Poor enclosure
- Pros: -Metal Case
-Decent hard drive mounting
- Cons: Sata power and data cables provided are too short.
Good for IDE drives, ...bit tricky for SATA drives
- Pros: - Nice Lights, solid design when assembled properly
- Easy installation with IDE drives
- Not expensive
- Cons: - Its a pain installing a SATA drive (1 of the cables included is too short which forces you to these options...)
1 - buy a new cable
2 - flip the hard drive upside down (which means that you cannot secure the drive to the enclosure because the screw holes will be misaligned)
3 - disassemble the entire enclosure and flip over the circuit board (which is a project of its own because of all the lights and delicate pieces)
- Other Thoughts: I like the enclosure, mostly for the lights, but because this product creates extra work for SATA drives, it shouldn't recieve any 5 rating reviews.
Workable, but...
- Pros: Works well, compatible with both IDE and SATA drives. USB connection is reasonably fast. Attractive exterior. Inexpensive.
- Cons: If you're using a SATA drive, the power connector is about 3 cm too short. You have two options: invert the drive or invert the connector board. Either way, you have to contort the SATA cable to make it work.
- Other Thoughts: I'm not fond of the LED lights on the enclosure. They pipe blue light down both sides of the enclosure and flash when the drive is reading/writing. I'll probably disconnect them.
Also, regarding the short cable, if you only want to use this with SATA drives, get a different enclosure. There's no issue with IDE drives, though.
