haven't been able to test them yet--down with it. In fairness, the MOBO, CPU, and video-card are all from 2009, so I suppose I was due for an upgrade, but I was really, really hoping to defer it for another year or so. This little meltdown has already cost me some money as the machine it was connected to is for work, and I don't, yet, have a backup. Oh well. I guess it taught me a valuable lesson, in that regard: always keep spare parts on hand. I'm also out about fourteen bucks for the return shipping to Newegg. At least I was able to cram it into one of the USPS prepaid boxes.

Other Thoughts: This was actually an upgrade to an older PSU--a 750 watt Corsair from 2009. That was showing some signs of an impending death, so I picked this one in July of 2015 to replace that. I really wish I had gone with something a little closer, in price, to what the Corsair originally was. Beware the siren call of a low price tag.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid and reliable

Pros: Provides way more power than I need and didn't dim the lights when I powered it on the first time. Fan is ultra quiet.

Cons: The cables are a bit in the way and if you are someone that uses only SATA, this can be bothersome because there are only 4 and it seems they were put on upside down or something. Getting them on the drives and all the rest hidden was somewhat bothersome.

Other Thoughts: My only complaints are that there needs to be more sata and less molex connectors and the cables be modular but I'm sure that this is on a more pricey model. Still a great bang for the buck.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's great

Pros: Has all the power plugs required for modern gaming computers, as of 2015 anyway. I have a big video card, a SSD, a standard HD, a Blu-Ray player and burner, and I even splurged for a motherboard and processor. Everything runs great with power to spare. I could add a second graphics card if I wanted to. I don't WANT TO, OK? Stop asking. Thanks. Love you.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Not usually.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going!

Pros: Bought 05/30/2008, and 7 years later it's still kicking. What a great PSU; I have never lost a single component, experienced coil whine, or even smelled any weird smells coming from it. A child(my neice) even poured Soda into it, while it was ON, and it's still going 3 years after that incident.

Cons: The only con, is that I had to write something here for Newegg to accept this review.

3 out of 5 eggs2nd review

Pros: good. solid power with hd 6850 crossfire

Cons: so i upgraded my graphics to a 280x vapor tri-x 3bg card and it seems its too much for the 850 w psu i keep getting kernal-power 41 criticals in event viewer causing hard crashes in games and sometimes youtube. had issues with drivers on card for some games but never repeated hard crashes. i even lowered voltage a tad on the card to decrease pull. it seem to reduce the crashes a little but not much.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 850 watts. 80+ bronze.

Cons: Not a con but this thing is HEAVY compared to other power supplies I've owned. The blue light is also a weird shade of blue almost like an aqua blue or slight turquoise color, also it's not the brightest either.

2 out of 5 eggsSurging

Pros: Had all the connections I needed.

Cons: Computer shuts down and restarts. From motherboard detecting a power surge form power supply. Installed 5/2013

2 out of 5 eggsDead after 2 years

Pros: It was a solid PSU while it worked. Ran cool and quiet.

Cons: Died after two years.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Rosewill PSU to have died after only a couple of years. I do not recommend this brand.

This PSU ran fine while I was using a HD7870. It should be fine for last generation gaming rigs. However, I just bought a new GTX970 and the PSU died the same day due to the 970 pulling more amps than the 7870.

I recommend purchasing a different PSU if you plan on running any high-end hardware.
