3 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: I built an UnRAID file server with 3 hard drives from an old Dell Optiplex GX620, which wasn't designed for multiple hard drives, and the WD drive kept overheating. I bought this enclosure (along with another case fan), and it keeps the drive below 45C even when the drive is getting a workout. Because the PSU was old the Molex connector was actually perfect for me, although if I ever upgrade the hardware I could see this being an issue.

Cons: Even with this enclosure the WD drive still runs hotter than the other two hard drives in my server that are just air cooled. That's really more of a complaint about the drive I guess, but I kind of expected the enclosure to keep it COOLER than the other two. And yeah, the "lock" is basically just decoration.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Aluminum casing, well built. It's not very long so it fits well also in small cases. The led in the front are perfect, not too bright, not too dim. Overall it works as expected.

Cons: Fan is bit noisier than I expected, especially when I have 2 of them. I might have to replace them with something quieter or unplug it.

Molex connector! I had to buy an adapter because I like to keep cabling in order and didn't want to run another line from my modular psu when 2 sata connectors where already available in the right position.

I got 2 units, but the $10 rebate is limited to only 1 invoice or household

Other Thoughts: I got 2 of these to use with my 2 data drive I use in raid 1. Installation was nice and quick, perfect fit for the hd tray and the dock.

2 out of 5 eggsMolex Power - Unbelievable!!!

Pros: Overall it's fairly well constructed with a combination of aluminum and plastic. Smooth tray insert and removal. Low cost (but you get what you pay for).

Cons: A Molex power connector when everything about the unit is SATA. UNBELIEVABLE!!! HDD tray unit ships with has ventilation slots, additional trays do not which will have an impact on cooling. Time will tell...

Other Thoughts: If your installing into any newer machine be sure to order Item # N82E16812816038 power adapter. Also, check out some of the other manufacturers such as CRU before purchasing this unit, construction and overall design are much better.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Bays

Pros: Great for the price. I got a rebate when purchasing this bay that included 2 more trays (Icy should do these more often because I would rather have more trays then $10 back, considering the cost to Icydock must be about the same)

Cons: The lock, as another reviewer noticed, is pretty much as much of a deterent as a blinking light on the dashboard of a parked car is to a thief.
If you didnt know any better you'd think you couldnt steal it because its locked (alarm is on). In reality they could just pull the thing out without much damage or energy.
That being said-
I still think its worth it to the home user because if you are worried someone will steal your hd there, you already have a bigger threat of theft than just a hd.

To the Lan-goer: just bring antistatic bags and a back pack with you when you walk away. You'll still golden ;)

Other Thoughts: I make really long "Cons" statements when comparing them to my "Other thoughts" box.

Lesson Learned:
Live in a Safe Home!
Or they will steal your harddrives.

2 out of 5 eggsGood, but loud and not secure.

Pros: Drive trays are interchangeable with the Icy Dock external enclosure I already own. Well-made, except for the lock. Comes with screws.

Cons: The fan is bloody loud, and spins at a constant speed regardless of whether or not a drive is currently in the bay. When a drive is installed, it gets even louder.

Not a big deal for me, but the security lock is a joke. I inserted a drive and turned the lock, and was still able to remove the drive using only slightly more pressure than is normally required. At least nothing broke when I did that.

Other Thoughts: Because of the fan noise, I'm keeping the drive bay unplugged, which kind of defeats the purpose of a hot-swap bay.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: So far, so good. I got this to use with a 2TB Samsung Spinpoint drive for my weekly backup. So far it appears to be working great.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: This is really just the nature of 3.5 - 5.25 bay converters, but if your chassis has one of those hideaway flaps for the optical drive, you really can't use the hot swap function.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Able to take my icy dock drive to work using the external, i wanted a way to access the contents while at home! Now I can with this 5.25" internal bay. I just pull the drive out of the external enclosure and slide it in my desktop. no more worrying about the esata cable and extra power brick!

Cons: rails could be better

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Great for hotswapping and putting a HDD in a 5.25" bay.

Cons: Fan sucks, doesn't really move much air. The description of this item was found under "EXTERNAL ENCLOSURES'. I bought it on impluse thinking it was a portable HDD cage.... yeah, It needs a MOLEX power connector which clearly was my mistake but still, the description needs to be clearer

Other Thoughts: I tested the product, used it to benchmark and format a HDD i had laying around. Works great.

1 out of 5 eggsFried 2 hard drives

Pros: It would have worked with all of the other Icy Dock hardware. I have 1 computer with an ICY DOCK MB455SPF 5 bay and 3 computers with ICY DOCK MB453SPF 3 bay and a few ICY DOCK MB559 external drive enclosures. I bought this to install on another computer without a blu-ray burner so I could just move files from it to a computer with a blu burner.

Cons: I installed a drive from my ICY DOCK MB559US turned on the computer and nothing. It had a power light but no hard drive light. Took the drive out and put it back into the 559 and nothing. Moved the drive to a computer and nothing. Drive is dead. I thought OK drive may have just failed. Installed another drive and green light but no hard drive light and nothing. Removed hard drive and put it into another computer and nothing. Put it into the 559 and nothing. Drives dont even spin up. So this puppy killed 2 drives. Not a happy camper. Pulled it out of the computer and sending it back. Didn't work and I ended up less than Zero. See above if you don't understand

Other Thoughts: I’m sure I just got a "bad egg" but be careful and use an old drive to start with. I'll get to buy some new hard drives from New egg. Now I can get some 1TB to replace my 750GB's I lost.

3 out of 5 eggsEasy Access for Multiple Drives

Pros: You can use of those extra 5.25 bays that are just sitting there empty. Easy access with out removing the side panel on the case.

Cons: You have to screw in the drive to the rails, too time consuming. could have just used stronger rails w/clip-ins. More detail needed in the specifications on the design and more pics are needed that is why I only gave it three eggs.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to try another model with the LCD readout on the next one, but this did the job for what I intended.
