3 out of 5 eggsWorks and inexpensive

Pros: Works for me but I am using it as and external drive for Dish receiver. The receiver recognizes, initializes and reads and writes to it with no issues.

Cons: Had three from almost 2 years to about 1 1/2 years and one quit on it me. I think it is the power supply which is pretty minimal but the drive is still good and worked fine in another enclosure.

Other Thoughts: If you have this in some kind of critical service I would buy a spare because the life of the power supply may in question. They are cheap enough that this should not be a problem. I am not using this with Win10 so I cannot address those issues directly but when I was troubleshooting the failure I plugged the drive in an SATA port and since it was in a non-windows file system it did not get assigned a drive letter but it did show up in Disk Management so I would guess if it were initialized and formatted on a Win10 system it probably would work.

3 out of 5 eggsWindows Compatibility

Pros: Price, easy of usage, decent construction

Cons: Windows 10 issues, see below

Other Thoughts: The product blurb only indicates Windows compatibility up through Vista, but what about Windows 7 and 10? Well it's USB, so logic would dictate that is "should" be compatible, and so say so many in the Q&A section, but they might just be wrong. That's why I am writing this.

I pulled a 1 TB Western Digital HDD from Windows 7 PC - not that the brand and/or size matter, the point is the HDD had data on it - and installed it in the enclosure. Plugged it into my dual boot PC under Windows 10 and I could not see past the USB-to-SATA bridge in the enclosure. Therefore I could not see, much less use, the HDD in the enclosure. So I rebooted the PC under Windows 7 and voila I could see and use the HDD.

Did some Google searches to see if I could find some answers, and found a couple of good ones ... except, inexplicably the explorer window I had open to "This PC" - which shows all your drives - was endlessly spinning and wouldn't let me attempt any of the fixes. Interestingly enough if I turned off or disconnected the enclosure the explorer window settled down and all the windows I was trying to open/use then opened and/or populated.

I dropped a email to Rosewill tonight asking for help. Maybe a driver problem? The driver for the USB-to-SATA bridge is dated like 2006 ... Really! If and when I get a response from them I will see if I can add the results to this review.

In the meantime, I would have to warn Windows 10 users buyer beware. Perhaps my experience won't be yours, but I really don't think I'm that special. Windows 7 users? You are good to go, but you really ought to be upgrading to Windows 10 by now.

I only rated this product 3 eggs, and that is solely because of the Windows 10 issue. Had that not been an issue it would have gotten all 5 eggs.

BTW - I also have the USB-to-IDE version of this enclosure and I've had no problems with it under Windows 7 or 10.

2 out of 5 eggsYep

Pros: -Does it's job
-Easy setup

Cons: None, other than it simply stopped working a year and a half later...which is a fairly big con.

Other Thoughts: If I buy this kind of product, I expect it to last longer than just past warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Had for many years, works fine, no problems I can think of.....

Cons: Took off an egg cause its not the most aesthetically pleasing case, industrial design is functional but nothing special.

5 out of 5 eggsafter months of use still working great

Pros: exactly as advertised and shown

Cons: powering down on its own is unpredictable. sometimes it remains on spinning the disc while not in use, other times it powers down after about a minute when not in use.

3 out of 5 eggsNice Enclosure... BUT

Pros: Great looking, it works.
Put a 1 GB Hitachi drive in case.

Cons: Runs way to hot! I went to pick it up to move on my kitchen table and almost BURNED My Hands!
Way to hot. Going to damage Hard Drive.
Going to try vent holes first, it that doesn't work I'll have to add a fan.
I usually buy the bigger sized one with the fan, it runs cool even without the fan running.

Other Thoughts: Would not buy again.

5 out of 5 eggsServes its purpose well

Pros: Lightweight (without the drive) and easy to install the drive inside the enclosure.

Cons: Only USB 2.0 and I was unable to insert and tighten one screw. I don't know if there is some mis-alignment or what. But I have 0 worries about it being secure. The other screws hold is tight. I don't notice the missing screw at all. It really is a minor issue.

Other Thoughts: It is exactly what I expected and it works well.

5 out of 5 eggsThe enclosure works well enough

Pros: I've used this enclosure with my raspberry pi server for a few months now. So far it has worked fine. I love the fact that it has a power adapter (saved me some cash on a usb hub). I like the activity light at the front of it as well.

Cons: Maybe its just my unit but I had to replace the screws. For some reason some of the mounting screws they provided were really difficult to screw in and I almost ended up stripping them.

Other Thoughts: If you need an inexpensive HDD enclosure for a rpi server, this works.
