High-end PSUs usually come with high output capability, and therefore high heat generation and high noise level. It's not true when it comes to the Rosewill SilentNight PSU. On top of all the features you would demand from premium grade PSUs - such as modular cable configuration, generous +12V output and comprehensive protection - the SilentNight-500 employs a fanless design ensuring a completely quiet operation - your games, movies and music come to new life with every whisper and detail enjoyed the way it should be. A large heatsink with dense fins quickly and efficiently dissipate heat, while highly reliable Japanese capacitors and 80 PLUS Platinum Certification lower the heat generation and enable its fanless design. 5 out of 5 eggsIt's Silent :D

Pros: Does not make any noise.
Powers a system with a GTX 970 Strix

Cons: If you have a side window on your case you might not like that the PCI-E power cables are red and yellow.

Other Thoughts: My goal with my build was absolute silence and I reached it with the help of this PSU.

Specs: Intel Xeon 3.4-3.8Ghz (i7 4770 minus IGP)
ASUS Z97 Motherboard
12GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Crucial 512GB SSD

5 out of 5 eggsNever going back.

Pros: - Fanless.
- Fanless.
- Fanless.
- Did I mention...fanless? For those in pursuit of the ultimate silent computing experience, I am not entirely sure why you haven't purchased a fanless PSU yet. If you have, then you are in the know. If not, what are you waiting for?
- Seven year warranty.
- Sweet textile pouch with Rosewill badging that holds all the unused cables.
- Comes with rubberized caps that cover unused connections on the unit itself. I like this a lot, it's the small things that get me.
- Efficiency of ~93% between 300W load and up to nearly 400W. This is perfect for 99.999% single GPU solutions these days. Platinum baby!

Cons: - Tad pricey.

- Mounting holes for only one orientation.
- Would've liked black ribbon style cables for non-modular units.
- Employs annoying split connectors (20+4 ATX, 4+4 CPU, 6+2 PCI-E, etc.)
- Multi-colored connectors.

Other Thoughts: - Rebadged Kingwin Styker STR-500. Nothing wrong with that.
- Powers an OC GTX 970 and OC 4690K just fine.
- HEAVY. There is are massive heatsinks inside and out of this unit so this comes as no surprise.
- Since my PSU sits locked away in it's own compartment (Silverstone FT-03) I ended up attaching my own ultra-silent 80mm fan to the rear end of the unit as an exhaust. After being burned time and time again by lousy, ****tastic fans that come with supposedly reputable companies, I finally gave up and looked into fanless solutions. I do not regret my decision!
- PLEASE do research before purchasing a fanless PSU! Just because it is passively cooled, that does not mean it doesn't need any airflow. The reason why this thing has perforated mesh on 5 of its 6 faces is because companies design these things assuming that your case will supply some decent airflow. Take care of your baby!

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well, but only semimodular, and the VOCs...

Pros: No fan, no coil whine, and cables aren't too rigid.

Cons: I would have liked it more if it were fully modular, rather than only partly. The 12V/P4 connector, especially, is one that should not be integrated, to make routing easier.

The really bad part, though, are the fumes. A premium part like this should have those under control, or at least be packaged so that it can vent between the factory and your home.

Other Thoughts: If you already have a quiet PC, want that last step, and also want to avoid the Seasonic noises, it's hard to wrong for the cost.

5 out of 5 eggsAs silent as it gets

Pros: Completely silent, no noise, nada. It's great. Has plenty of modular connections if needed. I use it for my home server, so mostly it's just HDD's, so it doesn't use most of its power. But, no problems and the Newegg rebate made the price even better. Hasn't run hot at all.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsA truly silent PSU

Pros: -Absolute silence. I went and stuck my head next to my PSU albeit under very little load and I couldn't hear a thing.

-Looks good and it comes in all black, the cables are decently sleeved too to hide those nasty coloured cables.

-It performs like a 500w PSU but it can act as a 600w power supply too.

I use this in my PC with a reference EVGA SC 780 and an i5 2500k, both at stock clock speeds. I've never had an issue with power.

Cons: -I would have liked the whole PSU to be modular but the only non-modular cables are the 24 pin, cpu power and one 2x 6+2 pin pci express power. Not really a bad thing since these cables cover all your bases if you plan to build a PC with a dedicated graphic card. Not going to deduct an egg for it.

-Price is a bit high on this PSU but you do get what you pay for, high quality silent operation and a sleek look to go with it.

-You won't be able to SLI (unless you're running some really low power GPUs) with this PSU, but that's a given considering this is a 500-600w PSU.

Other Thoughts: Probably the best PSU I've ever bought, I'd buy another one if I were going to build another PC in the future

5 out of 5 eggsNice and Quiet

Pros: Plenty of power for home server application. so it's not powering a lot of stuff. just a couple hdd that aren't always going full bore, a couple case fans and the cpu/mb. heat dissipates well. That's as much a function of the case, I suppose, but it takes two to tango. I'm very happy with this. Had the rig on 24/7 for a few weeks. temps are good.

Cons: more power options/output would be nice, but passive cooling has a price.

Other Thoughts: I bought some standard 120mm case fans to go with this because they were rated well (quiet) by newegg users. it was a mistake. I should have ponied up a few more bucks for fluid bearing fans. but that's no reflection on this PSU. :-)

5 out of 5 eggsFanless = DEAD SILENT

Pros: - I can't hear anything!
- Plenty of cables for your peripherals
- has a rough-metal feel
- tiny bag included? I guess that's neat.
- The heat sink never gets warmer than your hand. (I do know that depends on your load, but for me its never hot.)

Cons: - only 500W, but for a system that's pulling an average of 40W, that overhead leaves room for expansion

Other Thoughts: Seriously, why aren't there more fanless PSUs for sale?

Fanless PSUs are far superior to any LED flashing, whirlwind creating, dust magnet, PSU out there.

5 out of 5 eggsWell made

Pros: Fan-less and silent. Well made. Many connectors. Good price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Running an i74770s using integrated graphics and many hard disks. Ample power because i'm using only around 75-80 watts.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is a KINGWIN STR-500, but cheaper and with a longer warranty

Pros: Power supply temperature is lukewarm running OCCT (a load testing application) and Assassin's Creed IV on an overclocked i7, an overclocked nVidia 780 GTX, 4 blu-ray drives, 2 hard drives, and two SSDs.

I've used fanless PSUs for years and wrote some of the first articles on how to build a "real" PC without moving parts. I've built high-end custom workstations since the mid-90's. So when I say this is the best power supply I have ever used by any metric (except max power output and price), you've got to appreciate how good a job the designers did.

Cons: As with any fanless and/or Platinum-rated power supply, the cost per watt is higher than lesser quality power supplies.

Other Thoughts: This is the KINGWIN STR-500, manufactured by SuperFlower.
Reading the reviews, this power supply is one of the two or three best ever manufactured for quality voltage regulation, ripple, load response, and can actually output 600W (not just 500). Some reviewers measured results which were merely excellent rather than top-3-ever, though that may be due to test equipment variation.

This is a highest-end power supply, to join the ranks of Seasonic and PCPower&Cooling's top-of-the-line. If you want the absolute best, and don't use more than two video cards in SLI, this is it.
