1 out of 5 eggsSilverstone PSU high failure rate

Pros: - pretty on the outside

Cons: - everything else if you consider most of these units fail to deliver their rated power and self destruct in the process

Other Thoughts: I am a contractor in the tech business and have seen first hand many of the the lowest of the low. Silverstone PSUs iare very unique in many ways but can be simply put as one of the very few companies consistently producing "high end" products of very low quality. Out of a batch of say 100 assorted Silverstone PSUs, about 40 to 50 will not make their warranty period if used for more than 8 hours a day and I have never seen 1 last more than a year if used over 90% rated power everyday for an average of 4 hours a day. One have to think why would you get a unit with full modular cabling $20 cheaper than competitors with only semi-modular cables with everything else being equal? And why is Silverstone never as popular as the other top dogs? Spend the extra $15 to $20 can save you a lot of trouble and money in the long run.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for providing your feedback, however your description simply cannot be true. If our power supply failure rate is as high as you stated, there is no way we can be in business for more than a couple of years. We also have much smaller marketing and advertising budget so we are able to pass on the savings to our customers with competitive pricings.

Our PSU are high quality units that are designed to operate 24/7 at their rated output and reputable, high-end computer manufacturers regularly uses SilverStone PSUs as well. If you personally have used SilverStone PSUs and have trouble with them, we are more than happy to help you resolve them whether they are compatibility issues or defects. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: I've had this PSU for about a year and it's been running great. Have tried SLI for a few days and it worked without any issues.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsAt your own risk

Pros: The quality of finish is very good and, the people I have dealt with at Silverstone have been fairly responsive and the active power facter correction works.

Cons: I have had three fail on me with the same problem, a voltage drop across the 12 volt rail under load causes the power supply to shut down eventually to the point where the power supply will no longer function, I am giving up on this one and do what I should have done in the first place and buy a Corsair AX1200

Other Thoughts: I like Silverstone products, it's just that power supplies may nor be their forte, for the number of failures, lost time and wages I can barely give it an egg.

1 out of 5 eggsService, service, service

Pros: This item gets high marks for quality, finish, and performance. I think it's an excellent power supply.

Cons: my unit came without a cable to go to the cpu connector. The pin arrangements would not allow connection to my
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA . I contacted Silverstone by email and was answered fairly quickly. Unfortunately the person who wrote back said that he used a cable on one of the power supplies and it fit on 3 or 4 motherboards he had lying around, thereby implying I was idiot. I actually had to splice together two of the supplied cables just to get one that would fit. It is not acceptable that a $200+ power supply would not have a cable that my $350 motherboard required. It seems to me that the thing to do would be to simply send me the correct cable! But they didn't even suggest this.

Other Thoughts: Service is important - when I buy a top of the line type product, I do expect decent service.

2 out of 5 eggsGood for a few weeks.

Pros: It's pretty small in size, the finish is nice, modular, good ventilation.

Cons: A capacitor exploded within 10 days of purchase. I didn't notice in the product description that it says "Japanese main capacitors", I later found that it also has Chinese made capacitors inside after some research.

Other Thoughts: I shut my system off immediately and removed the PSU. It made me question SilverStone's quality. I will not be purchasing their power supplies anymore, I've owned 3-4 SilverStone power supplies in the past and my expectations for this 1000w were high and I was disappointed. This will not change my mind on their cases, I have a FT02.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed product, fake RMA?

Pros: Awesome PSU while it worked. Good amount of cables at just the right lengths to use in large mid-tower to full tower cases. Silent, quality fan that kept PSU sufficiently cooled.

Cons: No power button.

Unit died after ~ 1 month of use(literally the day after NewEgg RMA period expired). It now makes an odd zapping noise when I plug it in. Attempted to apply for RMA multiple times and company is completely nonresponsive. Waste of money since customer service can't match the product.

Other Thoughts: If you google SilverStone RMA process it seems other people have trouble with it too. It's a pity, because from the reviews I've read they make high quality, long lasting products.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone and we apologize for the trouble you've had. Please double check your spam filter to see if e-mails from our US office may have been blocked accidentally. We have a very diligent and strict RMA crew and they will be more than willing to help you get the needed replacement. If e-mails are still not working, please contact our US office directly at:

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time and money

Pros: Modular. Sufficient power for two video cards. Cables good quality.

Cons: When I first received this product everything was fine for the first few hours. I quickly learned that a few hours after the power supply was in use it starts emitting a high-pitch chirp on an irregular yet highly annoying pattern. I received a replacement from newegg only to find that the replacement emitted the same chirp all the time. It also had a lose fan and that clunked around making a new annoying sound. Silverstone's tech support is very limited and the RMA process requires printing, scanning, and emailing the form. Obviously, this means if you don't have a scanner you have to find one. They also require you to pay for the shipping of their defective product to them.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy a power supply from this company only for the fact that I don't want to spend another month and a half without a computer because my power supply in being shipped for replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Power Supply.

Pros: Quiet, Supplies clean and efficient voltage and has high amperage rating. PCI-E Leads include 2200uF capacitors which is nice.

Cons: I found this cheaper and bought it around the time it first came out on another site.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and Powerful

Pros: Very quiet, I cannot hear it at all. Venting to the bottom of the case, I do not notice any temperature increase within the case. Completely modular. Cables are extremely long and fit well within a Cooler Master RC 942 tower

Cons: Not enough Molex power connections or extensions. Only 8 SATA connections.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Silverstone PSU. My first Strider Gold series. The Strider Gold is a better PSU and worth the extra money.

5 out of 5 eggsEmbodiment of all you should look for in a PSU

Pros: To my experience, one of the best power supplies on the market. Always look to overbuy on the power supply, it's the beating heart of your system. Skimp on it, and the system won't last.

Things you should look for in a PSU: Active PFC, single +12V rail, providing most if not all the rated power, continuous power rating, (instead of a peak power rating) Japanese capacitors, and some kind of 80 Plus certification, if you're into saving money on your electricity bill and the longevity of your power supply.

Things this power supply provides: All of it, and a Gold 80 Plus certification to boot.

On top of the flawless specs, it doesn't look too bad either. Some may say the lack of a power rocker switch is bad, but honestly who cares? Is it really any harder to unplug the power cable? Also this PSU runs very cool, and contributes no ambient heat since I have a bottom intake vent on my case.

Cons: I tried, but I can't find a solitary thing to ding it with.

Other Thoughts: I seriously overbought on my power supply according to my Kill-a-Watt, as at max load on the CPU/GPU simultaneously, it's only drawing ~320W from the wall, meaning even less is being used by the parts, due to the imperfect efficiency.

If you overbuy on the PSU, it'll take care of you. I won't have to buy a new PSU for my next build in all likelihood. This thing will be good for a long time. This will also allow me to upgrade my current build as much as I like as well.
