4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: - very quiet
- braiding is quality on connections
- price is good
- very compact size for SFX 450w supply

Cons: - wish there was 1 or 2 more sata connectors
- nothing else really

Other Thoughts: Price is good, fit the case i am using (silverstone DS380) and is quiet, for now. I have only had the unit for about 1-2 weeks so we will see how it holds up long term. but so far so good.

4 out of 5 eggsST45SF 450W

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This is an 80 Plus Bronze Rated PSU.
SFX Form factor so it fits nicely in the Silverstone Raven case which I am currently using (RVZ02B).
Has some black wire mesh around cable groups.
Comes with screws and an additional plate that can be used to mount it where only standard ATX power supplies are supported.

Cons: Loud. The fan used to cool the supply is small and as such has to spin at a faster speed than the 120mm fan on the SFX-L version.
Price per watt leaves something to be desired.

Other Thoughts: You almost always pay a premium for compact components.
I expected this going in.
Still knowing this I wish it offered more for the price. Either being modular, have flat cables, or be 500w Plus Bronze rated.
I am aware that there is a 500w variant it however is more costly and is gold rated and offers additional features.

This currently powers without issue:
EVGA GTX 960,
Intel Xeon 1231V3 processor
1x Mushkin 120GB SSD
1x Western Digital 2TB Purple HDD
GIGABYTE GA-B85N Phoenix-WIFI Motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect size, power, and price!

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Small Form Factor
Quiet
Efficient
Affordable

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Even with very few options for power supplies this size (SFF), the price is perfect and provides enough power for an HTPC or even a Low-Mid Level Game Rig for your living room. Combined with the Silverstone Milo series Case, it's a perfect match. I did a review on the Silverstone Milo case as well, but have since updated the hardware... This is my setup

Case - ML07B Case
PSU - ST45SF 450W Power Supply
Motherboard - ECS Mini-ITX H61H2-I
Processor - Intel Core i5-2500
Memory - 2x2GB DDR3 1333
SSD - PNY 120GB SATAIII
HDD - Seagate 7200.12 160GB 2.5"
Optical - Slim slot-load DVD+-RW
Video - NVidia GTX 560 Ti
3 case fans

No problems supplying power even when under full load gaming. Although, in the interest of preserving the life of the power supply, I am replacing the GTX 560 Ti with a GTX 750 Ti... Same performance, but much less power consumption.

Many people might complain that this PSU is "not" modular... My thoughts on that...
First - there is a modular variant, but of course you have to pay extra for "features", so it should not be listed as a "con".
Second - Modular PSU's are good and bad... sure you only need to connect the number of lines that are necessary... but if you need to use most of the connections, it gets just as crowded in your case as bundling the remaining wires from a standard PSU because now you have a thick array of wires coming out of your PSU, instead of a tightly bundled group...
I think Modular PSU's are great... if you actually only use 1-3 power leads... anything beyond that and you've wasted your money, imho... just save some bucks, get a standard PSU of the same rating, and tuck your extra wires away neatly.

2 out of 5 eggsGood little PSU but issues with noise

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nice and compact. Works well.

Cons: Number of issues with the noise. While the fan is reasonably quiet, it whines at times. There is also some issue in my unit where it sounds like something is bouncing off the fan. It makes this annoying clicking noise.

Other Thoughts: Would be great if Silverstone had better quality control. I have QA issues on an FT03 as well.

I'm told I can ship it back to claim warranty but I can't use a computer without a PSU... They don't offer advanced warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet Power for Small Cases

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The Silverstone ST45SF packs the power needed for a gaming Mini-ITX build while remaining efficient, quiet, and reliable. The fan inside the PSU has always remained whisper quiet even when pushed to it's upper limits.

Silverstone provided long enough power leads to allow for connectivity of components on the other side of a Mini-ITX case. The ST45SF fits perfectly inside of the Silverstone FT03 Mini without having to sacrifice precious space otherwise used for a video card. The 80% plus power efficiency is icing on the cake!

Cons: This isn't a modular power supply. That being said, the modular variation of this power supply caused clearance issues inside of the Silverstone FT03 Mini case. The extra power connections were easy enough to bundle up and neatly tuck out of site.

Other Thoughts: Over the course of a year and a half, I've put this power supply through some serious gaming binges and it has withstood the abuse. It has powered two different generations of Nvidia graphics cards without any problems.

4 out of 5 eggsCurrently most powerful SFX PSU

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It is the most powerful PSU that you can get in it's size currently, and if you want to run basically any GPU out there, you are going to need minimum 450w PSU, so if you are building, say, a gaming mini ITX sized computer, this is pretty much your only option if you want everything to actually get optimal power

it is indeed a very finely crafted PSU as I would expect from silverstone sturdy, and nice to look at in case it isn't possible to completely hide

Cons: no cons, it only has few connectors, but at 450w it is the exact right amount

Other Thoughts: The silverstone 600w SFX PSU has actually already been announced, however it is still not ready...

to put things into perspective, Nvidia's recommended minimum wattage for the crazy high-end Titan series graphics cards, just happens to be 600, and that INCLUDES everything else your system will be using

once these things hit the shelves, beastly mini gaming computers will be quite popular I think.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent PSU

This review is from: SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The small size of this unit is especially great for Mini ITX cases, but even for larger cases, if your parts don't require too much power, this is an excellent option.

I am able to run a respectable gaming setup on this PSU consisting of a Radeon 6850, AMD A10-5700, 16 gigs of ram, and an SSD.

Cons: If you are putting together a powerful machine, you'll need to know the power draw of each part, especially the video card.

The PSU is not modular, so it might be tough to manage the extra cables, especially in a small case.

Standard ATX 450 watt PSUs tend to cost less than this SFX model.
