2 out of 5 eggsBad Controller

Pros: Bought this so I did not have to keep opening my computer to work on Customers hard drives. Easy to just slide tray out and install the hard drive.

Cons: I got this and installed it 3 months after I got it. I used it the first time and had a bad hard drive for a Customer. I used it the second time and I was being told I had a bad drive again. The Model number in the CMOS was scrambled and not right. So I just told the Customer that the hard drive was bad. The third hard drive 2 days ago I was being told bad also. Now that is to much, so I removed the hard drive from the dock and directly put on the motherboard after opening case. It read the hard drive right, but it also deleted the partitions. I am out 2 hard drives that were good. Out labor for 23 hours for two systems and now labor trying to retrieve files off the current drive. Now I have to go through the hassle of getting this replace and be out postage and all and more time.

2 out of 5 eggsPlastic parts scare me

Pros: cheap

Cons: The lever to remove the tray is plastic. My brand new tray already had half the plastic hinge broken.

A new tray costs more then a whole new unit.

Other Thoughts: If they made everything out of metal it would have been great. The plastic bits are going to break with rough handling.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid construction... no issues so far.

Cons: Tricky to get the hard drive seated with the cables attached, but once you figure out how to fold the IDE cable and bend the power wires it is pretty quick and easy.

Other Thoughts: Installed 4 of these over the weekend, process went smooth and didn't take too long. Had a few issues determining how to "fold" the IDE cable in the tray so the hard drive would sit nicely. Other than that works great. I have a server case so plenty of room for the length of these units.

4 out of 5 eggsBest Rack in the Pack For Your Greenbacks

Pros: Mostly aluminum, easy install, has some heft and feels good in your hands.. Good fit (not loose or sloppy). No system problems.
3 position key switch - Power On, Power Off, Unlock
Great for light duty home offfice/small business use.

Cons: I have only two gripes.
* The plastic latch handle feels flimsy, like it might easily break, so I always feel that I have to be super careful not to break it. It is the only cheap feeling part of the unit.
* The front of the tray bulges outwards, so I can't close the door on my case all the way (leaves the door open 1/2 to 1", depending on the case). No door on your case ? No Problem !

Other Thoughts: If they improved the latch, and made the front flat and flush with the case bezel, it would be perfect for an IDE/PATA mobile rack
Make sure you measure the space available in your case.
This unit is not as deep as some I've seen.
"Measure twice, cut once" as they say.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Just Fine!!!

Pros: Low cost and it's made of aluminum and it also has a small exhaust fan both of witch helps to dissipate heat from your hard drive.

Cons: As said by other reviews, it is long. With my full size ATX motherboard, I had to use it in the top slot in my case with the DVD burner under it, but there is no issues loading and un-loading discs.

Other Thoughts: For the price and the fact that it's not one of those flimsy all plastic ones, it's a winner in my book.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Relatively good price for aluminum based enclosure, easy to install as manual was straight forward, took about 5 mins to get it ready to put in the case.

Cons: Size, this thing is VERY long, I have a full tower but for a mid-sized case I'd imagine this thing would extend all the way back to the power supply, definitely check the dimension of this product against the case it's going in prior to purchase, make sure enough room is left for cables to come out the power supply. The silicon pack in one of the packages I got was ripped, the little silicon balls were spread all over the inside of one of the enclosure, took me a bit to get them out, not a con on the product but the packaging.

Other Thoughts: I'm running 5 HDD (more to be added) in my computer and I bought 2 of this enclosure to put the two EIDE HDDs I have up in the optical bays away from the SATA HDDs, installation was a breeze and they worked on first boot. Make sure the correct Master/Slave is set prior to putting HDD into enclosure, it'd be a pain to change that once they are mounted in. I can't hear the fans on these enclosures then again I'm running 5x other fans in the case might just be covered up.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Drive trays are made of aluminum and the drive racks are aluminum and plastic. Easy to install. Just insert the rack into your case and attach with screws (included). HDD settins (Master/Slave/CS) are set on the HDD itself, not on the rack. Works great, not a single problem with any of the 8 or so currently in use on my system.

Cons: The rack is quite deep (long), so a little planning is needed for clearance and cabling. This can be an issue even on mid to full size cases. Also, a key is used to lock and turn on the drive which I find to be quite annoying. But since IDE drives are not hot swappable, they are likely attempting to reduce the headaches for those that don't know better.

Other Thoughts: A good value for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsNice product at a nice price!

Pros: Very impressed with the design as well as the look and feel of this item. Works very much as expected.

Cons: Does not say IDE on the front as does the Serial ATA version. It would be nice as I've got this one as well as a Serial ATA version in the same box. All I need to remember is the IDE one the one in my box that is not marked Serial ATA. Rather curious why ICYDOCK had not marked the front of these IDE ones as they did the Serial ATA and various other versions of this same cage they offer? Not really a hard core con...but aesthetic speaking it be nice.

Other Thoughts: I've had an ICYDOCK SCSI three drive cage for some time. So I was expecting the same quality. I have not been disappointed. This item is very cheap and well built. It is great to now have the convenience of sliding a hard disk in and out of the front of my box. I have many PC's and find myself often changing or upgrading the hard disk for one or the other. Not to mention the PC's I work on for others. Great design look and feel. This has certainly been a long time coming. No more pulling my case apart to patch a hard disk in to image etc. I have not had a chance to test the Serial ATA version as I've got that installed in the same box.

5 out of 5 eggsCorrections

Pros: .

Cons: .

Other Thoughts: I keep seeing people talking about these units and reducing the rating because it is difficult to get drives in and out of the removeable trays. They are NOT designed for that they are designed to install drives into multiple trays and swap drives that are maintained in the trays. If you need to momentarily connect drives (like to ghost them), get one of the simple quick connect kits that you can just connect to the drive without having to mount it.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I use this at work to swap hard drives for ghosting/cloning images to PATA HDDs. Works as expected. Great price.

Cons: Tray is definitely not designed to keep swapping in and out HDDs. Ribbon cable and Molex connector are difficult to remove from HDDs. Feels like it might break. HDDs get 'stuck' because of a lip. Plastic is a bit flimsy.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had any problems with it functioning. With a little duct tape and MacGyvering, you can make a tab to simplify removing the HDD from the tray so it won't get stuck. Being patient while removing the ribbon cable and Molex connector means it'll last longer.
