1 out of 5 eggsAre you serious?

Pros: You can buy sleeved cables for it, thats it.

Cons: I ran a Silverstone Decathlon 850w power supply before i installed the Strider plus 850w, originally the Decathlon 850w started make a buzz noise even when running low end games like Call of duty 4, it wasnt that loud but annoying but i guess after three years of use its fine since it isnt as loud as this new Strider 850w.

Once i installed the Strider 850w in place of the Decathlon 850w the buzz noise got way louder. It is unacceptable for this brand new Strider 850w to be making buzz noises in such low end applications.

This is my third Silverstone supply that makes a buzzing noise. I read that it could be the fan but it only happens when under moderate load so its not the fan.

I called Silverstone about my Decathlon 850w's buzz issue and they said i would have to pay shipping both ways. I'm going to see what they say now about this Strider 850w's buzz issue, they better not expect me to pay shipping for their products own issues. This will most certainly be my last Silverstone Power Supply ever, its a shame as i own a Silverstone TJ09 case which is wonderful but Silverstones power supplys are just trash it seems.

I expect them to offer me something more then just free shipping on a standard rma as i have all the sleeve cables to go with this power supply.

Other Thoughts: Done with Silverstone power supplys, i guess i will have to go with another power supply brand that doesnt make buzz noises. Any power supply that makes this much noise is worthless.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Experience

Pros: Bought this unit in March of 2010 and it has been going stron ever since powering an ASUS Maximus 4 Extreme with a 2600K @ 4800MHZ-2 Corsair SSD's-3 backup drives-2 580GTX and 2 DVD burners.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: Have had zero problems with my fan like so many others,in fact after I read all these negative comments I looked to make sure my fan was turning and all is great.

2 out of 5 eggsVery bad fan quality

Pros: Do the job well in term of giving power to the pc.

Cons: The fan in this power supply is just garbage. I own this power supply since almost 2 years now and the fan started to make noise 8 months after my purchase.

What i did to get rid of the noise is simply turn the power supply up side down and re-connect my cables the other way. This little trick worked for 6 months and it started doing the same noise after.

Other Thoughts: Just go with another brand unless you like having a power supply doing a permanent tac-tac-tac-tac-tac......

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Modular

Cons: 2 months old and the fan is making a horrible ticking sound. No direct replacement 135mm fans are available and Silverstone won't sell you one to replace it with. Not worth the $20 to ship it in for Silverstone RMA.

3 out of 5 eggsTicking Fan

Pros: Power seems good, one to one cables for nice sleeving

Cons: Stupid caps on the cables need removed for sleeving. My fan is ticking, I have not tried to RMA yet, here is hoping they cross ship.

1 out of 5 eggsWarning: Search for Silverstone bad fan reviews before purchasing

Pros: Feeds power properly. Fully modular. Nice cable length.

Cons: The ugly lampshade in the corner of this product? The fan. You can find many many reviews online talking about Silverstone's struggle with inferior fans that fail quickly. I was taking a gamble getting this and i lost. The PSU worked fine for about 3 weeks and then the fan started clicking and has been progressively getting worse and worse. Unfortunately, i can't be without my PC for a month while dealing with Silverstone's purported horrendous customer support, so i'm going to have to pony up another $150-$200 for another power supply.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor. Don't take the gamble. Buy something else. It appears Silverstone has been having this issue for a while and has no wish to solve the problem by upgrading to better fans.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. The fan in the Strider Plus is a very popular model that is also used in many other branded power supplies. We take product defect very seriously and would be more than happy to help you replace it if Newegg is unable to. Our US office contact info are as follows:
