Pros: Easy to install a hard drive in this case. Product is made well.

Cons: Install this to a new ASUS Vivo running Windows 8. When you turn on the drive it ask you to format the drive. The drive does not format a new 1T hard drive. Removed the new drive and install a drive that I have used before. It would not format the old drive either. I took the enclosure and hooked it up to a windows 7 computer. It was able to format and install the hard drive on this Windows 7 computer.

Pros: Very sleek appearance and has a padded stand that can be moved around. The speed readout is great. No problems with USB 2.0 connections.

Cons: Cannot do USB 3.0 speeds consistently, which makes this useless as a USB 3.0 external drive enclosure. I tried it on two different PCs with USB 3.0 ports, tried three different kinds of drives in the enclosure, all formatted to NTFS while they were attached to the SATA III ports on the motherboard of the PC internally before putting in the enclosure, different ports on my main PC (some are Asmedia, others ASUS), uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for the USB ports, in Windows 7 Pro and in a fresh Windows 8.1 Pro and 10 Pro install and used the replacement cable Rosewill provided. None of these has resolved the issue. My 1Tb HGST USB 3.0 Touro drive copied over 80Gbs no problem, never dropping transfer speed the entire time on the same ports. With any of SATA III drives inside this enclosure plugged into the same USB 3.0 port results in random discconnects followed by immediate reconnect and the "what would you like to do?" menu when you plug in a USB device. This enclosure just can't keep a connection so there must be a problem with the board in it.

Other Thoughts: Obviously I am not the only one with this problem as you can see from all of the reviews and they've actually received another unit. I unfortunately am outside the RMA period with Newegg so I'm stuck with Rosewill support. Stay away from this enclosure!

Pros: The aluminum enclosure really does wonders for getting rid of the hard drive's heat; the same drive in my PC case was only 3-4 degrees cooler, and that's with a 120mm fan blowing across that drive.

The drive has a nice heft to it, so it won't get knocked over very well with the base installed

Cons: The enclosure will not connect at USB 3.0 speeds with anything older than Windows 8. See my Other Thoughts for details.

The enclosure sometimes disconnects after 5 to 15 minutes of having it plugged in. I had this happen five consecutive times while transferring games and recorded footage. After the seventh time reconnecting the drive (the enclosure could not be recognized the sixth time around, the USB light at the bottom was flashing constantly but the drive wasn't spinning), I managed to transfer all of the files before it automatically disconnected itself from my computer. Thankfully, none of the files were corrupted, but I would not trust this with backing up large amounts of data.

On a handful of occasions, the drive will power up as normal when turned on, but will not be fully recognized by the computer. The drive is visible as a USB device on the Device Manager, but it can not be disconnected or accessed from the window. The USB light on the bottom will flash constantly rather than stay steady when the device is fully recognized.

For whatever reason, the enclosure will not display one of the partitions on the installed hard drive (usually whichever partition holds the largest amount of data) unless the enclosure is powered down and reconnected. In the Device Manager window, only one of the partitions remain visible. Reformatting the drive does not fix this issue.

For the record, the same hard drive works perfectly fine when used as an internal drive. I've taken the same drive in and out of the computer to make sure it wasn't the drive causing all the issues. I don't have another working hard drive to test the enclosure.

Other Thoughts: If you plug it into a USB 3.0 port on Windows 7 without the latest UASP driver installed on your motherboard, it will NOT work at USB 3.0 speeds. It will get stuck at 30 MB/s, or 2 MB/s if you're unlucky. Be sure to check your motherboard's manufacturer for the latest USB driver update if you're running Windows 7 or older.

The optional base is slippery on almost every surface, so I'd recommend using putty to keep it in place.

The front surface looks nice, but it's hard to read the LCD display at any angle unless you're staring at it head on.

Cons: USB 3.0 works some of the time and others it refuses to work at all. It will work when plugged into a USB 2.0 slot, but the whole reason I bought this was for USB 3.0 speed. I've tried updating the drivers for the built-in USB 3.0, bought two USB 3.0 expansion cards, and replaced the cable, but still the drive will out of the blue decide it doesn't want to work as USB 3.0 - very frustrating and I can't recommend this enclosure because of it.

Other Thoughts: Is there a firmware update for this thing hidden somewhere on the Rosewill site? I would give this thing five stars if it would just work consistently.

Pros: Seems like a nice enclosure, well made, cools reasonably well for no fan, fit and finish are great.

Cons: The cables are trash. Bought two of these units at the same time. Only one cable would work and then it was intermittent. Had to put new cables on both units and they work fine now. DON'T BUY THIS WITHOUT BUYING NEW CABLES AT THE SAME TIME.

Pros: Worked well for a while, but came with a bad USB 3 cable which Rosewill replaced.

Cons: About a month and a half in use the enclosure completely quit working and tired to RMA the device, but Newegg won't take it back without the original box. It's a shame cause it truly is a beautiful enclosure.

Other Thoughts: This would of been the perfect add on for the Xbox One which I bought it for.

Pros: This power supply unit is very well made with lot of sata ports. It runs quietly and powering my 2 TB drives with no doubt. I hardly hear the fan either. It is powerful indeed. Love the cables with the package, saved my time to shop around for such. Nice informative step by step set up menu, it helped me to solve a few small problems.

Pros: The aluminum enclosure is made of great material and fit everything. This is exactly as described. The aluminum actually helps to cool down the drive a lot. It is not as hot even I have it runs for hours. I use it as my media serve in my living. It looks so gorgeous just by itself. Love the mirror front panel with LCD display. The drive works really well and fast so far for a few months. Great product and price. I will definitely buy again.
