4 out of 5 eggsCurrently most powerful SFX PSU

Pros: It is the most powerful PSU that you can get in it's size currently, and if you want to run basically any GPU out there, you are going to need minimum 450w PSU, so if you are building, say, a gaming mini ITX sized computer, this is pretty much your only option if you want everything to actually get optimal power

it is indeed a very finely crafted PSU as I would expect from silverstone sturdy, and nice to look at in case it isn't possible to completely hide

Cons: no cons, it only has few connectors, but at 450w it is the exact right amount

Other Thoughts: The silverstone 600w SFX PSU has actually already been announced, however it is still not ready...

to put things into perspective, Nvidia's recommended minimum wattage for the crazy high-end Titan series graphics cards, just happens to be 600, and that INCLUDES everything else your system will be using

once these things hit the shelves, beastly mini gaming computers will be quite popular I think.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent PSU

Pros: The small size of this unit is especially great for Mini ITX cases, but even for larger cases, if your parts don't require too much power, this is an excellent option.

I am able to run a respectable gaming setup on this PSU consisting of a Radeon 6850, AMD A10-5700, 16 gigs of ram, and an SSD.

Cons: If you are putting together a powerful machine, you'll need to know the power draw of each part, especially the video card.

The PSU is not modular, so it might be tough to manage the extra cables, especially in a small case.

Standard ATX 450 watt PSUs tend to cost less than this SFX model.

4 out of 5 eggsPower Supply

Pros: Small, as a SFX ps should be.
Functions as expected.
Wire lengths give best cable management - they go where they go and nothing more.
Bronze efficiency.
$80 when purchased.
Has not died yet.
Any possible but hopefully unneeded repairs will be easy due to layout.

Cons: Will indefinitely break as all things do.

Other Thoughts: Good work, Silverstone. Thank you for providing us consumers with a cheap and efficient power supply.

1 out of 5 eggsFan makes crakling noise

Pros: small for factor

Cons: fan makes crackling noise . I've only been using this for 4 months.

Other Thoughts: While Silverstone offers 3-year warranty, I have to pay for shipping and I have to wait for who knows how long to get the unit back. Maybe not worth the hassle. I will rethink purchasing Silversone PSU in the future

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for buying a SilverStone. I want to appoligize for your less than satisfactory experience with the ST45SF PSU. Just as you had mentioned the unit does come with a 3 year warrenty against issues such as this, and the processing time from our US office is relatively quick, typically getting a response the same day. Essentially this means that the only time waiting is on the shipping process between SilverStone and the end user. Please feel free to either call the US office or email us at to begin the RMA process.
