The 1200W ST1200 from Silverstone provides the power you need for your most intense applications. It can continuously deliver the full 1200W at 80-87% efficiency. Six +12V rails balance your power load with ease. The auto-switching input can handle all common voltages so all you have to do is plug it in.

The power connectors are fully modular, letting you use only the connections you need. There's a handy carry bag for the extra cables; that way you'll have them available when you upgrade. The cables are all sheathed to de-clutter the inside of the case, enhancing airflow.

A 135mm fan on the bottom of the PSU moves extreme amounts of air to keep everything cool. The back panel is a honeycomb mesh broken only by the power plug and an indicator LED for virtually unrestricted airflow. Go ahead; build the system of your dreams, the ST1200 can handle it.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid during the warranty period

Pros: This ran 3 GTX 470 cards with an overclocked i7 and then an overclocked 6-xore Xeon for just over 3 years before it exploded. Upon its explosion with black smoke everywhere, it didn't kill anything else in the computer.

Cons: I bought this near the end of October 2011, and in the middle of April 2014, it died. I had even gone down from 3 GTX 470 cards to one GTX 770. The capacitors seem to have aged really rapidly.

Other Thoughts: It sort of makes sense that this exploded after the 3-year warranty ended because I didn't need that much power after upgrading to more efficient tech. I would have been very disappointed having purchased a power supply of more sensible output that died while being still able to run my latest tech.

3 out of 5 eggsBad fan cover

Pros: Works well, high wattage, modular

Cons: The fan cover holes are too big, making it easy to drop screws into it. Even with extreme care this has been a problem a couple of times, which makes me not happy.

Improving the design of the fan cover would improve this drastically.

Also, the fan placement is odd and doesn't really work totally in any configuration, which is a bit disappointing.

3 out of 5 eggsWarning about Silverstone PSU

Pros: - looks pretty
- seems to be of good quality
- heavy
- relatively quiet
- did not kill motherboard when it died
- someone at RMA department will help you eventually

Cons: - durability (lasted a few months)
- only a 3 year warranty for higher end products and 1 year for low end
- expensive when shipping cost for RMA is considered

Part 1:
I have an Olympia 850W unit in my client's desktop which died within a few months of light use. I have used exclusively C0rsa1r, Seas0n1c, and Ant3c PSU in the past and PC P&C recently for client builds. Thought it would be a good idea to try something new so I have more options in future builds. Bad idea. Was thinking about the 3 year warranty period and why not 5 like everyone else? The Olympia unit is on its way back to SilverStone in Cali and it seems they will send me another one of the same model which I am confident won't last any longer after some research.

Other Thoughts: Part 2:
It is a shame, because this same client, who runs an upscale internet cafe, wants me to replace 60 high end machines in his shop before Christmas. Silverstone has a few products that I am interested in for this project, but given its track record and my reputation at stake, I may want to be conservative and not recommend any Silverstone to clients for the time being. I hope Silverstone will not let me down again by sending me another defective product. If Silverstone is willing to make it right and send me a PSU that last, I will take this review back. Will see how this RMA goes.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Happy with Silverstone

Pros: Great PSU, works, well packaged. No complaints about the product that I wasn't aware of before purchasing.

Cons: I submitted all three labels from box with rebate package. I get this curt little snail-mail notice some weeks later stating that I provided "incorrect UPC label." Okay, $25 isn't going to devestate anybody's financial empire, but this is just insult added to injury after submitting a comprehensive rebate package.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. The label you sent in was Newegg's label, not SilverStone's so that is why we cannot process it. Since we process mail in rebates in-house, please contact us directly so we can help you get this sorted out. Our US office contact information is as follows:

5 out of 5 eggsREAD the PCIe video cable labels and match them exactly to the diagram on PSU

Pros: In reference to my last review, the PCIe video power cables have a distinct order that they have to be plugged into the PSU. You can plug them in the wrong order and you won't get the power you need for the watt sucking video cards and your computer will shut off if the video cards are benchmarked. My motherboards USB controller also got knocked out on reboot and stayed like that. Only clearing the RTC on the board fixed it. Resetting the BIOS did nothing.

Cons: This PSU is not idiot proof because the 8 pin and 6 pin PCIe video cables BOTH have 8 pin connectors to the PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsREAD THE CABLE DIAGRAM ON THE PSU OR ELSE

Pros: 1200 Watts
100% Modular
Compact
Silverstone

Cons: Unlike most PSUs that you can pretty much just plug modular cables in wherever they have a open matching female connector on the PSU.
NOT THIS PSU. THERE IS A SPECIFIC PLUGIN ORDER REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CABLES FIT IN A EMPTY CONNECTOR OR NOT. PLUG CABLES IN THE WRONG ORDER AND ALL KINDS MOTHERBOARD CHAOS WILL ENSUE. (ASUS P9X79 WS Revo)

Other Thoughts: Resetting the BIOS got me back to the Enter BIOS screen but ALL my USB ports were knocked out so I couldn't Hit F1 to get into it. I finally cleared the RTC via a jumper on the board and all was right with the world again.

READ THE LABELS ON THE CABLES AND MATCH THEM TO THE PSU OR ELSE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent but issue

Pros: Price per watt is exceptional.
Silverstone product.
Small form factor.
Possibly the smallest 1200w + on the market.

Cons: The cables.
A good power supply shouldnt have the odd cables.
Odd cables are the 6pin+6+2pin offerings.
The cables end up being too bulky.
Simple 8pin to 8pin would be much better for high end vga users like myself.
I found one issue while using the PS....if i use the 8pin my computer kept crashing when sli was enabled. Got a fix for it, see other comments.

Other Thoughts: Ive had this for 2+ years running sli but i was only using it with 4 6pin for my cards. Now i have gtx480's that requier a 6 and 8 pin. Power hungry cards. My fix for the crashing sli(gtx480x2) is to split the 8pin on the modular plugs. I was trying for hours and hours with this crashing problem when simply enough, all i had to do was separate the 8pin on the PS, I use the 8pin pci e on the left next to motherboard 8pin power and another to the far right for separation and all is well now. NO CRASHING after the separation.

5 out of 5 eggsBest PSU

Pros: It's perfect.

Cons: The mobo power connector could be a bit longer for those of us routing behind but it fit fine enough.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible- DOA

Pros: Modular, but thats about all it has going for it.

Cons: It was DOA. It took 4 hours to pinpoint the problem since it was providing power to the motherboard, but apparently not enough. Plugged in my old power supply leaving it to just power the hard drives and it couldn't even get those spinning.

Other Thoughts: If it worked, it might have been a good power supply.

4 out of 5 eggsGood PSU

Pros: stable power, lots of power.

Cons: Not 80-plus gold certified, but really it hasn't made much of a difference.

Other Thoughts: This PSU has been running my computer for the last 2 12 - 3 years. No power hiccups, no issues due to power whatsoever. For a non 80-plus gold certified power supply, this one has been good. Granted, I doubt my GTX 260 SLI setup is coming anywhere near the 1200watt mark, but its good to know I have the extra if i need it >:)
