4 out of 5 eggsWorks...

Pros: Runs SSD drive, well designed in terms of the aesthetics and feel of it, tool-less access is a major plus.

Cons: Requires two cables to power and run it (both very good quality cables included)

Other Thoughts: not truly portable since you need two cables to make it work, but it does function and has good speed once you get it all connected. I'll keep it, but would prefer a model that simply connects with one cable and runs.

5 out of 5 eggsnice still looks good

Pros: replaced my passport case with this one, works good, no regrets

Cons: because it is older, it does not have USB 3.0, but that's a minor insignificant issue

Other Thoughts: if you want to use the E-Sata connection, you will need to make sure that your system isn't set to IDE, or you might need to reboot your pc each time you need to access the HD with E-Sata (this might differ for some though)

5 out of 5 eggscant beat the price

Pros: Easy to put together, everything lines up nice. So simple. Works and is pretty sturdy.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: never needed to use the second usb cord, the smaller one that is used for power. Also, I have owned this enclosure for about two years, only one drive in it the whole time, has never failed me.

4 out of 5 eggsNice enclosure, poor eSata cable

Pros: Nice enclosure (metal, not plastic for those following these reviews....it looks like plastic, but it's very nicely finished aluminum). Clicks together well, light, attractive, nice sleeve provided protects it. The cables are great EXCEPT for the eSata cable. It is too long, too stiff, and too heavy. I ended up buying a short, flexible cable from Newegg (18-inch for $5) that is perfect.

Cons: Included eSata cable not suitable for portable use. It would be OK for a desktop installation that is not carried around.

5 out of 5 eggsICY HOT

Pros: It works as advertised, installed a WD Scorpio Black 500GB, esata speeds, way better than USB, very nice and easy to use and set up.

Cons: none so far.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost a Winner...

Pros: *USB 2
*eSATA + Power over USB (cable included)
*Works as described
*Clean look + activity light

Cons: *The mechanism for swapping drives feels cheap and doesn't create the most enjoyable experience when you want to throw a new different drive in and get back to work.
*I bought this product because of it's swap-friendly design so I'm a little extra bummed that this solid concept is so poorly executed.

Other Thoughts: *Might just be my high expectations for IcyDock, but I was assuming this would be on par with my many other IcyDock enclosures. It's also been at least a year since my last IcyDock purchase- i hope this isn't an indication of the direction they're heading in.

*This isn't an awful product, but certainly not something I'm going to recommend, buy more of, or feel excited about using.

3 out of 5 eggsNice enclosure

Pros: Tool-less design. Quiet with sata II and usb 2.0

Cons: The drive speeds drop significantly when this enclosure is used. May not be so bad for backup, but I wouldn't use it as a primary drive. Speeds seriously drop compared with a 15 dollar "cheapie" usb 2.0 enclosure. Sata is better, but still speeds suffer 10% - 15% drop in performance when compared to other sata enclosures.

Other Thoughts: I like IcyDock. hopefully they'll release an updated firmeware soon.

5 out of 5 eggsOnly 2.5 External Case I buy

Pros: I don't usually take the time to write a review for a product unless it particularly impresses me and this is one such product. Great built quality and surprisingly solid. The ease of use is unmatched compared to numerous other SATA/USB enclosures I've purchased. The tooless design for the case is nothing short or brilliant. Anyone complaining that its cumbersome is simply not being gentle or attentive while swapping. Use a little care and it will be the easiest install or swap out you've ever done. It is probably one of the sleekest cases ever and the aluminum shell is much appreciated for support, durability, and as a heat sink.

Cons: There's cheaper alternatives, but the build quality and easy installation/swapping make this one most definately worth a little extra.

Other Thoughts: Purchase and be thoroughly impressed!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
