5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for what I need

Pros: Fast, takes drives of any size. Never failed so far.

Cons: The eject button is useless. Not worth an egg, because drives could be easily pulled out without it.

Other Thoughts: Never had problems, works well both with SSD and HDD. Didn't hit size limit yet (1.5 TB OK). Hot swap is functional.

2 out of 5 eggsFollow Up

Pros: it is ok for a usb 3.0 dock

Cons: one thing that is not documented is the unit will appear non functional if a drive isnt in it and the unit is not turned on. this is a major issue because it can make the drive act non functional. so plug it all in, put the drive in and then hit power button and when you remove the drive it powers the unit off. never had a dock that acts this way. next time i will go with vantec or thermaltake.

1 out of 5 eggsThere are better docking stations!!

Pros: I can't think of one!

Cons: The hard drives can be tough to push into the connection slots! Mine docking station failed after 14 months and only used it briefly about 4 times!

Other Thoughts: I would look for other docking station!

3 out of 5 eggsGood for testing drives

Pros: Cheap - was the cheapest USB3 slot loading dock when I got it

Fast - the few drives I've tested get speeds close to what they'd get internally over USB3 (110MB/s-120MB/s seems fairly common, depending on drive)

Slot loading - Easy to swap drives.

Cons: Drives don't feel real secure, and I can see how slimmer drives would "wobble"

Included USB cable is fairly short. I have my tower right up next to my monitors, but if I had it under my desk, I'd probably have to buy another cable.

Eject button more of a gimmick. Simply lifting the drive out causes it to come out just as easily.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it's an alright dock. Speeds are ok, but would have liked drives to feel more secure yet easier to remove. I'm afraid of knocking drives over if I so much as type too fast/hard, and the eject button is more of a place to hold down the dock so it doesn't move as you lift the drive out.

4 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 docking station

Pros: Fast, works well so far... The drives dock with a positive feel but see the cons.

Cons: As someone mentioned in a previous review, drives do not fit snuggly and can wobble back and forth. That cannot be good for the SATA adapters on the drives nor the dock itself. I have tried a 3.5" HDD and not a 2.5" HDD. It may not be as bad with the smaller drives, but there should not be any play in the dock. I have rigged a plastic wedge between the drive and the dock to take up the slack.

The power switch does not indicate if it is on or off. May not matter but do not want to plug in a drive and have the thing start spinning with a shock from the docking motion. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I am comparing this to my Thermaltake BlackX USB 2.0 dock which holds 2.5 and 3.5" HDDs securely and also has a positive spring loaded power switch. I have only used the Rosewill dock once so until I get used to the switch I will plug in the 12V power plug after I insert a HDD.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for backup: search these reviews for "corrupt"

Pros: Does what you expect. I use Windows 7-32 and Windows 8-64.

Cons: Does what you don't expect. Just as another reviewer here, I find it possible to corrupt hard drives with this. The partitions got marked as RAW and cannot be fixed with CHKDSK. Appears as though drive was removed at wrong time. But the removal poicy is set to Quick removal. (And I think safely remove never works on this?) The drives contain single partitions in NTFS but there's no recovering that data. Linux won't mount these, either. Maybe if I delete the partition table I can get a utility to rebuild it.

Other Thoughts: I find it necessary to power cycle the device between drives, or at least pull the usb cord. Am considering total shutdown/restart when changing drives.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Can read disks 3TiB in size. Button is now on the top instead of in the back like older models.

Cons: Only was able to read 3TB disks in some USB3 ports (smaller (500GB) disk was readable in all ports)

Other Thoughts: In one USB3 port I got
Error message was "usb 4-2: can't set config #1, error -110" with a 3TB disk (smaller sized disks in that same USB3 port worked). Switching to a different USB3 port allowed me to read the full 3TB disk. Weird.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Fast-Fast-Fast. What a great way to transfer files during a rebuild or from old to new drives. Have used on Laptop and desktop drives - works great.

Cons: Sometimes need to reset drive in and out of box to ensure proper contact. Be sure power is off to not damage drive.

Other Thoughts: Don't hesitate. Buy it. Great tool for any build, rebuild or transfer of files to a new machine. USB 3 is much much faster.
