3 out of 5 eggsWeak 12v rails lead to it's death

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: I got it on a sale and it looked pretty. Powered my system for as long as it was alive.

Cons: Worked for a few months then died a smoky death. The 12v rails are rated at a low amperage. I didn't know what rails were when I bought this. Had I known, I would have stayed away. Also, if you're gonna overclock, expect to not have this PSU for very long. However, it's fine to make a basic PC looks pretty.

Other Thoughts: A combined 31 amperage isn't much especially considering most CPU's also draw from the 12v rail now and can go up to nearly 200 watts if I understand correctly. Along with a GPU that's already drawing nearly 250 from a single v rail, it can quickly overdraw what it takes leading to a short life span.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Easy replacement, worked as it should.

Cons: rebates kill me! I hate rebates! Why cant they just discount it.......or give us an option to take 1/2 the rebate instantly.

Other Thoughts: It even lights up a pretty blue led color inside the case that no one will ever see....how cute

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little PSU

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Cheap and has been running non stop for 2 and a 1/2 years. Plugged it into my PSU tester today and it passed with flying colors. I have it powering a GTX 550ti, 5 250gb WD Black HDDs, an athlon x4 quad core overclocked to 4.0ghz, and 12 gbs of RAM. Buy this. You won't be disappointed.

Cons: The blue light was cool for the first year. Now it's just alittle bothersome in the dorm room at night. That's the only con I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsRosewill PSUs are always great

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: +Great quality.
+Price point.
+Puts out the power that it's supposed to.
+Connectors for most common drives/cards.

Cons: -none

Other Thoughts: This is a great PSU for the price point. If you're looking for something that puts out enough power for most low to mid-end builds, but doesn't cost a ton of money, this is a great PSU to go with.

I've always used Rosewill PSUs, and have never had any issues. If you plan on building a high-end gaming rig that you're gonna overclock, this may not be the best choice to go with, and you'll want to get something that produces more than 500W. However, if your plan is that you just want a nice PSU with a rig that you don't need to OC, then this is absolutely a great choice.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap cost, performs quality.

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Rosewill used to get kind of a bad name as selling cheap components. Last few years they have had some really great stuff, and this PSU was no exception. 500w so you cant run anything too crazy with it, but its powering my sons PC that has a quad core, ATI 5870 gpu, and 8gb of ram, 1 HDD.

Cons: Not many cons I can think of modular would have been nice, but I wouldnt have expected it with such a lower price.

Other Thoughts: Keep it up Rosewill

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality and safety control

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: The light at the back was pretty cool and quite pretty.

Cons: The fan was very loud, and after 10 months of medium usage, my computer shut off one morning because the power supply failed, and it fried my motherboard and potentially more, which means I now potentially require a full system overhaul because of this failed power supply. Additionally, the cords are quite stiff and very difficult to move around the case if you have a medium sized case.

5 out of 5 eggs500W Stallion Workhorse

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Normally I don't write reviews but I bought this power supply in Jan of 2010 and it has been providing juice to a very modest AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor and an XFX GeForce GTS 250 for almost 4 years virtually 24/7 with no problems at all. If you are just looking to power a mainstream PC then I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this one again.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For those that don't know, Rosewill is Newegg's house brand which have been known to be manufactured by ATNG (Extreme & Performance Series), ABS (Libetas), Solytech (Stallion), and Deer (Value).
