2 out of 5 eggsI really wanted to like this thing..

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Fan is quiet, lights add a nice touch to the computer.

Cons: This psu only worked consistently for about 7 months. Recently while playing games, specifically Assassins Creed 4, my computer started randomly restarting. I figured out that my power level was dropping after a while and it would cause my computer to turn off then back on. I purchased an evga supernova 850w psu and the problem has disappeared.

Other Thoughts: I read many reviews on this psu before I purchased it and I have it a chance after seeing mostly good reviews. I wanted to like this product but sometimes I guess you just get a bad one. I'll probably keep it for a spare or a future lower power project.

5 out of 5 eggsSIX AND A HALF YEARS and still going strong

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: I bought this right at the beginning of 2008. It has outlasted three computers, each of which used SLI and heavy water cooling and overclocking, I just keep putting it in the new ones. Nothing has rusted, the fan is as silent as the day I installed it, and none of the LEDs have burned out. Just blow out some of the dust every three years and you should be fine.

Cons: There are no cons. It's a perfect power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsLong Lived and Still Kickin'

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Strong Steady Voltages
Looks Great
Lots of Plugs
Plenty of Cable Length (mostly - see Cons)

Cons: The CPU 4/8 pin power cable could be longer. Had this bottom mounted in an Antec 900 and it was a stretch to reach the board connector.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these in 2010 (4 years ago) for my computer and one for my sister. Both are still kicking and one of them I've just sold for a new upgrade. Have not had a single issue with these Rosewill PSU's. They are a great value and I would be more than happy to purchase them again.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome. More power than I needed.

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: I put this in my custom server and 2 years later and still going. For the first year it ran almost constantly 24/7, hooked up to a APC Smart UPS 3000. This unit pulls some power though. When I shut it down and only began using it on weekends I noticed almost a $100 drop in my electric bill per month. This was a server running 64 GB memory, and 5 - 1 TB SATA hard drives.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 7 months

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Quite.

Cons: CPU power cable is not long enough for a full tower.

Other Thoughts: This power supply started to cause my PC to reset constantly with no warning. At times it would work for normal use, but when a game was fired up, PC would restart. Heating is no issue. I ran many checks and constantly monitored. I replaced this power supply with another(lower 750 watt) and the problem is now gone. Hopefully I can get it repaired and keep as a backup since getting money back wont happen.

1 out of 5 eggsCompletely Disappointed

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Plenty of connectors. Usually almost more than enough for what you need.

Cons: Unlike other PSU's I've used in the past, this one has all of its cables coming out of one spot on the unit. Instead of just the power connectors with the SATA, fan and 6+2-pin connections attaching separately. Can turn into an ugly mess of unused cables pretty quickly if you don't organize them well.

Other Thoughts: I bought this PSU as a part of a completely new build and a huge upgrade over my old rig. Had never bought a Rosewill product in the past, and sadly never will again. This PSU came DOA. When my new build wouldn't start up I thought something else went wrong. Called ASUS and ran some tests to try and diagnose a problem. Went out to my local electronics store and bought a different 850W PSU of a different brand. Mounted the new unit, hooked up the power connectors, plugged it in, flipped the switch, pushed the button and now she flawlessly purrs like a kitten.
Since it's DOA, I will be returning the Rosewill PSU.

4 out of 5 eggsFour Years of Solid Performance

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: I purchased this PSU in December of '09, and it failed me today, May 31 2014. It was a rock solid power supply, delivering stable power through some pretty adverse conditions. I left my PC on for weeks, sometimes months at a time. It kept going through some pretty severe temperature gradients (ranged between slightly below freezing to at least 40 C).

It went months without proper cleaning at times, and came with more then enough cables to power my setup at the time of build.

It lasted 4.5 years, powered two different hot and power-hungry GPUs (GTX9800 and GTX 590).

Cons: It finally gave out on me. My SATA rails went first, corrupting two 2TB data drives and eating my linux install SSD. Then the fan gave out, and no amount of cleaning would get it to spin again. After that it was inevitable that it would shut down from overheating.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy another, if it was modular. I loved the blue lighting (though not the obnoxious flickering as it breathed it last gasps these past few weeks), as it worked great with the rest of the blue lighting that came with the case. As it stands, I'm going for an EVGA 750 watt PSU that's modular. The only other thing that made me hesitate to buy another is that I couldn't tell if the current listing was the exact same PSU I bought in 2009, or if the unit was refreshed but kept the same model number. If it was the original unit, I definitely would not have bought it, because I wanted a PSU that supported more modern sleep/hibernate states that newer Intel processors enable. If it was the newer unit, the only thing holding it back was the lack of modular cabling, a must have in my opinion.

3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat dissapointed

This review is from: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready CrossFire Ready, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply

Pros: Provides my computer with power...that's about it.

Cons: I have used Rosewill products in the past with very few issues, but I have had issues with this power supply since it's unboxing. At first, I couldn't get the pc to turn on. After some "tinkering" I was able to get the PSU to work. Once it finally fired up for the first time, there was a loud clicking noise coming from inside the unit. After investigating, I found a loose piece of what looked like shrink wrap inside. I removed this with a set of tweezers, and that cut down on some of the noise. The fan is still very loud at times. By the time I made up my mind that I should RMA, it was too late. I have been having sporadic power issues (restarts, drives not being recognized, random freezes and hangs).

Other Thoughts: Overall, I believe that Rosewill is a good company, but I was very dissatisfied with this PSU. For $189.00 I expected more...a lot more.
