2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Runs cool. Sturdy & pleasing design.

Cons: Died after 6 months of use.

Other Thoughts: I have Rosewill RX35-AT-SU (usb 2.0 version) and it still works flawlessly after 3 years of continuous use.

1 out of 5 eggs100% Defective...

Pros: It did not try to kill my family...

Cons: Fragile, prone to DIE, 2 DOAs in a row. UGH!!!

Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy one of these. I have had 3 or 4 of the Roswell USB2 Enclosures that are identical to these save that they are USB 2, and they have been excellent. Something went sideways when they ported this enclosure to USB3 though, as they both had the EXACT same issue: They work for a bit, then have a power issue.

Wish I could give 0 stars, and as NewEgg does not have a very consumer friendly RMA policy, this may be the deal that makes me shop elsewhere, and remove NewEgg from my bookmarks.

Wake up NewEgg - this is a DEFECTIVE piece of hardware. STOP SELLING THEM!!!

1 out of 5 eggsCaveman Technology

Pros: It comes in a nice box.

Cons: Everything. This piece of hardware is so poorly machined that the act of assembling it with a drive inside renders the drive a permanent fixture inside of the enclosure. The best part is that while bench testing a drive the enclosure worked fine in pieces. However, the moment I slid the drive inside of the enclosure it not only stopped working, but somehow wiped the MBR of the disk attached. Ok, no big deal, it's a bad enclosure. It happens. I ordered TWO of them just in case this happened and had the same issue with both. Save yourself and buy any other enclosure BUT this one. I feel like it was designed and nobody ever actually took the time to test or look at this thing before marketing it. If you are unfortunate enough to have got one of these, DO NOT USE THE SCREWS FOR THE BOTTOM OF THE HARD DRIVE!

2 out of 5 eggsAs mentioned by others, USB 3.0 creates problems

Pros: Good looking, solid and works great as a USB 2.0 case. I have a WD Green 1TB drive in it and it works fine for my nightly backups...... as long as I'm using a USB 2.0 cable at 2.0 speeds.

Cons: Using with USB 3.0 just doesn't work. As soon as the drive goes to sleep it will not wake up. In fact, I have even had trouble bringing it back up at all (remove from PC, turning it off/on, rebooting computer). Sometimes it will take 15 minutes or more to get it back out of sleep mode before it is usable. The solution is to just get a USB 2.0 cable. Problem solved.

Other Thoughts: Buy it as a USB 2.0 device, not a 3.0. It does not work correctly as a USB 3.0 enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: There are no vents, fans or any other way to get in or out of the enclosure. It traps in heat; even with a slow 5400RPM drive, it gets very hot.

Other Thoughts: Go for the Rosewill RX-358, it is around the same price and is a lot better quality.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable. RMA and warranty policies clear as mud.

Pros: - Quiet
- Cold
- Solid build

Cons: Serious problems when connected to a USB 3.0 port. On USB 2.0 drives will occasionally go to sleep and the only way to wake them up is to flip the switch on the back of the case. It's recessed and certainly not convenient to use frequently. On USB 3.0 the drives constantly go to sleep. It really looks like the enclosure has a problem communicating with the operating system to wake them up. Sometimes drives will go to sleep in between computer reboots.

I contacted Rosewill tech support. They suggested using a third party open source app that keeps the drives awake by writing and deleting a file at a specified interval. They also suggested turning off sleep at drive and USB controller level. Problem is that the drives are supposed to go to sleep if necessary to increase their lifespan. Instead of the program I just scheduled a task that would write and delete a folder to drives and disabled sleep. Drives don't go to sleep as much but still do, especially in between reboots. After my last reply to Rosewill support that their workarounds aren't valid solutions they stopped responding back. Rosewill's RMA and warranty policies are pretty convoluted. They combined the paragraphs talking about the two but RMA and warranty are two different things.

I initially used the drives on older motherboard with only USB 2.0. I finally upgraded the PC to AMD Trinity with H4 and USB 3.0 hoping I could now get the extra speed without glitches. Guess I was wrong.

Other Thoughts: Stay away unless you feel like constantly turning drives off and on.

Weak tech support.

In the past I bought a couple Rosewill products, nothing expensive. Everything seemed to work fine but reviews always had a fairly high number people reporting quality issues. From now on I'm going to think twice and probably go with a different brand.

1 out of 5 eggsLike so many others.........

Pros: Looks good and seems to be of robust build quality

Cons: Doesn't work. It worked out of the box with my 1TB WD Green drive for about 2 days. Now, it goes to sleep at will and will only wake up and be recognized by Win 7 Pro every couple of days. Unplugging and plugging back in the power and/or the USB cables will usually do nothing to bring it back online.

Other Thoughts: In the rare case that Windows will actually recognize the drive; after it has been inactive for a period of several minutes it will refuse to work. It will still appear in the list of HDDs but clicking it will just parade you down the list of folders but will never reveal any files or make any noise suggesting it is actually being read.

As others have said, save your money.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 failed after a few months

Pros: When the USB 3.0 is working it's FAST otherwise it's a usb2.0 device

Cons: USB3.0 doesn't work any more bought in May by September it had stopped working. It dings when it's detected then immediately dings again like it was unplugged. I have another USB 3.0 devices works fine so I know it's not my ports. It works find on 2.0.
Runs hot too don't put this in a low air flow cubby.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after one year

Pros: Worked for a year.

Cons: Died after a year of very light use. Hard drive inside was no longer recognized. Tried swapping drives with same result. The drives work fine in my other enclosure.
