You've just upgraded to an SLI or Crossfire video card, and now you need a little more power from your power supply. Silverstone just might be the answer to your need.

Rated at 700 Watts and greater than 80% efficiency, it also features RoHS compliance and active power factor control, making this one of the "greener" power supplies around. Whether you're running a server or you're a hard-core gamer, this power supply can do the job. Check out the specs for yourself and decide, but this could be the power supply you need.

3 out of 5 eggsCapacitors failing

Pros: Modular, quiet at first

Cons: As others report, fan becomes noisy. Easy to remove fan and lubricate or replace [135mm]. However, when open, I saw 3 capacitors bulging at the tops and split, with dried electrolyte deposits and one other bulging capacitor. So another example of unreliable capacitors. Caps in good audio gear last 20+ years, this is pathetic.

2 out of 5 eggsLasted about 4 years

Pros: It did its job well for 4 years. It stood up well to my intense system.

Cons: Choked and died on me just the other night.

Other Thoughts: I will find out soon if it took any components with it on the way out, I am certainly hoping that it didn't. I really did run this power supply awfully hard, played a lot of games on my comically power-hungry Radeon 4870 X2. If it died without harming anything else, then it was worth the cost. In my opinion, it should have lasted longer.

1 out of 5 eggsSame story as everyone else

Pros: Great Power Supply, while it lasted.

Cons: Disposable -- represents greed over collective good.

Other Thoughts: Died EXACTLY 3 years after I purchased it. Just stopped working.

I will go so far as to say it was most likely engineered to fail. Waste of resources. Won't purchase SilverStone again.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Ran great for 1,400 Days -- or -- 200 Weeks and 0 Days
While it ran it I enjoyed the psu.

Cons: Failed at 1,400 Days -- or -- 200 Weeks and 0 Days wasn't doing anything different. Just wouldn't power on again.

Other Thoughts: Ordered a SeaSonic x750 today. Lets pray it last longer.

4 out of 5 eggsFailed right after warranty expired

Pros: Powered fairly large system that's been on 24/7 for three years.

Cons: Failed right after warranty expired. Three years and two months - and it won't even power on.
How do they make these? How do they get them to fail right AFTER the warranty expires?? This is my second one that did it!

Other Thoughts: Not the quietest power supply - as it was advertised. And does generate considerable heat. But good for the three years it lasted.

5 out of 5 eggsServed me well for just over 3 years..

Pros: It was awesome, stable, did everything I wanted.

Cons: It died today. 1197 days of awesome, gone. Warranty only 3 years so I guess I can't knock an egg for that, it did last as long as they warrantied it for.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic supply!

Pros: I bought this back in 2008, and it's worked like a charm pushing clean levels of power non-stop for literally years. Definitely look at the Essentials Series model of this PSU since it's basically the exact same thing as this one. Well worth the money!

Cons: Cables are stiff as hell at first, takes a little bit of working before you can get them to move the way you want, afterwards, you'll love that you can kind of "mold" them around parts inside to fit snugly.

Other Thoughts: Mine finally died after going through basically 3 builds with ever increasing loads, most power supplies in this wattage would have given up after the second build but this one kept working until I got it into this SilverStone TJ06 case with 5 HDDs right under it. I suspect I cooked the PSU because it was putting out insane heat which I suspect was all the HDDs underneath it. Looking at upgrading to an 80 Gold 750w model, the modular plugs are EXACTLY the same which means as long as you keep picking up Strider series builds, you're golden, and they're just rolling out 1500s now, so in the future i'm set.

5 out of 5 eggsBest ot the Test

Pros: Stable Voltages - This was my most important criteria. It really surprises me how many "high end" PSUs do not measure well in this area. Not willing to risk the consequences of not having this (which eliminated the majority of other brands from consideration).

Silent - I never hear this thing. I used to think that the tri-speed fan that came standard on my Antec Solo case was pretty quiet, but that's because I never heard it over the fan on my previous PSU. Now the tri-speed is the only thing I hear and I'm thinking about replacing it with something quieter...

Cable Management - The cables are of generous length, and there is a very good assortment of them. This PSU is also totally modular so you can disconnect and remove any cable you are not using. Being modular was not a requirement for me, but it ends up that I find this very useful.

Cons: I can't really think of any. I'm impressed with this unit.

There is the lack of a mechanical power switch that some have mentioned. I must admit that I am used to having one and when I first noticed it, I was slightly taken aback. I wondered why they left it off and if I would miss it. Well after living with it for a month I can honestly say I have not thought about it one time until now. So turns out to be a non-issue for me, but those who have a switch on the back of there currently PSU and use it often should take note.

Other Thoughts: Took top honors in a PSU roundup by the leading HW testing site. Also got top product award for the year.

Efficiency - In my decision criteria it was not nearly as important as the quality and stability of the power being supplied, and it was somewhat less important than the other two PROs listed. That being said, this one is very efficient in the range that I use it and I do like that. It runs cooler (and quieter) than my last PSU which was a fairly expensive high-end brand.

As a side note - I have seen a couple of other PSU roundup reviews in which other Silverstone models were tops in the test in efficiency across every load range. In the test on this particular model, they made a comment that it was not up to usual Silverstone efficiency standards because it tested only average at a full load and superior at the other 3 levels. But like most people with a typical HW setup, I will likely never be drawing a full load from this PSU.
