2 out of 5 eggsManufacturing error

Pros: Rosewill generally makes excellent stuff. This case, with one serious exception, is no different. My external HDD is formatting as I type this.

Cons: OK, here's the deal. The case is aluminum. Once the HDD is attached to the board, the whole assembly is supposed to slide into the end of the case, then four more screws secure the whole thing tight. Great design. The problem: Once the first two screws secure the HDD to the board, the unit will not fit in the case. Yes, I used the flathead screws to keep the heads out of the way, but even the bracket, as soon as it hit the case, got stuck. I tried another HDD that my micrometer said was a little thinner, got it almost all the way in, then remembered that once I pounded it in tight, I would never get it out. I had to go out to my auto shop and get BIG screwdrivers to pry the HDD back out. This lack of attention to tolerances is intolerable.

Other Thoughts: Although it's only a manufacturing tolerance problem of about 0.004", it's a deal killer when you're putting your new toy together, need to use it NOW, and it has a defect in materials and workmanship. I'm too busy to fool with an RMA, so I just left the first two screws out and it slid in OK

4 out of 5 eggsWell constructed

Pros: This thing is just really well constructed.

Easy to assemble. Just connect the drive to the rear plate, then 4 screws to secure it to the enclosure. The body of the enclosure feels solid, and the drive is secured in very well. The bracket that holds the enclosure vertically is padded so that the enclosure sits in there securely.

Cons: The switch on the back feels a little cheap. I'm sure it will be fine, but when switching it on/off, there's something about how it feels that makes me think it might be the first thing to fail. But considering that I'll probably switch it on/off once or twice a year, I don't think this will be an issue. It's probably nothing more than a perception, anyway.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I was really impressed with the quality.

5 out of 5 eggscheap, easy, works.

Pros: easy way to attach an old IDE drive (from a dead pc in my case) to a modern machine to pull the files.
small, fanless, decent looking, cheap.

Cons: no real cons. Can't really speak to heat disapation ability, sealed enclosure but aluminum...for normal use it should be just fine I suspect.

Other Thoughts: I stupidly tried to get a similar item from the famous auction site..bad idea. Never got it, got charged, contentious in several directions, still ongoing. ThenI ordered one from the Egg and got a great product in really no time at all, fast even for NEgg. Sigh, I should just go w/ the egg first next time, I know.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: had several 250 and 320 drives gathering dust and didn't want to use one of those cheesy adapters..these even are switched....was looking at a cheaper model and got email for these a couple days later at a better price.... thanks new egg

Cons: only con is drives fit really snug but helps in heat transfer though ... off/on slider switch is really cheesy BUT works don't know for how long

1 out of 5 eggs2 Cases Died in just over 1 year

Pros: Small, Aluminum, Easy to use.

Cons: Purchased 2 of these 1 year, 1 month ago. They are now both dead. The second one started showing errors, when I took the hard drive out there was a smell of burnt electronics from the controller board. The hard drive works fine in a different case (NOT ROSEWILL).

Other Thoughts: I have purchased a lot of Rosewill products in the past and liked their quality. Both of the Rosewill hard drive cases I purchased just over 1 year ago have died.

5 out of 5 eggsGood contruction for the price

Pros: Good Construction

Good Price (since this is made for an old technology)

Comes with a stand for vertical positioning.

Cons: No fan, but I was already aware of this.

Other Thoughts: A good way to bring an old drive back to life. I purchased this back in 2010 and it is still running strong.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Compact. Fits older drives. All aluminum shell. Easy to use.

Cons: Tight fit. Barely fit. Doubt I'll be able to get the drive out again. LED never worked for me. LED is in the back and the light portal is in the front?

Other Thoughts: Decent cheap way to reuse older drives.

1 out of 5 eggsDied too soon

Pros: Small

Cons: LED stopped working after warranty expired, 1 year & 1 month of very light use. This case & drive were used for twice monthly backups so the case stopped working properly after being used only 26 times.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the price

Pros: Easy assembly, had it installed, connected, formatted, partitioned and Deja Dup writing a full backup to it in less than 5 minutes. Ordered Sunday night, received Wednesday afternoon and with promo codes only cost $9.57 :-)

Great way to reuse old IDE drives sitting around from older builds. When my current laptop finally gives up the ghost I will purchase a 2.5/3.5 enclosure to re-purpose that hard drive.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: No problems with drive sliding into enclosure either, screws left plenty of clearance, just had to make sure cables were tucked to middle of tray.
