Funky design but works well
- Pros: Good construction. Nice design for portability. I like the open style of this dock.
- Cons: Power button is too small and awkward to get to with drive installed. LED power/access light (in same place) is not easily viewed from different placements - its under the drive as well so if dock is much lower than table height cannot see easily. Open style is good for access/cooling but not as stable as "toaster" style docks.
If only the fan had stayed quiet
- Pros: Loved the enclosure even though some HD fit a bit too snugly but then the fan acted up...
- Cons: After using the enclosure for more than 4 months, the fan sarted up at its highest setting and did not shut down even though the temerature remained cool. The problem is that when the fan runs at full speed, it is loud. I eventually sabotaged the fan and now the enclosure runs a bit warmer.
great for builders
- Pros: Easy to use, not cheaply built, helps in situations where usually you would have to open up other computers.
- Cons: I love this unit but: if it topples over, drive will become detached. They should have added some type of clip or fastener, so after you insert a drive, you can make it a solid unit. You need to make sure noone bumps it, etc.
- Other Thoughts: As a computer builder and person with many, I am constantly needing to test drives. Also, install and test operating systems on different computers, to test hardware compatibility. This is the greatest! I only use eSATA. I confirmed Windows 7 x64 will work on all my machines, and know what drivers I may need to get, all because of this unit. Great idea, but could have been designed slightly better.
