1 out of 5 eggsRosewill RDDO-12002 - don't

Pros: it is good for storing your hard drives

Cons: there is something wrong with the logic inside. it scrambles files within its purview and then makes various excuses such as the folder is empty or cannot be accessed or cannot be read. it will want you to format whatever hard drive it is picking on. fortunately for me, when i put the hard drive into another dock, the data is still there. don't buy this--it might give you an anxiety attack.

Other Thoughts: Rosewill makes otherwise wonderful hard drive docks as singletons. better to buy a couple of those than this dual one. i have a couple of Rosewill single bay hard drive docks and they are the best--never ever had a problem with either of them--totally reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks and Inexpensive

Pros: Used on 3.5 and 2.5 drives (nothing bigger than 1T so far).
No issues. W7Pro.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Just FYI, if you're using on windows and accessing a Mac formatted drive you'll need to load HFSExplorer to READ the drive. (I needed to recover some files from an old macbook device.) I don't think the free version lets you write to a Mac HD, but if you need to write why not just reformat the disk?

4 out of 5 eggsWorks pretty good

Pros: Works great, just make sure you read the specs. They say USB 2.0 so dont expect 3.0 also it DOES work dual eSata drives. I know cause thats how I am using it. It all depends on the computer eSata port supporting dual on 1 cable. I use it with my mid 2011 iMac

Cons: If thinking of hot swapping in windows be careful! I have had trouble in the past hot swapping and getting drive corruption. I now only swap out any of the drives while the power to the rosewill is off.

Other Thoughts: I would like to see a eggsaver or supersale of a usb 3.0 version of one of these external drive adapters for the same price I got this one for!

1 out of 5 eggsGone in no time

Pros: It works when it works.

Cons: Power supply went out in 5 months.

Other Thoughts: I only use the docking station may be once or twice a month, and the power supply went out in 5 months. So I might have use it about ten times and for the price that I paid, it's about $2 dollars per use. What a great deal!!!

Buy something more reliable.

4 out of 5 eggsAdequate

Pros: Inexpensive
Easy to connect/use

Cons: Doesn't recognize both hard drives, in eSata mode (on my system, at least)
[works fine, in USB mode]

Other Thoughts: I use for simple backups... in this manner, it works perfectly fine.

5 out of 5 eggsUnderstand what you are buying

Pros: Price, stability, eSata.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When it is attached as eSata it operates just like any other external Sata multiple drive enclosure. In other words if you want to access both drives your Sata controller has to be able to support multiple drives on one connector!
Also, it is the limitation of your controller that limits whether you can access a drive of a certain size.
If you want multiple, 4TB drives then buy a $40 Sata3 controller that supports that!

1 out of 5 eggsWow is this thing bad.

Pros: Stylish, sturdy and it came with all the cables you need.

Cons: Another reviewer mentioned that this somehow corrupts the file system of drives when using the USB connection. It did it with me on two Seagate 1.5TB's a WD 3TB and a Toshiba 2Tb drive.
Basically what it does is makes certain folders and files inaccessible until you run a check disk scan. This is annoying but it can lead to bigger hassle by corrupting the 'master file table,' which is what happened to me on one of the Seagates. Basically when this happens the drive becomes unrecognizable and unusable until you reformat the disc. Problem is though, if the drive has stuff on it then formatting the drive will wipe it.
Because the drive is inaccessible you will be forced to use a file recovery tool. Either fork over the $100+ to do yourself or pay someone else to do it. Either way once the master table is corrupted you have no other choice.

Luckily for me my brother in law had a Stellar Phoenix installed on one of his computers so all I had to do was take it over to his house. It took 4 days to retrieve the data on a 1.5 TB drive with the computer running 24 hours a day.
Once I got the files off I reformatted the drive and it's fine. Ran it through Seatools and monitored it for a week with HD Sentinel and it's fine. In-fact all the the drives that were throwing errors on this thing are fine. I'm no Sherlock Holmes but I do know that 1+1 always equals 2 and if 4 drives work 100% fine in other stations or plugged in directly then it's clearly this Rosewill docking station.

Other Thoughts: I was really starting to like Rosewill. I have three of their external enclosure and I really haven't had that many problems, although they are all using the eSATA connectors. But I'm afraid this thing has soured me on the company. If I do buy another one of their products it won't be something that can have an effect on critical data.

4 out of 5 eggsCame as a kit

Pros: Got this as part of a package which included 2 WD Green 2TB drives and the docking station. Great combo price. Had a little trouble getting the drives to show up. Once a little disc management setup was done, that issue was solved. I had it connected as USB3 but since have it as E-Sata. Sits under my desk and if it wouldn't be for the lights I would not know it was running.

Cons: Not really a con but.
Cannot set up in Raid. Not that big a deal to me. Really was a afterthought once i received them. Thought of making them into a NAS but it will not work easily.

Other Thoughts: I am using one drive as a backup disk. The other has my system image on it.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Works well with a 6 foot e-sata cable.

Cons: N o USB 3.0, but not really a con, cuz e-sata is better anyway.

Other Thoughts: I have used it to run backups and defrags on old HDD's.
