Great little enclosure
- Pros: Reliable, sturdy, quality, eSata and USB ports, smooth operation.
- Cons: Have to screw the drive into the caddy to get a drive in the enclosure. Not a big deal, but a screwless solution would be nice.
- Other Thoughts: I actually have two of these, one for general external storage and one hooked up to my TiVO Series 3 as an external drive. That thing has run 24/7 pretty much constantly recording for over a year and a half with no problems.
Solid
- Pros: Needed a better encloture after several cheaply built ones i had died. I am very happy with the quality. It is fairly heavy for an encloture but for me it is a good thing. Inside I have a 500GB Samsung Spinpoint and it keeps very cool thanks to all the aluminum around it. It's very thick, which makes it heavy and sturdy. USB speeds are much faster than on my old Buffalo encloture I got speeds up to 36MB/sec coppying from and 30MB/sec coppying to, large files.
- Cons: The retractable feet on the bottom are cool but somewhat un neccessary. While I have had this for over a month, I am still woried that eventually the power connector will fail but with a 3 year warentee I think I'll be ok. It does not have an auto power off when you eject the USB.
- Other Thoughts: Over all this is an excellent drive worthy of the somewhat expensive price. Looking forward to this and swapping between inside and outside my desktop, parts of which I look forward to buying from Newegg! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198036
Activity light doesn't work
- Pros: Nice looking enclosure. Works OK for the limited use I give it (mainly manual backup storage of large folders)
- Cons: I have tried this drive on several of my home systems using Windows XP 32-bit and Vista x64. When the drive first powers up, the white activity (power) light briefly flashes ON then never works from that point on. I have to use a "sticky note" to show that the drive is ON so that I will turn it off when I power down my computer.
