But I guess the best thing about this enclosure is the adjustable 80mm fan. It's big enough that it can move a decent amount of air without too much noise, though I don't know for a fact that is what's actually happening. The fan noise at its lowest is quieter than my older 3.5" WD Black's clicks and constant hum, but louder than my 7200rpm WD Black laptop drive, if that means anything. Cons: The front facing blue LED is very bright in the dark and flashes with drive activity. I covered it with a piece of black electric tape that seems to fit in with the other black pretty well. If I was looking for a very quiet drive enclosure I would pick something else, perhaps without a fan. Or maybe stick to 2.5" drives? Other Thoughts: I gave this drive 5 eggs despite the mega LED because I probably would have covered it up whether it was bright or not. Did you find this review helpful? N/A 4/26/2013 4:44:26 PM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 4/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 1/5Dead in 8 weeks Pros: has an adjustable fan esata easy to install hd Cons: dead after roughly a dozen startups. fan works, hard drive will not spin up. tried it in a few other enclosures and the hard drive (thankfully), is fine. Other Thoughts: I bought two of these. One black, one silver. The black one is DEAD. The silver cannot complete an Acronis image without errors. I have a half dozen other enclosures and only the Rosewill completes with errors. I would recommend an external from WD, Seagate, etc.. By the time I add the cost of returning this for RMA at the manufacturer, coupled with the initial cost, I could have bought a WD with a longer warranty. Totally disappointed. Cons: The red power light quit working after about 6 weeks. The enclosure still works, but the only indication that it is on is the fan noise. Inside it has a WD 4TB Black and it recognized it on the spot. Formatted as GPT as one partition of 3.7TB. Using it for backups nightly with Acronis Backup 10 with no issues on a small bussines. I am happy it doesnt go to sleep like my other 2TB external drive I had, which killed its purpose of backups. Getting 65 to 75MB/s transfers internally drive to drive. Getting 100 to 110MB/s transfer over gigabit network from a shared folder on the usb drive to a windows ssd. The eSATA connection is unbelievably FAST. Enclosure is well built. Fan is quiet too! The enclosures are just what you will need if you are looking for a solution to your off computer storage needs. I have two of these with two 2TB hard drives inserted. They give me extra off computer storage space. I like the addition of the built in fans that allow for extra cooling that larger hard drives need and require. Great enclosure. Cons: eSATA does not allow for continuous running of these enclosures. They will disappear from under the Hard Disk Drive location when you display the Computer window. Other Thoughts: Although eSATA maybe faster it is a hassle to have to go to Device Manager and then have to search for hardware changes on a constant basis. Dump the eSATA and go with the USB 3.0, your drives will always be there and you won't have to search for them. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
