1 out of 5 eggsFrequent disconnects

Pros: Nice looking, and seemingly well made.

Cons: I am having to use it as a USB 2.0. device because of frequent disconnects when connected to a USB 3.0 port. As a USB 2.0 device I have not experience any disconnects. I have tried tinkering with various USB power settings, updated the firmware on the USB 3.0 host controllers in my machine, updated the host controller drivers, and will try a different cable once the one on order arrives. I have been in touch with technical support at Cirago and they suggested trying a different cable. They also expressed an eagerness to honor their warranty, so hats off to them. Firmware update was from 3.0.2.1 to 3.0.2.7, and this only made matters worse. The disconnects became much more frequent. The current host controller driver is 2.0.30. I also own a 1tb Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0 device and I do not experience disconnects with it, so I am relatively certain this is an issue with the CDD2000.

Other Thoughts: I will post an update if I have success when using a different cable or when I receive a different unit from Cirago.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised!

Pros: Supports 2.5 and 3.5 hard drives. No ejection mechanism to fail or jam. Manual toggle on/off switch - no electronic switch to fail. Small footprint.

Cons: The biggest downside, which is why I gave the unit only 4 stars, is that any drive inserted into the unit has no "side" supports to keep the drive from moving. The unit relies on the SATA power and data connector to keep the drive from moving. I will make a cardboard brace to ensure the drive does not move. This downside would only be an issue if you actually moved the unit with the drive inserted and powered on. Power cable could have been longer.

Other Thoughts: The biggest issue with these external SATA docks are the drives have electronics exposed to potential ESD discharge. This discharge could potentially damage the drive and dock. Using an ESD bag "cover" would resolve this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsCirago USB3 Docking Station

Pros: 1.Works as designed and advertised.
2. Allowed recovery of data and reformating several older SATA drives from laptops and desktops without having to put hard drives into individual external cases.
3. A value added upgrade in my case at a very reasonable cost.
4. Great investment overall.
5. Now I have extra hard drives to use, as well as many of my old files recovered and archived.
6. The docking station is very stable.
7. Came with a USB3 cable and UL power supply.

Cons: 1. None so far in installation, testing and actual use.
2. While not a "con", it would be nice if brick type power supply manufacturers would use a vertical format (e.g., plug in prongs on the ends) and the horizonal format to allow more of the power bricks to be simultaneosly connected to power strips without having to use cable extenders. Just a thought, guys!

Other Thoughts: 1. Don't believe the marketing's hypothetical data transfer hyperbole, as there are too many variables in place that degrade data tranfer rates.
2. USB3 is an emerging technology that still still being developed by reputable companies like NEC.
