5 out of 5 eggsA Godsend.

Pros: I use this to turn all of my many formerly useless IDE drives into USB External hard drives that I then use for tons of storage space. Been using if for years now with no problems whatsoever.

Cons: It can't brew my coffee.

Other Thoughts: I haven't read any other of the other reviews. If anyone has experienced problem with this thing I would be extremely shocked.

5 out of 5 eggsSalvation for old HDDs

Pros: -Simple, straight-forward
-Everything lines up nice and tight
-Easy to figure out
-Salvaged my mom's documents from an old, long dead desktop (priceless)

Cons: -The case is so snug, that I had to unplug and reposition the wires a little in order to fit, no big deal. Don't jam it in, just make the ribbon cable do what you need it to, then try again.
-Initially, my PC could not recognize the drive. I had to look online to see what setting the jumpers needed to be in (which is "master" setting, by the way). Then it worked perfectly. A mention of this in the instruction manual would be a big plus. Maybe explain briefly different settings for different situations (if any). No eggs removed for these.

Other Thoughts: I don't really have an interest in actually utilizing a 75GB hard drive (or other similar low capacity) as an true external drive. But if you have old IDE hard drives (I have several) and wondering what to do, look no further. I have waning faith in these old, aging HDDs, but this thing breathed new life into it. Totally satisfied and thrilled.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid!

Pros: None as it does not work and came DOA.

Cons: I bought this item to get data off of an ATA drive when the enclosure it was in failed. I tried using this enclosure as slave and as master and it will not work with either one. The enclosure will power on the hd but the usb will be detected at all. I ended up using a Sabrent USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE to get the data off the hard drive finally. I would return it if not for the fact shipping would cost half of what I paid for this brick.

5 out of 5 eggsGot the job Done

Pros: Really nice case, super easy to install a HDD.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought this to explore several old IDE HDD's I had sitting around. None were worth keeping. I strongly recommend this brand if you have a need.

5 out of 5 eggsIt does what I needed it to do

Pros: Solid case.
Includes needed cables.
Doesn't get too warm (passive cooling).
Also works with 400GB and 500GB IDE drives too!

Cons: Two drives reported that they needed to be formatted and they shouldn't have (they contain data), but this is a Windows issue (MBR probably).

Other Thoughts: Ordered several for old (seldom used) IDE data drives. Use short silver screws for rails inside, then long silver screws to secure drive on side, and then black screws for back (in that order) and you can't go wrong. If one doesn't want to thread, it will work (don't ask me why) in the other hole). I'm not trying to insult anyone, but things sped up moving them in when I figured this order out (back black 2nd was a nightmare, LOL).

5 out of 5 eggsFor IDE, it's great

Pros: Very inexpensive for an external IDE drives -- Nice metal case and stand, long power cord

Cons: none ... works as specified ... all IDE drives are pretty old by now, so I wouldn't rely on them for my only backup.

Other Thoughts: I'd put the money in a new hard drive if this external enclosure was a dollar more. For the price, it's worth buying if you have an old, but decent IDE drive ... I have a Black edition Western Digital that I can trust for a few more spins.

3 out of 5 eggsIt does what it says on the can

Pros: Overall it did work, and the case is sturdy metal construction with a nice stand.

Cons: First off the manual is utter garbage. It's a tiny pamphlet, and half of the pages are dedicated to how to format the drive. The other half are basically "screw in the drive to the tray and good luck!". No mention of jumper settings, or troubleshooting. When I powered on the enclosure, the drive refused to spin up. After trial and error, I discovered that the power had to be switched on before the USB plug was connected, or it wouldn't spin up. You'd think that would have been something they could have spend 1 line in the manual on, instead of 500 warnings that the drive needs to be formatted before you use it.

Secondly, the enclosure is an extremely tight fit. You end up basically having to force the drive into it. The ATA cable and the power wires also needs to be folded over in order to fit into the enclosure. If you are planning on using this for a single drive, that's OK, but after multiple insertions and removals, I'm not too sure that this is going to stay in one piece.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Fine

Pros: Accepted 120gb Maxtor with no problems, nice finish, screws were right when I got them right (3 different pairs), easy assembly

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Looking at my stock of old IDE HDD, I wonder if I should have bought several more - but with flash getting cheap the decision point is about 30gb..

3 out of 5 eggsSolid But Warm....

Pros: Easy to swap drives, fast transfer speeds for IDE/USB 2.0. Got it for $14.99, which I think is a steal for a Rosewill. Silver color and shape matches my Rosewill eSata enclosures pretty well :)

Cons: No fan. Not usually a big deal but the case is warm to the touch, making me wonder how hot the actual drive is inside. Instruction manual is very uninformative as well, leaving out critical information when dealing with IDE drives.

Other Thoughts: NOTE: When installing drive, make sure jumper pin settings are set to MASTER, not slave like most enclosures.

^This was left out of the instruction manual and caused me to have to remove the drive for a second time :/ I swear by Rosewill products but I believe I will find a fan cooled equivalent soon.
